GDT: game 2 - Mavs (1-0) at Pelicans (0-1) 7:00pm ESPN
Mavs visit the Pels for game 2 and their first away game of the season.
Mavs struggled a bit in their first game as the team adjusts to 2-3 new starters. Mavs now face the new-look Pelicans without their #1 overall pick, Zion.
Mavs have been really bad on the road the last three seasons going 9-32, 9-32, going 12-29 and will now face their first road game of the season. Mavs will try to turn that around and also get their first 2-0 start since the 2004-2005 season
Mavs also facing their first nationally televised game of the season, which they historically don't do well in. Mavs were 1-8 last year on ESPN/ABC last season, including a loss in New Orleans.
INJURIES
MAVS
Powell - out tonight but day-to-day with hamstring
PELS
Zion - out 6-8 weeks with miniscus tear
Miller - out with achilles tear

The words "Dallas Mavericks" were 1-8 on ESPN/ABC last year -- this is a different team.

Anyone needing a stream should go to nba4free.com. They started up after reddit banned /r/nbastreams and have great quality feeds with no pop up ads.

Very zen.
Still, the Mavericks have a long and storied history of stepping into that same poop stream multiple times. Mavs havent been good in regular-season nationally televised games for a long time.

DFS needs to hit those FTs.

You should be benched for the game if you miss two FTs in a row. NO excuse for that.

WTF starting Lee and DFS together? I guess Rick can tinker early, but that's pretty dumb.

I'd like to see a bit of zone for a change up at this point. Mavs are getting killed in man.
Edit: Didn't like the starting lineup one bit. Lee and DFS? WTH?

I'm no defensive guru but it might behoove us to maybe not give up a layup every play.

Why is Hardaway even guarding Okafor? Coaching gets a big fat F so far.
Jackson needs to be starting every game.

If we had the same refs as last game I’m pretty sure NOLA would have had about 5 travel calls by now.

No one should be surprised at this. Were not very good past two guys. And Rick having Seth be the 9th guy on this roster is dumb as shit.

mavs really need Wright to step up and help with facilitating. If not, put Brunson back in there.

Meddling with starting lineups this drastically is actually going to hurt chemistry...not help it.
I'd rather see a consistent starting lineup and THEN you can tinker a bit. But none of these guys are used to playing with each other. And playing Lee at any point is just stupid.

Yeah, I don't get the drastic change. RC needs to quit overthinking things and put his best guys out there and make the other team adjust to us.

That was the easiest 40 spot I've ever seen someone put up. Looked like a pregame layup drill.

Starting unit was a miscalculation by Carlisle tonight. We can't handle the size of the Pels. But they're also playing great ball so far, would be a joy to watch if it wasn't against the Mavs.

It reeks of flawed analytics. "Hey, Lee has a killer plus/minus when defending this guy. Let's go with it!" Ugh...

Except I've seen players miss more shots in layup drills than NO missed in that first quarter. SMH

Stick Boban in at center with Porzingis, play a zone, and that'll stop this layup drill shit real fast.

The worst part is our best player so far, KP, won't be put back because of minutes restrictions. That will be under severe scrutiny if the team starts losing.

What's funny is three players with big questions marks, Wright, THJ, and Jackson have done nothing but play hard since preseason.

Yeah, there is a noticeable, gaping hole when KP is not on the court.
