Loe with the CG shut out
With the day off, and the rain, the bullpen is now at full strength. Lets hope we don't need it

Yeah, I'm pretty sure he does. It's definitely not based on simply pitching 9 innings, because if you pitch 9 innings and the game goes into extras, you don't get a CG.

i was listening to them talking about no-hitters before the game rained out. i had no idea you had to also win the game in order to earn a no-hitter. apparently there was a pitcher many years ago who threw a no-hitter, but lost 4-0 because of a bunch of errors. poor guy.

Melton Andrew "Andy" Hawkins (born January 21, 1960 in Waco, Texas) is a former major-league pitcher. A right-handed starter, Hawkins spent most of his career with the San Diego Padres, and also played for the New York Yankees and briefly for the Oakland Athletics.

In 1990, Hawkins pitched a no-hitter for the Yankees against the Chicago White Sox at Comiskey Park and lost the game. He was the first Yankees pitcher to lose a no-hitter. The 4-0 loss was also the biggest margin of a no-hitter loss in the 20th century. Several years later, the Elias Sports Bureau, the official keeper of statistics for Major League Baseball, changed the definition of a no-hitter so that Hawkins' game was no longer classified as a no-hitter. The precise change required that a pitcher throw nine full innings to be credited with a no-hitter. Since Hawkins played for the visiting team in the game in question, the White Sox never batted in the ninth inning, meaning that although he pitched a complete game, he did not pitch nine innings.

Hawk was a Baylor Bear and a darned good one.

If I recall correctly he is a pitching coach in the Rangers system now.

Thanks for the answer guys.

Default Shouse traded

Notes: Rangers deal Shouse
Lefty sent to Milwaukee for infielder
By T.R. Sullivan / MLB.com

BOSTON -- The Rangers have found a taker for left-handed pitcher Brian Shouse, trading him to the Milwaukee Brewers on Saturday for Minor League infielder Enrique Cruz and a player to be named later. Shouse, the Rangers' top left-handed setup reliever from 2003-05, had a 4.15 ERA in six appearances before going on the disabled list April 15 with a strained left calf. He was designated for assignment on Monday. Shouse is from Illinois and general manager Jon Daniels said, "This is a good opportunity for Brian. For what he has done for us, we were glad to put him in a position where he can flourish with a contending club and be close to his home in the Midwest. Hopefully this is a win-win for everybody."

Cruz is a shortstop who was playing at Triple-A Nashville and hitting .261 with five doubles, one home run and 10 RBIs over 24 games. He can play second and third as well. "We can move him around," Daniels said. "He's versatile with good hands, a plus arm, a good defender [and someone] who puts the ball in play." Because Joaquin Arias is playing shortstop at Triple-A Oklahoma, Cruz is being assigned to Double-A Frisco. The Brewers originally acquired Cruz from the New York Mets in the 2002 Rule 5 Draft, and he spent the entire 2003 season with them as a backup infielder. In 60 games, he was 6-for-71 (.085) with four walks and 30 strikeouts. He spent the 2005 season at Double-A and finished the season ranked second in games played (137) and hits (149), third in doubles (34) and total bases (231) and seventh in batting average (.300) among Southern League leaders.

With Shouse gone, the Rangers are going with C.J. Wilson and Ron Mahay as their left-handed relievers at the Major League level, with Erasmo Ramirez, Kevin Walker and John Rheinecker also possibilities if needed at Triple-A.

It got overlooked because of the *ahem* other sporting event tonight, but the Rangers beat the hated Yankess 4-2.

Can we get Dallas Cowboys to beat Washington, and the Stars to beat Detroit along with these two wins, all in the same night ? ?

That is the only way I could see it getting any better.

Yeah, that ruling was a shit ruling if you ask me.
I always enjoyed watching Hawkins pitch when he was a Padre..

i'm sure it doesn't seem like much now, but the cavs beat the pistons too. in the long run this could help us if we manage to get to the finals <crosses fingers>, we'll most likely be playing them.

Nope.

You can lose a no hitter, you just have to pitch 9 innings.

On April 23, 1964, Ken Johnson of the Houston Colt .45's (they became the Houston Astros the next season) became the only pitcher to lose a complete game no-hitter in nine innings when he was beaten 1-0 by Cincinnati.

The example you gave the guy only pitched 8 innings. You have to have 9.

SUCKS. Worst part is, of course, it's the stupid Yankees & we blew a huge lead. But also, I have both Rivera AND Otsuka on my fantasy team. Uber-ouch.

awesome, rangers finally win today. i suppose a split with the yanks aren't bad, even though we should have won that high scoring game the other day.

Didn't a Pirates guy pitch like a 14 inning perfect game, only to have it spoiled on an error way back when?

I think he ended up pitching a 14 inning no hitter but still got the L.

Yeah, that's what I was talking about, just couldn't remember the name. Thanks for the link.

i'm sure nobody is watching this game, but the rangers just came from behind to beat the angels. kam loe got a win after throwing 7 quality innings. coco came in the 8th to throw some good heat. otsuka for the 9th to close it out. game ended on a nice dp turned by otsuka. hopefully this won't be the only team winning tonight.
