Thomas, you're new here. You'll soon realize most of the people here knee-jerk like crazy. After a win, we're likely to make the playoffs and with a good matchup make it to the second round. After a loss, we're the Bobcats. Don't take them seriously. Really the only good thing you can expect here is fast news and some mild entertainment from people overreacting.

After a 40 point loss what are we?

Dirk carried the Mavericks for a long time, you can't expect him to make the playoffs and win a lot. He is aging. Understand that.
And stop bashing on their defense!!! They'll get their defense back up as soon as they can! Be patient!

I wouldn't worry about it. Folks have been trying to defend plan powder so long that they are deeply invested it. You have to hope cubes is right because right now it ain't working budda'
But it appears he has thrown away competing for at least three to four years. Pathetic ownership decisions really.

It was the Spurs. The 20-8 Spurs. Healthy Spurs
20-30 from downtown. Yes, shitty defense but again: 20-30....
It was the Spurs
20-30 from downtown
Yes, horrible loss but Dirk is back. Now they have to work on the details and rotations (specially frontcourt).
I watched way too many terrible RS losses against shitty teams before 2011, getting the hopes "This year with this roster it could work to win it all" demolished over and over to freak NOW out like some guys here...
With watching i also mean getting the ass out of the bed between 1 and 4:30am in the morning for like 75% of the regular season games in the past decade...
Everybody chill and give RC the time with Dirk and this roster. At least until the trade deadline is near (ok, if they are able to steal a nice PG somewhere they should pull the trigger right now).

Fanboy shows up, decides to tell long devoted Mavs fans how they should feel after losing by 40 points to the team's most hated rival.

Only scrolled through some sequences but seems to be a good hint what to expect out of DoJo long term. In my eyes other guys with more upside are better suited with the minutes. If defenses adjust to such a one-dimensional player it gets ugly pretty fast.
Great news that Dirk is back and I'm pretty pissed I missed it.
Think the next game against the Spurs already will tell something about the teams chances of making the playoffs. I said 11-20 going into 2013 would be a neckbreaker, but 12-19 isn't that much of a difference tbh. Lakers are obviously going to make it, Portland is suddenly on a win-streak and Suns, Kings and Hornets really the only locks that won't make it.

Thy were up 46 points. 46. that's a league difference. Well, maybe not even that, any good euroleague team should feel embarrased if any NBA team would be up on them by 46 points. And we are not the Wizards, or last year Bobcats. A 20 point loss, that can happen. On a night when a great offensive team is that hot, even a 25-28-30 points loss can happen. But being down 46, and losing by 40 is inexcusable. Obviously, the Mavs not only played badly, and the Spurs were not only hot, but the whole team didn't give a s**t. They let them embarrass us. And Carlisle called them out. This team has serious chemistry problems, it's clear as day.

Can't find the original, but Dirk quote in the german media is pretty devastating:
Said the team has not enough talent and therefore everyone has to work even harder for a W. He can't see that attitude right now and they'll have to improve in so many areas.

Different than espn-quote?

"We need to keep on working," Nowitzki said. "We've got a lot of areas to improve. We might not be as talented as some teams on the top, but if we're not, you have to make it up with how you play and compete and it's just not there."

I translate the Interview he gave a German Sports Channel and Site sport1.de
"I just wanted to get a little feeling for the Game and not just standing in the way. We shot so quick, that i had problems coming off our own half."
"We were down by 80 points in the middle of the third quarter, so checking back in was useless for me"
"Its obvious, that our Defense is bad, but our decisions at the offense are horrible. The Basketball-IQ has dropped a lot, since Jason Kidd is gone.
"If your not as talented as the other team, you have to bring some intensity and thoughness but i couldnt see any of that today. It can only get better.

various notes and quotes from the game......
"In the middle of the third we were down by 80, so I didn't really have to go back in," Nowitzki said, exaggerating the Mavs' largest deficit just a bit.
"We got a (butt-kicking), that's it,"*Shawn Marion said. "No need to explain it ... it was an old-fashioned (butt-kicking)."
"We need to keep on working," Nowitzki said. "We've got a lot of areas to improve. We might not be as talented as some teams on the top, but if we're not, you have to make it up with how you play and compete and it's just not there."
Mavericks coach Rick Carlisle let official Karl Lane know he was not happy with the officiating. "Does counting fouls lose you the game? It's so lopsided, it's ridiculous." The fouls were 8-4 in favor of the Spurs at that point. The Spurs closed the game with 22 fouls compared to 18 for the Mavericks.
Dominique Jones*got his first start at point for the Mavs and went 1-for-7.
Mavs next 5 games

It doesn't seem that Carlisle has a real solid plan for this team.
He is a great coach, I just hope he doesn't lose them. He needs to be a rallying influence and I'm not sure that is really his style.

If i see Dojo one more time ON the court outside of garbage time i fly directly to Dallas and punch someone. Dirk is visually frustrated, and he has to be. Guys got to understand that they play WITH him, it's so easy.
RC needs to come up with a plan now, he is horrible this year so far.
Don't get me started on Kaman the last few games...
Like sefant said, one of those horrible night where they go 20/30 (hilarious) from downtown. I saw a lot of those games in the regular season the last few years, too. Frustrating but there is always another game! Guys needs to keep on working and we hope...

more quotes from last night's loss.....
“Our basketball IQ obviously went down with J-Kidd (leaving). That's pretty obvious.” - Dirk
“At one point we ere down 46 points. That's some bull----.” - Shawn Marion.
“I'd love to give them two days off but that ain't happening,” said Carlisle, who will have his club practicing on Christmas Eve.
“I’d like to get out of the point guard business,” Carlisle said. “I’d like for a couple of our young guys to jump up and grab the starting spot and the backup spot and have one guy in reserve. ... And I think those guys have the abilities to do it. But it just hasn’t happened yet.”
Carlisle talked about his team's “lack of competitiveness, selfishness and a lack of commitment to each other.”

And people predicted that this brand new team would be bad for the first half of the season. We're 1/3 through the season, got Dirk back for 1/2 of one game and somehow this game is proof that we are not only struggling to gel and struggling without Dirk but also a terrible, terrible team?

I admire your optimism but c'mon...40 point loss to the Spurs. Everyone gets this day to cry bloody murder.
And Dominique Jones is our starting pg.

More like a zero-dimensional player. I can't think of a single above-average skill that he brings to the table. It's mind-boggling that he's still on our roster when there are real NBA players on the market that could be contributing.

Roddy is a wuss. They would have addition by subtraction if they got rid of him right now. Pick up a man.

So he could've checked back in if we weren't down big, and he still logged in 20 minutes. I think Dirk will probably start for 30-32 mins on Thursday.

DoJo is considerably better than Roddy at this point in their careers, sad as it is to say.
