With the #3 pick (!) in the 2018 draft, the Mavs get Luka Doncic
Mavs trade with Hawks to get Doncic.

I haven't been following the draft prospects much but Doncic reminds me of Goran Dragic. Hopefully he turns out good for us.

Love the player. Curious to see what the protections are. That slide from 3 to 5 was costly

Cant' trade firsts anymore.
Now we just have second rounders, cash, and cap space. Bet that means we're out until the second round

Yipee! at least its exciting.
Hope that pick is protected. If we are able to add another really good player in free agency, the pick may not be top five.

Remember when we got screwed in the draft? We were third and ended up drafting 5th?
It cost us a future first

Atlanta forum looks a hell of a lot like Knicks last year. Meltdowns everywhere.

Who better than Dirk to mentor this kid??
I worry him and DSJ will butt heads as they’re both used to being the primary ball handler but I pray we get it figured out.

Hope that we can get Luka slimmer and quicker. He’s a worker so not too concerned. Needs to work on finishing around the hoop. We have our Ginobli, our Parker, now just need our Duncan. Boogie?

Bazemore would have been perfect with them, but it is what it is. I really think Cousins is going to happen at this point. No defense will be played, but it'll be fun to watch.
Luka was slated as a top three pick no matter what, and I'm glad he is a Mav. I support him 100%.

For the right price he's still a professional capable of not being terrible at rebounding.

I could see Dwight on a large one year deal so our cap rolls over. Wes comes off and we’re true 2019 FA players

There are so many centers on the market right now. Must suck to be Nerlens Noel.

Much as I hate Howard, he's now just a vet that does his job. Put up 17-13-2 and is getting paid no matter what with the buyout and fully guaranteed money. I could see giving him 9-14mill for one year just to keep us

Wait the pick was top 5 protected?
So if the Hawks were going to draft Trae Young and Grizzlies were talking JJ........why on earth did we have to trade our pick? I thought it was lottery protected.

I must say that I am very excited about how our lineup is looking with the youth movement. DSJ, Barnes, and Dončić. Not bad at all! And if the Mavericks land Cousins that'll make us a team to fear.

I am also confused about Dončić's height. Is he 6'6" or 6'8"?

Yeah someone leaked our Doncic love and we decided not to take the chance. Unless there was some chance Memphis wanted Luka

So excited to see him play in Vegas. Now lets use those two second rounders well and maybe sneak another pick. I wanna watch more than Junior and Doncic play.

Yeah I Don't by that but i'm sure that's a negotiation tactic by them. Nobody chooses Trae Young over Doncic in this draft.

Aren't those two statements contradictory?
No one takes Young over Doncic but they were bluffing when they said they wanted Doncic?

No doubt about it. Steep price for moving up two spots. That said, I have always been a big fan.
Based on the video I have seen of him playing with Dragic, he can absolutely play off ball as well. Not as complimentary as a pick and roll 5 would have been with DSJ though.
All in all, I like that we went ALL IN. This was the draft to do it. And like others have mentioned, next year's draft is weak period. Doesn't mean there will be no one, but it isn't close to the past two drafts.
Now onto FA where it is very clear the Mavs are trying to find their way to the playoffs... lol.

It's two spots but the difference between Dirk and Tractor was HUGE.
Really hoping Doncic lives up to Dirk, but Young may be on his way to being as impactful as Traylor.
