RE:Mavs vs. Blazers Gameday Thread
I say trade Stackhouse for Artest when Finley comes back and sign Harvey for the rest of the year, because he's not doing us any good.
And i want to make a plea for Nelson, STOP PLAYING HENDERSON AT THE 5.

Dampier, Howard, and Dirk have double-doubles. If Daniels can get 3 more rebounds he'll join them.

RE:Mavs vs. Blazers Gameday Thread
Ya its great we are winning and with 1:40 left appear to have safely won this game but the Mavs, especially at home, need to be putting away games like this in the third quarter...yea Portland isn't a bad team and Dallas never does particularly well against them but they are certainly not a contender to come out the West...The shooting was ugly again but those free throws won the game...

RE:Mavs vs. Blazers Gameday Thread
Alright, my thoughts on the game.
That Dirk guy is pretty good. It's still amazing to think of how much he's improved himself through the years. Remember when he couldn't rebound? A true testimony to his work ethic. Now the passing problems look like they may be on the way to becoming a past problem.
Josh Howard is still a stud. I love the kid. Complete player. Getting better.
Daniels had a nice well-rounded game. Made some nice passes, got into the lane, hit the midrange shots, played solid D, did good work on the boards. I just keep thinking of how much difference it's going to make when that ankle gets better.
Dampier can sure be huge, can't he? I'm hoping that his injury has slowed him the past week when he didn't look so good because the guy is so important to this team's success. He does a great job of owning the middle. I don't think the stat line did him justice today, and it was a good stat line. If he figures out how important he is, and if he can continue to find his niche here, this team might be good.
Rough day for Devin Harris. He'll have these. Thought he looked much better in the third quarter, but he can't let bad calls and frustration affect the rest of his game.
I like Jason Terry being agressive. I don't know how a lot of people felt about getting Terry, but I didn't intend for the guy to come here with the idea of being a distributor. Frankly, I think the team suffers when he isn't being agressive, pushing the ball, and looking for his shot. He needs to just play and not overthink things. Maybe he's getting more comfortable though.
There has been another Shawn Bradley sighting. Once again, I thought he made a positive impact.
Calvin Booth has looked better since he's started getting a little more minutes. I like that jumper, but only when it falls
Henderson did his usual thing. I still would rather play him strictly as Dirk's backup.
Stack had a quiet night. I don't remember much but a few bad decisions. I think it was hard to keep him out there when Josh and Marquis were playing so well. I still think he misses Fin more than most simply because the floor isn't spread as much for him.
Anyway, the Mavs win! It sure wasn't the prettiest thing, but they found a way. I loved the work on the boards. The defense was solid. The shooting wasn't there, but they worked themselves to a win. I thought there were too many turnovers though - seemed to come in bunches for a while. Now, keep the thing rolling.

RE: Mavs vs. Blazers Gameday Thread
Dirk was dirk...
Howard did a great job tonight, matched up wiht randolph all night and really, really was strong on the board and going to the hoop.
Like daniel's in the paint, but not so much on the wings at all.
Terry was a good.
Dampier was very solid, nice strong body in there.
Stackhouse stunk it up again, really hurt the team out there.
I think we'll have to get sort of used to tight low scoring games for a while, while the offense sorts itself out. Right now it sometimes looked like a train crash out there, but the defense is much, much better.
We'll sort of have to get used to what we've been asking for and live with it. Wish we'd make more ft's however.

RE:Mavs vs. Blazers Gameday Thread
Just got back from the game, my first in-person look at the new-look Mavs. Some thoughts...
-The Blazers move the ball a LOT better than I thought they would. I mean, they don't exactly have the most selfless reputation. But they passed well to the open man even though our D really does look much better. There is just a far more noticable effort on that end of the floor this year.
-FTs kept us in it for the most part, shooting today was really ugly. Just love the way Dirk knocks his down.
-Harris had his moments (is good to see he can knock down the open jump shot) but mostly, he looked terrible. Terry doesn't have a very impressive stat line, but the offense just ran better when he was at the point.
-Dirk looked off most of the game. He worked hard for his shot. Ankle looked fine. Good hustle on boards. Ended up w/a nice line anyway.
-Howard was pretty much a stud. But you knew that.
-Very encouraged by what I saw of Damp. It feels so nice to have a real center. Again, not the greatest line, but he had a positive effect on the game.
-NVE got a nice ovation when he came in the first time. Still a lot of warm fuzzy feelings associated w/the playoffs 2 years ago. He was pretty much invisible this game.
-Way, way too many turnovers. What bothered me was what kinds of TOs they were. Very few last touch, goes out of bounds. A lot of wild, out of control passing.
Just an overall ragged, ugly game. No flow. Crappy shooting. Careless passing. But a win, so I don't really care.

RE: Mavs vs. Blazers Gameday Thread
Failed to see this game, but you say there was Wild, out of control passing? That is ENCOURAGING. Atleast they are trying to find each other's rhythm. I'd rather see a few games w/ crazy, through the lane failed passes and have it slowly get better than watch them always take the safe pass.

Damp almost had that amazing one handed slam....the place would have gone NUTS if he made that! It was nice going to a game since I hadn't been to one since March or April last season and I had only seen 3ish games on TV.

My buddy said..."there is one thing you can say about damp, when he slams it he slams it HARD". Yea that one handed slam starting from the foul line would have been a house rocker. Guy around me were talking about tearing the rim off. *chuckle*

RE:Mavs vs. Blazers Gameday Thread
A very good game for Dampier. Our defense looked a lot better this game..we were getting hands in their faces, in their passing lanes, and contesting shots. Hope we can keep that up.
Bring on the next opponent.

RE: Mavs vs. Blazers Gameday Thread
Our frontline won this game for us. I thought it was a good win, Portland is a very talented team that has won @ Miami and @ Orlando on their current road trip. We caught them hot and took care of them, good win. Good to see our frontline dominate a very good frontline in Portland.

RE: Mavs vs. Blazers Gameday Thread
Good win for the Mavs. Our offense is still struggling. We need better play out of our point guards. I'm not sure that's going to happen this year unless we make a trade.
We're making up for our poor offensive production with defense intensity and rebounding. The guards and swingmen are doing an excellent job of swarming to the ball and creating turnovers. Dirk and Howard are going to be monsters on the board all year long. If we can get production out of Dampier like we saw yesterday, we'll have a chance to get a high seed in the playoffs. I thought Dampier played his first good half of basketball in almost a month. I'm still not convinced he can do it consistently, and I'm still not convinced that even when he plays as good as he can, it will be enough. His presence was huge in the first half and we still were outscored while he was in the game, if I'm not mistaken. I think the offense works much better when he's not clogging up the middle, and I think the defense has looked far better in the zone.
I didn't think Portland came to play.

RE: Mavs vs. Blazers Gameday Thread
I agree that we need better play out of our PGs, but I don't think trading for a new one is the answer. The more experienced PG should be playing a majority now if we want the best play possible out of our PGs, however Harris may bloom later in the season if he keeps gettin the start. Just out of curiosity, who would you trade for (PG wise)?
