I give up!
As soon as I have the money together I am moving out of this country.
Who needs a balanced budget?
I don't know where I will go, but this is beyond the pale. I can't say I am proud to be an American anymore.
Anyone else feel like the American experiment is over?

Packing a lunch is always an option...
I mean, do you really need a governing body to dictate what does & doesn't count as a vegetable? Can't you work that out on your own?
(and honestly, I could easily list 1000 things that Congress is doing worse - how did "pizza sauce" become the straw that breaks the camel's back for you?)

I think you should put pizza and fruits in the lunch menu at school..... let the free market (children) decide what's best!
And it costs more to eat healthy..... now. Later down the line, when bad habits and obesity have set in, it's gonna cost a lot more to "fix it."
But why are we discussing this anyway? Who doesn't know the government is in the pockets of big corporations? (I mean besides the Fox-News-bubble residents).

One, a tomato is a fruit.
Two, instead of worrying about righting the ship all these twerps want to do is undo anything the President does. This shows me there is no limit to how far some will go to ruin the world just so they can say, "I told you so."
I mean is trying to make school lunch healthier really that socialist? When did caring about children's health become a bad thing? When did caring at all become so malligned?
I give up. No one gives a shit about you or me or any future generation, just line your pockets and to hell with the nation. Someone in the other party had a good idea? No, No, No we have to vote it down. Why? because a very small, yet vocal group want everything their way every time.
Some men just want to watch the world burn, and they all hold office.
This country is broken and it will never be fixed.

I think it begins with the very foundation of political parties. There are only two positions to take in a political argument? Really? There's a bunch of unrepresented people in this country, and a lot of over-represented corporations.

Interestingly, a tomato is botanically a fruit but legally a vegetable.

Approval rating of congress is 9%. Nearly within the margin of error for 0%.

The saddest thing is that 9% are the only ones voting.
Oh well, at least I have the NBA and my Mavs to take my mind off of things. Who starts the next Gdt?

Move where? Also, you could just pack your kids lunches. There's no law against that..
ps. this is worse of a knee jerk reaction than the march loss by the Mavs to the Lakers.

No, the saddest thing is that people can't do anything for themselves - they lean on their ridiculously irresponsible government for EVERYTHING instead of exercising a little self-accountability. If you want your children to eat right, then feed them right. You don't need government for that.
The first step in overcoming tyrannical government is taking charge of your own life - socialism is for lazy pussies who are afraid to think or act for themselves.

Generalized socialism is for lazy pussies who are afraid to think or act for themselves. But is that what we're talking about here?
They already provide food at schools, shouldn't they worry about providing the right food in schools?

When you ask for socialism, you can't bitch about the quality of socialism you get - that's like the homeless guy feeling jilted because he got $0.47 instead of a nice, crisp $5.00 bill when he deserves jack-squat...
No, the ever-raging issue with any socialist program is ALWAYS cost effectiveness. Of course they want to pinch pennies by calling tomato paste a fruit/vegetable - these are the same people who serve Grade-E meat (technically high-end dog food) in school cafeterias. Hell, the canned corn you'd get instead of tomato paste isn't any healthier... Not to mention that the most commonly-found food in a school cafeteria dumpster is most likely VEGETABLES. Just because you offer "healthier" (and more expensive) options doesn't mean the kids are going to eat it - because healthy eating begins & ends at home. It's kinda hard to justify the extra cost to taxpayers when those little butterballs are going eat McDonalds on the way home from school anyway... It just seems more sensible to pack your kid's lunch if you're concerned with what they're eating.
It's time to quit asking the government to raise your children - they suck at it.

My daughter is in fourth grade and my son in second grade. Neither one of them has ever eaten a lunch provided by their school. Packed lunch, every single day.
School districts are having a hard enough time financially as it is without forcing them to spend more on the highly discounted (and often free) lunches they provide for families that don't pack a lunch.
Making sure kids eat healthy is the role of the parent, not the school. Should they also give out tooth brushes and require brushing after every meal?
Less government is good.

