2010 Free Agents
I was checking the list of FA´s beside the usual Dustchip candidates. And yes, the thread comes months too early but i like checking it early and we can use this thread and list until the summer.
http://sports.espn.go.com/nba/news/s...eeAgents-09-10
I removed some players with player options that wont opt out (like Pryzbilla, Humphries etc).
Assuming we resign Haywood and Damp (32/4 and vet minimum or BAE) and that we wont need a PG i dont know exactly what i would like the most. With using the dustchip i see Cuban not spending the MLE at all. But Allen, Miller or an athletic wing like Outlaw would look nicely.
Potential Dustchip:
James
Bosh
Wade
JJ
Amare
Boozer
Lee
Gay (R, but will Memphis pay him?)
MLE (or splitted):
Mike Miller
Ray Allen
Grant Hill (P)
Jermaine O'Neal
Marcus Camby
Luis Scola (R)
Travis Outlaw
Shaqille O'Neal
Zydrunas Ilgauskas
Larry Hughes
Udonis Haslem
Raymond Felton
Tyrus Thomas (R)
Chris Duhon
Nate Robinson
Al Harrington
Ronnie Brewer (R)
Luke Ridnour
(Kelenna Azubuike) (P) - picked up PO
Anthony Morrow (R)
Marquis Daniels
Leon Powe (T)
Drew Gooden
Raja Bell
Quentin Richardson
Randy Foye (R)
Matt Barnes (P)
Shannon Brown (P)
Steve Blake
Roger Mason
Jordan Farmar (R)
Kyle Lowry (R)
Rasual Butler
Hakim Warrick
Jarvis Hayes
Derek Fisher
Earl Watson
Eddie House
Thabo Sefolosha (R)
Maurice Evans (P)
Channing Frye (P)
JJ Redick
Josh Boone (R)
Keith Bogans
Tony Allen
Will Bynum (R)
Rasho Nesterovic
Craig Smith
Jason Kapono (P)
Kyle Korver
Joel Anthony (P)
Luther Head
CJ Watson (R)
Ike Diogu
Jannero Pargo
Etan Thomas
Antoine Wright
Louis Amundson
Matt Bonner
James Singleton
Sasha Pavlovic
Rodney Carney
Damien Wilkins
Roster 2010
Kidd/Barea/Roddy (pretty sure we use Bareas 1.8 mio TO)
Butler/Terry/Stevenson/Carroll
Marion
Dirk/Najera
(Haywood/Damp)

You really think Damp gets paid only the vet minimum or the LLE?

Depends.
He will be 35 and will have surgery during the summer. I can see a desperate team throwing 1 year MLE after him, but 2 years? No...
Damp knows he was overpaid the last year, he has his house in Dallas, he has his standing inside the team. So i dont see him hunting for 3-4 million more...

all the talk of free agency. I feel like a Knick fan oh wait a minute my team still has a shot in the playoffs. If a player wants to come here we have the chips to make a good trade for the team losing him to make it happen. End of discussion.

I wish we could get back in the mix for gortat, however since that is a slim possibility I would like Camby to take time at the 4 and 5.

Let's see, Damp will be free, and possibly Avery will be coaching the Nets.
Damp gets the MLE for the nets and a 2-3 year contract, IF that happens.
Let's face it, Avery was pretty successful with Harris at PG and Damp at C. He would still need some players, but he would have the $$$ to do it as well.

Damp isnt an outright free agent... he will most likely be traded before being cut and reaching the free agent market. If he is going to sign anywhere for that cheap, it will be with the Mavericks. Dampier no longer has interest in playing 20+ minutes a game.

Since when was Dampier ever interested in playing 20+ minutes?

It would be nice but my guess is he will be in Chicago or Miami next year.
I would love to have Amare here as a 5 and have Haywood backing him up, and Amare would back up Dirk at the 4 that would be some kind of sweet

Interesting bit, found it on a warriors forum, still have not tracked down a link.

Could Cuban (or Dolan) offer LeBron his own TV show as added incentive? Even for free, a weekly LeBron show on HD Net would be pretty big incentive wouldn't it?

I think they could do something like that as long as he's not compensated for it. But Dallas is a player for LeBron. It would have to be via sign-and-trade, but i know he's interested in playing for Cuban.

