Default Mavs and Xavier Henry??

Reading that Memphis is taking part in unprecedented contract negotiations with rookie draft pick Xavier Henry. Basically they're being cheap bastards, making him earn it via salary bonuses. Rookies are slotted by their draft position and given a 20% bump to work with, it's a given the max is done, but not with the Grizzlies this year. They want to make Henry work for that 20% bump, by inserting incentive clauses, ie rookie game participation, honors and attending offseason workout programs/summer league, etc. Given the notion that there is a lockout looming, Henry won't meet that summer league bonus.....now Memphis can stop playing hard ball and just sign the guy....or we can jump into the fray and give them 3 million and another a future 1st rounder for Henry. He gets us younger and can fill the wing spot, giving us quite a nice young threesome in Boobs, Jones and Henry.

6'6" guard. Great 3-point shot. Not the most physical/vertical, but a good finisher around the rim. Unselfish distributor. Decent man-to-man defender who doesn't have the best lateral movement, but matches up well against bigger guys.

There is no way we are interested in Henry without shipping out one of our many guards

Whenever you can pick up a top-half first-round pick and general prospect for cash you do it regardless of your needs. Plus its less about how many guards we have and way more about who is really going to produce for us.

For first-round minimum he wouldnt break the bank (even with luxury tax), he'd give bird-rights and he could be a valuable trade commodity for a team that is taxed (in more ways than one) on trade commodities. If we could flip Chandler and 2 firsts for talent, maybe we could instead flip Chandler, 1 first and Henry...you just gotta stockpile tradeable assets if you can get them below market value and it isnt too costly.

Plus he could be a baller and we need a spot-up shooter more than anything now that we have addressed our 5 spot.
