SACRAMENTO, Calif. (AP) -- Veteran NBA guard Terry Porter joined the Sacramento Kings as an assistant coach Monday, replacing Hall of Famer Pete Carril.
Porter, a two-time All-Star, played 17 seasons in the league, including the past three with San Antonio.
He made the NBA Finals twice with Portland under current Kings coach Rick Adelman. Porter became the Trail Blazers' career leader in assists during 10 seasons with the club.
Porter also played with Minnesota and Miami before joining the Spurs, where he played in 72 games as a reserve last season. He played 1,274 career games, averaging 12.2 points and 5.6 assists.
Carril, the longtime Princeton coach, became a special assistant to Kings president of basketball operations Geoff Petrie last month.
Carril will assist Adelman's staff during training camp and will coach the team in selected games, but will no longer travel with the Kings full-time.
