Nice little write-up by cooperstein. I have to agree about dirk running the distance to save that ball. Lot's of heart on this team.

Quote:
One of the best qualities that this Mavs team has is its ability to take a bad game and put it behind it immediately. The Mavs played a very poor game in Minnesota on Wednesday night and were able to bounce back in Denver Friday in a very tense and tightly played overtime thriller.

The Mavs showed their ability to perform under pressure when Dirk Nowitzki hit a basket with 8.5 seconds left in regulation which should have been enough to win the game, but Carmelo negated that by hitting a three-pointer at the horn to force overtime. I’m sure there were a lot of people who were thinking back to May 20 when Steve Nash did the same thing in game 6 of the Western Conference Semifinals.

Then when Anthony scored the first basket of overtime it seemed the Mavs might be in trouble, but again they would not let that get them down. Dirk Nowitzki had a superb game, his 13th double-double of the season with 27 points, 10 rebounds 5 assists and a career-high 7 blocked shots. The hustle he showed late in the game running the ball down the backcourt to give the Mavs an extra possession shows that he is more than just a numbers guy. There is an intangible part of his game that has really grown. And Jerry Stackhouse made a similar play even later in the final minutes of the fourth quarter that showed that again.

Jason Terry had 27 points as well, and 17 of them came in the second quarter when just about everybody else was struggling to score. He kept them going and allowed Dallas at one point to build a 7 point lead. Josh Howard had a terrific game and has bounced back extremely well from a period of five games in which he shot 32.5% from the floor. In his last four he has shot better than 60% and it was his two passes in overtime, one to Dirk that gave the Mavs a three-point lead and one to Devin Harris on what proved to be the game-winning basket. These were the two biggest passes of the game.

The Mavs are now 12-5 on the road, and that ties them with the Pistons with the most road wins in the NBA. Now they come home on Saturday to play a Timberwolves team that beat them up Wednesday night and have very little time to turn around and do it. Even though the game is at home it may feel a little like a road game, but with the Mavs playing so well on the road maybe that is not such a bad thing. Sleep fast everyone and enjoy tonight’s game at American Airlines Center.

dude- thanks for getting us back on track.

That effort by Dirk to track down the ball was simply impressive. He really sold out on that play.

Interesting quote by eddie on Dirk...

Before, (Re: Dirk) he was an offensive presence, now he plays good defense and that shows his maturity.

Wish we could get Barkley to see it Eddie's way

Also, Miller's quote was very defensive, saying devin getting open wasn't a breakdown and pointing out he purposely missed the 2nd ft...like we didnt know that.
