They should have won this game but every minute on the floor that Powell and Bullock played the mavs looked terrible on defense and got outscored.

At one point without Powell they went on a 22-8 run

The minute Powell checked in they got outscored 8-0

Did Porzingis score in the 2nd half? It seemed like he was having his way in the 2nd quarter, but ended with only 13 points.

Maybe the Pelicans still want THJ?

But hey, Sterling Brown getting it together would be big if he keeps it up.

And the Powell stuff is officially over. They need to trade him as soon as (if) possible.

Free Moses!

I'm hopeful that a trade is coming at least. The new GM and coach have been working and they have a lot of pieces. Still no tradable first-round picks until 2025, but they have a few assets and a team working on it.

I hope.

I really hope.

And see, KP and Luka are going to have off games. KP earned a bad game. It's up to the rest of the team like poo poo THJ to carry the damn weight.

Not having Brunson is hard to overcome. We win if he played. So I'm not too, too upset. Still needed to win this one though.

The problem isn't Powell. It's that the other guys are equally trash. Powell stopped starting, but WCS is also trash. KP played some C tonight finally, but he was also trash when playing at C.

And Moses Brown isn't going to solve it. KP is best at C and has to play C.

What we need is a PF other than Kleber that can defend and make up for KP's absolutely anemic rebounding. KP is 12th ON THE MAVS in rebounding %. The only players worse at securing rebounds? Trey Burke, DFS, WCS, Powell, JaQuori McLaughlin

Yeah for some reason they went entirely away from hom in the 2nd half.

I thought the trio KP, Maxi and Burke were the catalyst in the awesome 2nd qtr

I thought rebounding is one of Brown’s few strengths.

He’s a decent rebounder. The problem is that KP’s only position from a +\- vantage point is center, which is the only position Moses can play and KP has 1/3 of our cap for the near future.

Maybe we can trade Josh Green for a basketball player. I get more pissed about his pick by the day.

Yeah that’s the way I remember the 2nd quarter as well. If you are playing two bigs, it seems obvious to me that KP and Maxi are the two you want to play together.

I agree with most of this except for the Powell isn't the problem? He is the weakest link on this team. Even Willie can provide defense from time to time, but Powell does nothing that you need from a center. Nothing.

This team is missing a brute with some strength and attitude imo.
Whether it is from the center, or the PF position doesn't matter.
KP, Powell, Maxi and WCS are soft nice guys that provide no interior intimidation whatsoever.

I'm fine with adding a PF and letting KP play center as long as that PF can hang with guys like Rudy, Ayton, Jokic, Davis and other powerful bigs in the league. Currently we have no resistance options whatsoever against guys like them and KP seems to struggle on both ends.

If he can't get any PT over Brown, Bullock or Frank then his upside must be extremely limited.
However, I'm not sure how he could provide much less than Bullock.
I cringe less when Powell takes a 3 than when Bullock takes one and that is pretty bad from a supposed 3-D wing.

Sadly he’s one of the few “assets” we even have to trade. I hope we can get a Center with the TPE and some 2nds but if not we’d better hope some team loves Moses or Green. I’d hate to give up on Josh this soon though.

Yeah Powell is a major problem.

Go back and watch that game you'll clearly see every time he touched the floor the Mavs got outplayed. At what point it became a walking layup line when Powell entered.

WCS may not be any better but he at least contested a few Beal shots at the rim which Harper/Followill mentioned last night. Powell contested no shots because he has no lift anymore.

And Bullock should've had most of his minutes given to Burke who was actually playing a really solid game last night.

Bullock was supped to be a defensive upgrade but he got repeatedly beat off the dribble yesterday and somehow replaced DFS in the closing lineup.

It's like they are trying to force the issue with him in order to get him to play well.

Maxi and Trey were amazing last night and I thought Kidd should’ve gotten Burke some more minutes. Sterling played his best game by far as a Mav. Good to see.

We missed fts, some makeable putbacks and point blank shots, Luka (and others) didn’t stay aggressive when we were in the bonus down the stretch and settled for jumpers. Kidd continued the annoying habit of using a coach’s challenge in a questionable situation and very early in the game. Couple of plays where we really could’ve used it in the 4th.

We got battered on the glass and really need to import a bruiser to take most of Powell&WCS minutes. Maybe Houston will be happy with salary relief and trade us Theis. Thad Young would be great as a small ball C in the playoffs but doesn’t help much with our lack of physicality.

I honestly think this is our biggest problem and what will keep us from advancing in the POs if it isn't addressed.

We could use another playmaker and get better on the wings but those are areas that are somewhat manageable. The lack of physicality can't be managed because we don't have the physical pieces to make that happen.

We simply have to turn any combination of Green/Brown/Brown/Burke/Bullock/Powell/WCS/Draft Picks/etc... into a starting caliber center or PF who can rebound and adequately defend bigs.

Yes, will have to go through and look at rosters again but off the top of my head Theis has two years after this one at 9-10m, Favors has 1yr after this one and Thad is FA but I think we would retain his Bird Rights? We are about to learn a lot about current Cuban spending this off-season. If we take on any of those players and re-sign Brunson and DFS he’d have a HuGe tax bill. Unless of course we can unload some combo of Powell, Burke, Brown and Bullock.

Not surprised they couldn’t come away with this one. Wizards are really good this year.

Looking at strictly box score, seems like KP didn’t get enough shots up.

Dallas has a very definable ceiling until they can improve the center position. As silly as it sounds, Tyson please consider putting a jersey on.
