I think this streak is pretty amazing yet overhyped. I mean, even when you play mostly bad teams, showing up that many nights in a row is good. But if they had a 5 games stretch where in 4 of those games, you play the Spurs(healthy), the Hornets(healthy), the Jazz(healthy), and the Lakers(healthy), they'd more than likely still be in 7th place.
Overhyped? Why didn't the Mavs go on a 22-game win streak last year if they played mostly bad teams? The Rockets are playing the schedule and have went undefeated for almost two months. I love the hate they are getting. Does nothing but fuel them.

22 wins in a row is impressive. doesnt matter if they were playing the ft worth flyers but it doesnt mean they are the favorites or anything. and they would still be a signifigant underdog if they played dallas in a series.

It's funny that out of all i said that you quoted, the only thing you heard was overhyped. Earth to GuerillaBlack: your team is not perfect. They're only up 2 and a half over the 7th seed, which they were like a week or two ago.

Honestly, how far do you see this team going?

I totally agree. The Rockets are going to lose 3 of the next 4 at least.

But the Lakers need to pick up every loss they can to land behind the Mavs, because they have quite a few gimmes left on the schedule.

Hey GuerillaBlack did you notice how Battier made Kobe take every single jumpshot blind? He didn't get free once!
Every time he had the closed hand of Battier one inch max in front of his face. It was awesome to see how Kobe could do nothing about it.

And on the last shot when Battier was picked up by a screen he still caught up to Kobe and blocked it in his face! I was worried Kobe would start to cry after the 33rd shot. It was my favourite Kobe game ever.

That is absolutely nuts. They now have 165 points.. and this is in a game w/o overtime. I believe the most points ever scored in a game was by the Pistons in the 80's, they scored 186 points. That was in TRIPLE OVERTIME. If there was a triple overtime here, the Nuggets would reach 200 points easy. They're just 21 points point from the most points scored over, and thats with 15 less minutes than the Pistons did it in.

They end up with 168 points. 44 assists, 61 field goals made, 16 3 point field goals made... absolutely insane.

Final score 168-116!

They were pretty close to the NBA record of a 68 point margin of victory as well. Would like to have seen that game in its entirety. Looks like Seattle is looking for a few more lottery balls.

It's all thanks to Eddie Najera going off early, that gave everyone else room to shoot.

I believe they also beat our halftime score record in the shotclock era..... we had 83 vs sacramento, they had 84.

That is one of the most insane scores ever.

The record for most points in a half was 107 by Phoenix Suns against Denver in 1990.

That game finished 173-143.
http://www.basketball-reference.com/...011100PHO.html

Today's game featured 84 points in each half for Denver.

Well, ya, you're right. I remember steve nash scoring the 82nd and 83rd points for the Mavs, and the announcer saying that was a record........ but I think it was a playoff record. This was against sacramento. I am pretty sure it was game 2 of that 7 game series we won.

Any of the top 8 teams having one bad week, and the Nuggets would be in. In fact, after this game, Hollinger is giving 'em a 53% chance to get in the playoffs.

Nuggets have a five game road trip (Pistons, 76ers, Nets, Raptors, Grizzlies) and then two at home. One against the Mavs and the second against the Warriors. They also have two games against the Suns and a road game at the Jazz. Hollinger is nuts. But then again we knew that. I could easily see them losing two on the road trip.

That was the one interesting thing I noticed in the game. It seems like a pretty smart technique for the reasons you mentioned. I've never seen it done that way where the guy shields the opponents eyes on purpose with his hand about 3 inches from the other guy's face. I almost if Battier was going to get a Kobe "shooting elbow" considering the success it seemed to be having. Smart technique by Battier.

The Nuggets are way too talented to miss the playoffs. If they don't get in either someone will have to be fired or traded.

I can't believe they'll probably miss the playoffs while the 7th & 8th teams in the East are both under .500 for the season... Or to put it another way - the 9th-seeded Nuggets would be 2 games ahead of the Cavs for 4th place if they were in the East...

The NBA needs to fix this!

I think letting someone score 168 points on you is more indicative of yourself than the other team. Sounds like a whole bunch of give up to me.

It just shows you how tough the West is this year. We knew a team or two would miss the playoffs that were good enough to make it.

The Nuggets are way too talented to miss the playoffs. If they don't get in either someone will have to be fired or traded.
I'm honestly curious what happens to the entire west when only 1 team comes out of it. Does Phoenix implode if they lose? Is SA too old and done if they do? Houston will surely be altered. What about Utah and New Orleans the up-and-comers? Gonne be a tough job for GMs this summer. Making it out of the first round seems almost as hard as winning the championship this year.

I know this isn't going to happen, but wouldn't it be great if the Spurs just crash and burn in their last games and totally miss the playoffs. Just that would make this season semi-worth it for me

Well, we know they can beat the Mavs in a 6 game series.

Actually we know that they DID.

As of now, saying they CAN is kind of like saying Houston CAN take Dallas and Utah to a seventh game before choking it away. In reality, we know those things DID happen, but they're not really relevant to this current time.

Except to remind us that McGrady has never won a playoff series.

if I plugged my numbers in correctly, the Mavs have had the 3rd best offense in the NBA and the 4th best defense in the NBA ever since the Jason Kidd trade. best offensive games against Charlotte, Indiana, Sacramento. Best defensive games against Miami, New York, Memphis.

Worst offensive games against Lakers, Hornets, Timberwolves... worst defensive games against Houston, Utah, and Sacramento

just some tidbits

I was using efficiency formulas that are used on NBA.com's power rankings... I think it's the best statistic in determining how good a team's offense and defense is.

This year, Mavs over Warriors in 5. We fixed all the weaknesses they exploited last year.

Are you kidding...With their one lottery ball they'd get the first pick. Spurts were built on luck.

EDIT: that's not fair, I have a ton of respect for that management team.

It's just that the other 8 teams have slightly tougher schedules. Given how well the Nuggets are playing lately, and that they are only 2 games off in the loss column... it just takes 1 bad week for a team or two, and the Nuggets are in comfortably!

Anyways, I'm not saying they'll certainly make it... I was just responding to a comment that they have no chance of making it!

You just don't give Stern's Heat-lust enough credit, do you?

Spurs catch a break with Ray Allen out for Boston. The Spurs are up 10 with just over 5 minutes left in the 1st quarter.