That isn't why I am upset. You and I are in a position to make sure OUR children are just fine. What about the millions of children who need school lunches? I worked this summer with an outreach program for inner city kids. For many of them, the food we provided was the only meal they got all day. Many of these kids are bright, hopeful youth who deserve better. Is it their fault they drew a shitty hand when it came to parents?
I understand the logic in saying its up to the parents, and in theory it is sound. In practice, a lot of kids will suffer due to policy and thinking like this. Blah, blah, blah socialism is for pussies. Tell it to the kid who just wants a decent meal.
So you made yourself a living and are capable of providing for you and your family, so what? So many people will never have the opportunities with which we have been blessed. What are we supposed to tell them? Pull yourselves up by the bootstraps?
It's easy to act like you hit a triple, when you started on third base.
I'm not asking for socialism, just some common goddamn sense. This government has none. Congress is acting like a spoiled child that didn't get their way. "Whaaaaa the guy we supported didn't get elected". Now, like a spoiled child, they will let the entire nation suffer because they don't want to play.
In my lifetime I have never seen the country so devolved into petty bickering and outright ignorant hatred. As our economy crumbles, the fools in charge scream rhetoric instead of taking any action. If this is the way the nation is going, then say goodbye to the American dream.
Game over man, game over.

The older I get, the more I realize that you can't do anything for anyone but yourself (although I'm just a pitcher praying for a bunt, so it's not like I'm in a position to save the ballgame...)
Oh, and to quote George Carlin; "it's called the American DREAM because you have to be asleep to believe it!" - people are much better behaved when you tell them they can achieve ANYTHING, even though reality has proven time and time again that your options in life are usually predetermined by how wealthy and well-connected your father is... Kids with sh!tty parents tend to have sh!tty lives - there aren't any social programs that can change that reality.

Just to make things clear. Friends of our familiy, Herman and Marlies, used to live just behind iron curtain on the western side in the middle for the Fulda gap, the projected point of i breaktrough for the soviet russian red army. And they told us that they heard shots every night. That´s socialism. When dudes want to tell you that healthy schoolfood or public healthcare or alternative energy was socialism, they have no clue what they are talking about...
Come on guys. America has no money ? Ridiculous.

When a party (democrats) have not offered a budget in 1000 days, I find it difficult to listen to someone rail about the other party undoing what Barry is doing. Barry has had an Amex card with no limit for two years and has done nothing with it but play politics and pay off his supporters.
It's a good thing someone is at least trying to slow down this train wreck, but you wouldn't know it from the lefty rhetoric. We've seen the budget grow faster under this group of yahoos faster than I can ever recall, and yet to cut ANYTHING is now somehow draconian and a terroristic act. And I mean ANYTHING, unless it gets more tax dollars in the coffers.
The democrat party has completely lost its mind, the us economy and populace are just holding their collective breaths until this unbelievably, incompetent, ( but great politician ) is thrown out on his ass so he can begin collecting speaker exorbitant speaker fees. Please hurry.

Good stuff GD, but a couple of points....
US Style Socialism is not the socialism of daddy's boot, but rather that of mommy's incessant nagging. She greets you at the door with a big ole smile, and then nags the ever-living shit out of you about every last little thing for the rest of eternity. She won't shut the fuck up....ever. She makes you miserable and then gives you happy pills (research subsidized by your tax dollars).
You can be a full grown-ass man, but the question of whether you need to put a seatbelt on while driving 12 miles per hour is not yours to answer. Want to flush your shit down the toilet? Don't be surprised to know that Mommy governs that too. There is no issue so trivial in your life that she won't intervene. Everything which is not prohibited is mandated.
oh mother
Quote:
Hush now baby, baby don't you cry
Mama's gonna make all of your
Nightmares come true
Mama's gonna put all of her fears into you
Mama's gonna keep you right here
Under her wing
she won't let you fly but she might let you sing
Mama will keep baby cosy and warm
Ooooh Babe Ooooh Babe Ooooh Babe
Of course Mama's gonna help build the wall
|
And yeah....America has no money. We're borrowed to the hilt, and our entire economic engine is built upon the ability to continue borrowing. The spending going on right now....it's like someone who knows they're never going to payoff their credit cards, so they just max out that last one...
