7 players scored double digits tonight (and quite efficiently, I might add) - Dirk (23 on 9-15), Peja (18 on 7-9), Marion (16 on 6-9), Barea (13 on 5-8), Terry (13 on 4-9), Haywood (12 on 4-7) and Roddy (10 on 4-6)... We shot 58% tonight as a team (10-20 from beyond the arc).

Chandler with 10 rebounds, Haywood also with 10 rebounds (and his 2nd double-double in the last 3 games...)

Kidd with 12 assists, Barea and Terry each with 5.

Mavs win by 19 - definitely a respectable MOV against a shaken Jazz squad...

Yeah, it's a cherry schedule to work in new players acquired via trade.

@PHI might be tough, they've been playing great lately. It is a pretty easy stretch though. I'd love to avenge those losses to TOR, IND, and MEM.

This was our biggest margin of victory this season.

The Jazz have a pretty good record - I wonder how this will play out in Hollinger's rankings?

Yeah ... "easy" refers to the fact that not a single winning team is among the opponents. 76ers could make it though until we meet them. Playing Detroit and Cleveland and they are just 1 game under .500.

D-Steve with 5 minutes today and the only Mav with a negative +/- at -7. Ouch.

44 made field goals on 30 assists. That's money.

The effect Peja has on stretching a defense to the breaking point is palpable. When he's clicking from distance, there are open looks for everyone. He's just one more cog in this matchup-chaos machine.

Peja and Marion combine to form a pretty salty pairing at the 3. Their games are so different that you really have to spend time game-planning for the times they are subbed for each other. You go from a dive-cutting, defensive, athletic rebounder who can make some hay in the post to a sharpshooting 6-10, cold-blooded, offensive weapon who is an above-average passer, handles the ball well, and can hit tough, contested shots.

A healthy Peja can have a huge impact on this thing. Perhaps not quite as much as a healthy Chandler has from a defensive perspective, but he can be a difference-maker.

Haywood would be the starting center on about half of the rosters in the NBA. To have him on nights when Chandler is in foul trouble is an advantage you just cannot overlook.

And we haven't even scratched the surface with Roddy yet this season. Once he gets back into the flow, how do you defend this team? Do you play man and switch into horrible mismatches defending the pick-and-roll, or do you try to zone it up and give open looks from some of the best perimeter shooters in the history of the NBA?

This team is just too deep right now. By far, the deepest Mavs team I've ever seen.

Yup. They will probably have to hammer their next several opponents to climb above the Lakers for 6th place.

Brendan Haywood posted his second double-double of the season with 12 points and 10 boards vs. Utah on Wednesday. He’s shooting 63.2 percent (12-of-19) from the floor over his last three games, while averaging 10.3 points per game and 8.3 rebounds per game in that span. It was his second double-double in his last three games.

The home cooking is working as Dallas recorded its eighth straight victory at American Airlines Center. It marks the Mavericks’ longest home winning streak of the season.

And...I'm 4-0, boo-yah

Is it just me or has Roddy looked better as a facilitating guard than a scoring guard so far?

Sorry, I didn't make that too clear. The Lakers are a full point above the Mavs in Hollinger's rankings, so it should take a few games to overcome that one point. Not that I particularly care for the beady-eyed gnome known as John Hollinger, or his rankings, for that matter.

In RPI, a real stat I can sink my teeth into, the Mavs are 2nd behind the Spurs.

Both the Lakers and Celtics weren't in the top 10 in his final rankings last year. That's enough for me to not take them too seriously.

MMB recap

Quote:
Dirk Nowitzki scored 23 points as the Dallas Mavericks coasted to a 118-99 victory over the slumping Utah Jazz on Wednesday night, just mere hours after Utah traded away franchise point guard Deron Williams. It marked the fifth straight loss for the Jazz, fourth since Jerry Sloan left the team. The game was tied at 63 and the Mavs used a 40-22 run from the 8:12 mark of the third quarter until the 7:37 mark of the fourth quarter to take a 103-85 lead and secure the win over the Jazz. There was another Peja-Sighting as Peja Stojakovic hit four three-pointers and scored 18 points. Shawn Marion contributed 16 points off the bench for the Mavericks. It was the fourth straight win for the Mavericks. The 19-point victory over Utah marked the largest margin of victory this season. The previous high was 16 points on three other occasions.

The Mavericks continued their streaking ways as they have won 14 of their last 15 games (including 15-17). Dallas shot a season-high 58 percent from the floor while scoring 118 points. The Mavericks are now 18-3 when they shoot at least 50 percent from the floor this season. Dallas was averaging 106.0 points per game over the last 14 games on 48.8 percent shooting. The Mavs held the Jazz to 99 points on 46 percent shooting from the floor. The symmetry continued as opponents had averaged 99.4 points per game and shot 45.8 percent against the Mavericks in that 14-game span.

The Mavericks improved to 3-0 against the Jazz this season with the win at the American Airlines Center. Dallas has now won the last 16-19 match-ups at home against Utah. The home cooking is working as Dallas recorded its eighth straight victory at American Airlines Center. It marks the Mavericks’ longest home winning streak of the season.
