I'm sort of saddened by this. I hope he can find another person who isn't a sitting judge, I'd like to see the court have some more common folk on it. Thomas Sowell comes to mind.

Today is a great day for democracy and for conservatism. Getting a true constitutionalist justice will be a boon for this country for years. We can thank he right wing media for this one. David Frum, Krauthammer, George Will, and dozens of others.

IMHO the Miers nomination made little sense when it was offered. However, at least she is an attorney, it would be a mistake of epic proportions to nominate anybody who is not legally trained.
Sowell makes a better nominee for the Fed than he does for a Judgeship. He's an economist by education. A seat on the Supreme Court is not a position for on-the-job training. |

First of all, Thomas Sowell is an economist, not a lawyer or trained in the law. That would be a rather unprecedented move.
Second of all, Thomas Sowell common folk? I'm not saying he's snooty but he's the farthest thing from common folk. A well published author and respected economic mind. He's among the conservative elite, hardly 'just folks'. |
