Let's goooo I'll be able to tune into this one, finally.
Anthony Black is one of my favorite dudes to come through Arkansas. Will be pulling for a good game from him in an Orlando loss lol

Are the Mavs going to be like the Cowboys where they take care of business regarding the inferior teams and lose to the good teams? We'll soon find out!

Mavs Magic preview
Good that Mavs won vs Hornets...I could be wrong but this one could be a schedule loss.
3rd game in 4 nights & traveling on a second night of a B2B to Orlando to face one of the youngest NBA teams that plays a very aggressive and athletic brand of defense.
We'll see if Mavs rest Luka who looked pretty banged up, Kyrie or both.
Anyway, Orlando 4th best D per Cleaning the Glass and BEST in the NBA at forcing turnovers.
Very long Paolo-Frantz-Bitadze frontcourt and Suggs who is a menace on D. Three of those avg >1.5 steals per game.

Yeah I fully expect a loss. Tired legs mean the threes won't fall and Orlando is the perfect 2023 team with tons of length and switchability to bother guys.
I fully expect Mavs to lose and the Magic to actually make the play-in/playoffs

I think the Mavs very well get blown out and their starters play limited minutes in the 2nd half. It's called adhering to load management while still making an appearance to avoid a fine.

63% and 71% from three
The inability to defend in the first half is an issue

Green needs a good game. You just got a new contract. Time to earn it.

Cowboys are 1-2 vs teams over .500 this early in the season.
They will most likely beat Seattle and Philly in a few weeks because both games are in Dallas and the Cowboys have won 11 straight home games the best in the NFL at this point.

Why do we even bother watching the games in the first three quarters when they only try to win it in the 4th?

Worst combination of defenders you could possibly play together Powell, Luka, Kyrie and THJ
Part of the reason why I can't watch half their games for long stretches
Poor defensive lineups are the most frustrating part of watching these games

Predictable rookie game for Lively, against a tough frontcourt, on a travel early back to back.

Again, it's amazing how we can tear apart the team with their flaws, and yet they somehow come back in these games.

Good teams will require 48 minutes but this team is lethal in the second half.

Ending the game with a Kyrie three assisted by Luka and then a Luka three assisted by Kyrie gave me shivers

Does it even matter if we suck in the first half? Shows a coach and team that learns and knows how to adjust. Last year, they would just falter or play just hard enough to still lose by 2-5 points.

This is the part of Luka's game that could use some improvement - the possession before those two he had Banchero on him and he thought to himself, i can take this guy... so he does his little dribble shake and bake and launches a 27ft step back which rims out.
<face palm> - dude just run some offense, pass the ball - it'll come back to you and you can take that shot any time.

We definitely need another big man who can play the 4 and 5 in a pinch. One that rebounds.
Then I think we're at least in the mix of contending.

Good lord, reading this thread, you'd think we had not only lost, but lost in a blowout, and that our record was 1-6 instead of 6-1.
The Mavs are a very flawed team. Nobody should be surprised by this. We knew this coming into the season. They are however, at least in my opinion and certainly to this very early point, significantly improved from last season.

I tend to agree. A two-way PF who can rebound. Get someone like that and we're a threat to make the finals. Problem is, players like that don't exactly grow on trees. Here's hoping Omax can be that guy in the future.

Good news - another win vs a mid team. Thats key this season until we hopefully make a trade.
Bad news - we are the most clumsy loose ball and fumble fingered rebounding team ever in history of basketball.
Good news - balanced effort, diving on the floor, back2bacl game no less.
Good news - i feel like we already won more clutch games than last season
Good news - whatever is being said at half time, the defense is responding

I think it's just safe to say the Mavs are good at this point. The competition hasn't been the best, but there is lots of untapped Mavs potential. Kyrie has been great at handling the ball, but he hasn't shot well, so there is plenty of upside left there. Green has sucked so far, and I expect that to turn around.
Lively just seems busted for his draft position. He needs a nerf already.

It was hilarious to see Luka continue to argue about the obvious foul he committed after it was reviewed. Foster was like, bitch I just watched the video.

Magic were hounding the boards, shooting 66% in that first quarter, and mavs were down 14 at half. It had all the makings up a blowout until the third quarter.

My biggest worry aside from rebounding are points in the paint defense.
Mavs rank 26 at 55.1 points per game allowed (last 3 games 64 ppg). Last year was 51 ppg, so hopefully it gets better? With Lively improving throughout the year.
The only teams avg worse currently are Wizards, Blazers, Suns, Pacers.

Truth.
Some of it is the three-quarters of low-effort defense. Maybe if we played as hard all game as we do in the fourth, we'd be 20th or even 15th, but I am still concerned. We give up a lot of layups and dunks.

Yep, it's the other three quarters thing that makes any stats this season super wonky.
I still wonder what happens with THJ. I'd sell high in an instant if another team wanted him with a piece we needed.
Question is whether Hardy is ready for that role. I think so since he is a volume scorer replacing another volume scorer. Hardy shot 40% from the 3 last season.
