PF Alan Henderson (4.0 ppg, 3.5 rpg, 0.3 apg in 11.3 minutes)
Dallas receives: SF Keith Van Horn (16.1 ppg, 7.0 rpg, 1.7 apg in 32.5 minutes)
Change in team outlook: -1.8 ppg, -0.1 rpg, and -2.6 apg.

Milwaukee trades: SF Keith Van Horn (16.1 ppg, 7.0 rpg, 1.7 apg in 32.5 minutes)
Milwaukee receives: SF Jerry Stackhouse (13.9 ppg, 3.6 rpg, 4.0 apg in 26 games)
PF Alan Henderson (4.0 ppg, 3.5 rpg, 0.3 apg in 6 games)

Milwaukee gets a starting SF with Stack (who they really need), and a big expiring deal in Henderson. Dallas can either start Van Horn or make him the sixth man (which is what I'd do).

No. You do not want to pay that much. HOWEVER.....the Mavs know they will be paying one guy a ton of money in the next trade. To send out that many contracts, you will have to take a bigger one back.

Yes, I want to pay Stack his salary for the next 4 years. He represents good value in his current contract...possibly unbelievably great value. Is Stack 3 or 4 years?

Regardless, even though he's not a great shooter by any means, he has an uncanny ability to get to the FT line. Somehow, he's efficient despite being about a 40% shooter. There are few people in the NBA that can pull off that trick. With a talented team around him, I see no reason as to why his shooting percentage wouldn't rise. I can see Stack's value quickly rising this season if he stays healthy.

I like Stack, always have, but he won't be the player he could be in Dallas...he needs a lot of minutes and a lot shots.

For some reason, I don't want to lose Stack for KVH just yet. I liked Stack's game and I want to see what he has left. He's the slasher and guy who gets to the ft that the Mavs need.
