yeah pavel is terrible. considering powell and marshall actually started some games last year, does that mean pops has a chance? He looks a LOT more polished than marshall.

totally unfair to guage Pavel off a highlight reel type video...he will never be a highlight guy...

Pops can dunk! The Mavs should put him on the team just so that he could be in the slam dunk competition. If the summerleague highlights are any indication, he looks to be an upgrade over Powell for a developing 3-4.

Also, some of Marshall's highlights were quite impressive. I know the Mavs don't have much room on their roster, but if the Pacers don't retain the guy, I wouldn't mind seeing him developing on the Mavs for another year.

He's a young man with upside who is already familiar with Avery's system. I think he would be a nice player to have in case of injury.

Pops is a keeper - Pavel is trash - Marshall is at the bottom of the food chain - Ager looks sharp - the rest are trash.

After finally getting a chance to see what Pops can do..we HAVE to sign this kid. He is everywhere defensively and he is definitely NBA Dunk competition worthy.

Pavel can't defend. Looks slow and weak. I thought he had potential to be the next Shawn Bradley. Well, he kinda looks like it. All of Bradleys downside. LOL
Pops is, umm what can I say? We could need him. Sign him already! GDI!

As soon as the clip starts you'll see Ager dunking on a Spurs forward. There are a few more Ager clips sprinkled throughout the video.

If you're making a judgement based soley on these clips then you're probably overrating Pops and underrating Pavel.

Pavel is certainly not a highlight reel waiting to happen, but I think he can materialize into a serviceable center in the future. Despite not looking terribly fantastic in summer league, he has made some HUGE strides since last year's summer league. Remember he is "only" 20 years-old and is still learning how to maneuver and operate that gigantic machine he possesses. Last year when I had the opportunity to watch him in person it appeared as though he couldn't even get an inch off of the ground. Now, it looks like he is actually getting a little air under his feet.

The main thing with Pavel is remembering to have patience. He is a project center and if he can continue to develop his game as much as he has since last season, then he may actually be able to contribute some next season.

Imagine how much improvement he will have made by the time he is 24 or 25? He could develop into a solid contributer to this team in the future.

He will be fine, just give him some time to grow and in the meantime enjoy the great Mavericks team we "are" putting on the court.

edit: spelling

I find it interesting that you can judge effort based upon watching a handful of 2 second clips....

MQ, Pops can defend like a mo-fo. In fact, I will go so far as to say that he can defend both threes and fours with equal aplomb.

And as for Shawn, it is worth nothing that his PER in 2003 was through the roof. In fact, I'm sure it was among the best of any third or fourth man on any contending team of the last fifteen years.

Pavel put up 20 and 10 against the Kings but you wouldn't know it from watching the two minute clip of the game. I watched 3 of the Vegas games and 5 if the SLC games and overall Pavel didn't look bad. He rebounded well and used his body to get good position in the lane offensively. When they passed him the ball he converted at a decent clip. He's also a really good ft shooter and passer.

Look, I'm not trying to tell you that he's going to be the next great center in the league. But anyone who watched Yao Ming dominate the paint after toe surgery should be a little concerned. We've got the only player in the league that can physically match up with him so if he needs another year to get it together I'm willing to wait. It's not like he's not improving, the Jazz TV crew commented more than once on how much better Pavel (and DJ) looked a year later.

I think you can also see that the mavs sort of feel like their last two roster spots are like a baseball teams minor league. They try to hit on someone but if not hopefully trade them for a very solid third string point or something like that.

I think that either Pavel gets it or the mavs will trade him for something of value.

Yeah, I don't think you can judge Pavel by watching these videos. I was sour on him, but now I want to keep him. I have visions of a 25 year old 7'5" guy who's cut patrolling our paint. How awesome would it be if Pavel could transform that body?

holy crap!

the best thing about these videos is getting to see the "new" Robert Swift! all the tats in the world won't make you look like you have muscle, Robert!

the youtube links also have links on the right side of the screen to more videos against other opponents. some clips of ager shooting are in there.

the good thing about pavel in these clips is that he is actually DUNKING the ball. not trying to lay it up soft like bradley often tried to do.

Yeah I noticed that too. He brings it down harder than Ming...which is a good thing.
