Default 2008 Texas Rangers Thread

Well, first pitch is in about 20 minutes. Here's hoping the Rangers can get off to a better start and keep things interesting this season. The AL West should be pretty crappy with all the injuries the Angels have.

I'm looking for big things from Josh Hamilton and Ian Kinsler this season. Home Hamilton can stay healthy.

Go Rangers.

Fuku will be fine. He had some control issues, although mainly he was hurt by a catcher who had not caught him much. Both of those balls should have been stopped.

Disappointing that you can't get more damage from the lineup after chasing Bedard so early.

Ah well.

Seattle's gonna be really good.. they survived a really piss-poor effort from Bedard and still won decisively. Even if it was against the Rangers.

I don't know about really good. I think they'll win the division, but the West is going to suck this season with all the injuries the Angels are going through.

Seattle's lineup is just awful, that's what's going to hold them back, unless Sexson has a big year.

to elaborate on seattle, they have a TERRIBLE lineup. they have 4 major league players. Ichiro, ibanez, beltre and jojima. the rest of the lineup is absolutely terrible and aside from ichiro none of the other 3 is that great. their pitching also isnt that great. They have 3 amazing pitchers. Bedard, king felix and jj putz. However bedard and king felix are both extremely injury prone. there is almost no chance they get 30+ starts out of both and i think they will have a terrible record when the other starters start. so if you give them say 35 wins when those two start, they still would need 46 wins when someone else starts to get you to 81 and 81 and im sorry but they arent winning 46 games with the rest of those starters and that lineup.

okay, maybe not. Hamilton with the 2-run homer in the top of the 9th as the rangers take back the lead.

I still think Seattle wins the division, in spite of their awfu lineup. They're not going to win more than say, 85 games, but I think they win the division with that, unless the Angels get healthy quick or the Rangers have about 20 different "ifs" go the right way for them.

BTW, Josh Hamilton is a freaking stud, and his homerun wasn't even the best part about his game last night. We haven't seen a Ranger show that kind of range in centerfield in a long, LONG time. That ball he caught in the right center alley was just a beautiful display of range.

honestly id rather have texas' team than the mariners right now. they likely wont have a single player hit over an 830 ops and likely will only have 1 with over an 800 ops. they have the worst lineup in the AL and their pitching isnt good enough to make up for that. also as amazing as jj putz was last year hes only been a closer for a little less than 2 years. weve seen with cordero(and many others but since he was in texas well use him) that for whatever reason guys can just implode in that role. They were a 75 win team before they traded for bedard and he puts them up to about an 80 win team. The only positions i can think of where i would rather have the mariners regular guy than the rangers regular guy are catcher and right field(which will change when bradley becomes our right fielder and probably the catcher thing will change when salty becomes our catcher). That includes ichiro vs josh hamilton. They are gonna have to win too many games 3-2 and they dont have the pitching outside of the big 2 to do that.

As for the rangers, I think we are going to see MONSTER years from hamilton and blalock. I think young will be young(hell hit about 310 with about 10-15 homers-35 doubles and 100 rbis) and i think kinsler will be 25-25 with about an 825 ops. i think that makes up the difference in our pitching.

Of course, Mavs basketball is ten times more entertaining than anything the Rangers have done in the last DECADE.

I think it was almost MORE fun to be a mav fan when they sucked. ALMOST. But I do remember just being extremely happy just to get a regular season win. Now they don't really even register.

the mariners are out at 2-4 with bedard scheduled to miss his next start. they wasted 8 innings of shutout ball from king felix today. the rangers are about to go to 3-3. without putz they have a poor bullpen to go along with the worst offense in the league.

ben broussard leads the league in homers and rbis and josh hamilton and murphy have been awesome.

I'm excited to see what Murphy and Hamilton bring to this team offensively. Murphy continues to knock the hell out of the ball. He's the kind of guy that even when he doesn't get a hit, it's still an impressive at bat. I don't understand why Boston gave up on the guy. I think he's won a starting job...and I have a feeling that he'll have that spot for the next half decade at least.

Third straight really nice outing from Millwood today. If he pitches like that for a full season, this team could definitely compete for the crappy West.

yeah it looks like we may be getting his every couple of years dominant years. and if things keep going like they are, the gagne signing may end up being one of the most important signings in franchise history.

Insane channel flipping for me just now. Mavs and Rangers were ending at the same time, and the Stars were putting up a two goal lead.

The Rangers sweep the double header, the pitching continues to impress, and CJ Wilson is letting the greater baseball world know who the next young dominant closer is.

Good times in Dallas right now.

they look horrible. what's with them and early season sucking? they'll come around when they're mathematically eliminated.

Maybe they just like to take pressure out of the equation...
