Default Coach Auerbach Hospitalized

Celtics legend Auerbach hospitalized
Associated Press

BOSTON -- Boston Celtics president Red Auerbach has been hospitalized in Washington with an undisclosed problem.

The 87-year-old coaching great has been in and out of the hospital the past month for tests and a successful surgical procedure, Celtics spokesman Jeff Twiss said Thursday. Twiss would not identify the procedure and said Auerbach was readmitted for an unspecified problem within the last 10 days.

He would not disclose the name of the hospital and said Auerbach's family requested that no information be released about his condition.

Auerbach has had recent health problems before his latest hospitalization. In June, he was not feeling well enough to attend the Celtics' annual draft party in Waltham. The next month, he was unable to attend his weeklong summer basketball camp, which has been in operation for more than four decades. This year, it was held at the University of New Hampshire.

This year would be Auerbach's 56th with the Celtics. He joined the organization in 1950 when he became the franchise's third head coach. He also has served as general manager, president and vice chairman of the board.

He retired from coaching in 1966 after winning nine NBA titles with the Celtics. He once held the record for most wins as an NBA coach but has since been overtaken by Lenny Wilkens.

Realgm had a piece saying he died that was pulled in the period of 2-3 minutes. Anyone else see that?

BTW RealGM also just added "A high ranking source in the organization has refuted the report." when talking about the Pierce deal.

Auerbach's Health Improves
link
ESPN - Boston Celtics patriarch Red Auerbach returned to his home on Friday as his health continues to improve, The Boston Herald reported Monday.

"I still can't walk by myself yet," Auerbach told the paper. "I have to walk with a walker. But I'll get there."

The 88-year-old coaching great has been in and out of the hospital over the past month for tests and a successful surgical procedure. As recently as last month, he was in intensive care for an unspecified ailment.

"The coach is doing very well, and we're all extremely happy," Celtics public relations man Jeff Twiss told the paper. "I've been keeping in touch with the coach and letting him know how things are going with the team."

great news. It also points out how bad RealGM's sources sometimes are. Wrong on Pierce, wrong on Auerbach dying (although they did take back the Auerbach story)
