They really need to thin out this roster. Too many guys good at one thing bad at the rest. And a lot of overlap.

That last shot attempt by THJ is why he needs to be traded. Dude tried to dribble like 20 times in order to force up a shot and then turned the damn ball over
That's just selfish ass basketball

Our favorite part of the game, 3s stop falling and Luka plays heliocentric for the last 6 minutes

Sucks they couldn?t enjoy a little rest in the 4th. Memphis got a little hacky towards the end too. Not surprised

mildly surprised tbh - i thought that shit would have gone out the door with Brooks leaving but perhaps not.
Is this the genius of Kidd to turn DJJ into the 3nD big wing we deserve?

So now what?
Josh Green or DJJ starting?
Hardy looked rough but came around.
Glad Seth got minutes but he?s what we?re used to seeing.
I really hope they keep going to Exum in spots. He has a feel for working within an offense. Doesn?t need shots to be effective.

Someone on r/mavericks pointed out that the Mavs are 3-0 for the first time 2004-2005. Hard to believe, but yeah, it's been damn year 20 years since the Mavs had a 3-0 start.
And on that note, god, I can't believe that was almost 20 years ago, because I remember that season vividly. First year without Nash, who then rips our heart out in the playoffs. The epic shootout where Dirk had 53 and T-Mac had 48, falling 0-2 to the Rockets in the first round, to then come back and win the series, blowing them out by 40 in game 7... All that seems like yesterday to me.

Good game but I cant wait until we play Denver to see how we look against a true contender.
Our first 3 opponents are 2-8 combined.

Luka Dončić just became the 1st player in NBA HISTORY with 2 Triple-Doubles & 117+ PTS in the first 3 games of a season.
Luka?s first 3 games
35 PTS - 12 REB - 12 AST
49 PTS - 10 REB - 7 AST
33 PTS - 13 REB - 10 AST
Only 3 undefeated NBA teams remain:
Denver Nuggets
Dallas Mavericks
Boston Celtics
Luka Doncic in the Win tonight without Kyrie Irving:
35 points
12 rebounds
12 assists
1 block
1 steal
50% shooting
6/12 3P
Dwight Powell had 4 blocks tonight... all against Jaren Jackson Jr
Without Kyrie a lot of players stepped up in tonight?s win.
DJJ: 22 points on 7-10 shooting (4-6 from three)
THJ: 21 points on 8-14 shooting (3-7 from three)
Grant Will: 15 points on 4-8 shooting (4-8 from three)
Josh Green: 12 points on 5-10 shooting (2-4 from three)

This was one of Kidd's better lineup games that I can remember.
I still like DJJ starting over Green. Green is more of a 2/3 and DJJ is a 3/4.
Lively still starting and still got more minutes than Powell despite foul trouble. Can't complain there.
Maxi finally had some productive minutes towards the end.
We still need Tim's shooting despite all of his warts. Guy is having a sneaky good season which is odd when the eye test makes you want to break your tv at times. Can't argue with 19 ppg on 38% 3 shooting though.
Exum is better than Franky Smokes.
So we may not be a super talented team, but we are a very deep one. FO seems to always prefer depth over up front talent.

DJJ isnt going to play the way he did...right? Unless he turned the corner over night. I certainly hope he did, but its highly uncommon.
Josh is a better player overall. He brings more hustle, defense, 3pt, more handles and definitely more passing. My oreference is to slide Grant over to 4 and put Josh at 3.

DJJ is a long, lanky super athletic defender though. I agree Green is a better overall player, but I get why DJJ starts. And I'm not just saying this from this game.
I'm fine either way, but it's not something I burn the house down over like Lively not starting.
Curious that Darius Bazley still isn't signed. He would seem to be a decent fit here.

I keep DJJ at the 4 because he fits well with Lively. Obviously the amount of 3s from him were out of the norm. And because Green looks better when Luka isnt on the court. Green is only a better shooter from the corners, DJJ is a better shooter overall imo.
Its really close though. Grant/DJJ/Lively or Green/Grant/Lively both work.
Still pretty bummed Holmes hasnt seen any action. Id love to see what he could do paired up with Lively or DJJ

Luka said Grant Williams is the biggest difference maker this season.
It's really weird that Williams is only 24 yet he plays like a savvy vet.

The fact that i had to do a quick bball reference comparison to aupport that Josh is better/more effective isnt a great sign, but he just came.on strong last season, so career numbers are what they are.
Statistically DJJ isnt a better shooter from anywhere besides the FT line. Green also has the edge in efg%. Without a deep dive, i cant say there arent specific spots on the floor that favor DJJ over Green, and the 2pt fg% is splitting hairs but that is also not worth the deep dive.
My concern is that we just paid Green and Id prefer them working on getting Josh and Luka effective instead of sticking brand new DJJ to Luka minutes.
100% agree that Holmes should be getting mins. It doesnt make any sense. The DP, Maxi crutch is in full effect.

For a game and a half, I thought we had a DFS replacement and was getting a bit disappointed. Then bam a few 3s and a few big plays on both sides of the ball including a nice off ball move for a layup and I started to see the light again. As of now its definitely an upgrade from Dfs and I think he only improves as time goes on and they build chemistry.

Playing bad teams sure
Winning though.
Last year we were bad against both winning and losing teams
We have a lot of growth to do but at least we?re getting wins when we can