There is also a quote that James isnt done in Cleveland until the Cavs got a ring, so lets see.
S&T for Butler and Stevenson and the Cavs could be even still play in the playoffs, they cant rebuild for the next 2-3 years anyway. HDNet show for James and at least 5 games a year in Cowboys stadium.
Mo
Parker/West
Butler
Jamison/Hickson
Tingeltangel
Then convince JJ, so he tells the Hawks its either Knicks or S&T Dallas. Damp, pick, $.
Kidd/Roddy
JJ/Terry
James/Marion
Dirk/Marion
Haywood/Damp vet minimum
lol

We need to start writing letters to D Wade saying that he could be on a contender, making max money with Dallas.. Cause if DWade wanted to come here, there isnt much the Heat could do to stop it from happening (besides just letting him walk without any return). We have the best assets in the league for a S&T.
Dallas is DWade's (any player's) best option.. except Ive heard of Bosh S&T for Joakim Noah rumors lately. That would also have to be really enticing for Wade playing in Chicago with Rose and Bosh.

The original poster said he didn't think Cuban would use the MLE. I was wondering why he would suspect this? Would be very surprised if Cuban didn't take the exception and tax hit to bolster the roster and allow for trade flexibility. Our number one priority will and should be to resign Haywood. Najera and Dampier will probably both be used in a trade and shipped out, so I wouldn't be surprised to see us target a player to take up minutes at the 5 again. Also, does resigning Haywood dip into our exception? and could we trade our exception to a team like say Orlando for Gortat?

Not using the MLE IF we can use the Dustchip + filler (like Deshawn) for a max or near max contract like Bosh/JJ etc.
Dirk 21
Sammy Superstar ~17
Terry 10.5
Butler 10.5
Kidd 8.5
Marion 7.5
Haywood ~7
MC 4
Najera 3
Roddy 1
Thats in Sammy Superstar case and resigned Haywood 90 Mio and a pretty much deep and great roster and not really need to throw the MLE at someone

I hear Minnesota wants to ship Al Jefferson and keep Love and Milicic. Anyone else think he would be perfect to eat up minutes at the 4/5 and be the post presence and effective rebounder, especially offensively, we desperately need? Still need the wing player as Caron doesn't look like the level #2 scorer we need, but I also expect to see the MLE thrown out.

The only bad thing with Jefferson is that he doesn't defend well. I don't think it's a lack of effort, but he just isn't talented on that end of the floor. Combining him with Dirk would put a ton of pressure defensively on our wings.

They would ship him out because he and Love doesnt work together well on the floor...
Sure you could buy him low but i think resigning Haywood would be better for our whole team.
Just hope they dont ship him cheap to a contender.

Resigning haywood is the number one priority, but that wouldnt prevent us from getting Jefferson.

I'd say we have been needing a 2 guard forever. Wade is second on the list if we can lure Lebron here. I would also love to see amare in a mavs uniform . All the nice passes kidd could dish to him and his inside presence would be monster .

If we could get wad, james, Amare.... any of these guys, that would be awesome and combining Kidd Dirk Butler and TBD of these max contract guys on the same floor is a big deal!
I doubt that hapens though, especially if we are trying to grab Bosh or Amare, we can't sign Haywood and DDamp and then get one of these guys too..

James with a horrible series and horrible games. I think right now (4th quarter) you actually see the fear in his eyes.
He will get blasted with critics that he still won nothing. I think our chances got much better with that series. James need to win a ring soon. Clevelands roster doesnt have a perspective to beat the Lakers or Magic. Same with Knicks, even with Bosh or Amare there, too many holes. Nets look better but huge questionsmarks...
If James want the ring as soon as possible, its Dallas..

I think the best shot have the Nets.
They have 27mio cap so they could offer Lee or Boozer 10mio a year. And a Top3, maybe John Wall.
Harris
Lee (Wall?)
James
Lee or Boozer
Lopez
Draftpick, Yi, Williams, Mavs pick, plenty to work with

Can a mod please move this thread to the general Mavs section?
Brewer will be UFA, Grizzlies with another bonehead move. Depending how many of our SG/SF we trade away i would like to pick him up.
