The Mavs are a .500 team!
Mavericks Franchise W-L record
Pre-Dirk (1980-1998): 585-891 (.396)
Dirk Era (1998-2010): 640-334 (.657)
Total (1980-2010): 1225-1225 (.500)
The Mavs first fell below .500 on October 15, 1980 when they lost in Denver 133-98, putting them at a 1-2 record. They hadn't gotten back to .500 until tonight.

When you consider how great of a decade it's taken to get us back to .500, it really puts it into perspective how bad the 90's were.

Edit: My bad. It was close after that run in the 80's, but they didn't quite get there.

That was my third birthday.
30 years later and we're finally out of the cellar - a win against the Jazz puts us over the hump!

This is actually some pretty cool news!!! I was 12 years old the last time the Mavs were a .500 Organization...it's been a long and frustrating 30 years, but never the less, it's great to be at this point.
Now it's time to see this organization stay the course and win it all!!! Even with my own conspiracy beliefs...all I want is to see the Mavs hoist a Championship Trophy...it's all or nothing.
Amazing how expectations have changed...that's a good thing, it means that this team is a perennial winner.

I was tracking this since six games back. Told Fish & DB.com about it & Caplan from espndallas, just surprised it wasn't mentioned at all on espndallas or somewhere other than db.com, like the OP said, it's a cool little snippet.

Hm, 1980. That was 4 years before the Rocket-man started flying around at the Olympic games 1984. Whitney Houston sang the official song.
The Thread is officially jinxed.

Why does wikipedia say the record is 1223-1226? Which one is right?

The people editing that wiki page can't add, because all those numbers = 1225-1225.
HOWEVER, I don't consider us at .500 until we make up all the playoff games too. And we are still 14 games under .500 with playoffs included.

It was a weird callback but it actually does make sense if you've been around long enough or have read the right old threads.

So do we qualify for playoff contention?

Great fact to know. I just hope we never go below .500 again after this season is over.
