Sources: Nets swap Harris/Favors for Deron Williams
http://t.co/wHolFiK
Quote:
The New Jersey Nets are trying to rebound from the disappointment of their failed pursuit of Carmelo Anthony by swinging a blockbuster trade for the Utah Jazz's Deron Williams before Thursday's 3 p.m. ET deadline, sources said on Wednesday.
The Nets and Jazz, sources said, are closing in on a multi-team trade that would send Williams to New Jersey, with the Nets' Derrick Favors and Devin Harris going to Utah.
The deal, scheduled for completion later Wednesday after a trade call with the league office, would also involve the Golden State Warriors and bring multiple draft picks to Utah.
Just Tuesday night, the Dallas Mavericks were talking to the Nets about re-acquiring Harris, according to sources. The Mavericks had shown interest in the point guard in January and told the Nets the sides should talk again if New Jersey didn't ship him out in a Carmelo Anthony trade.
Sources said Dallas turned down a New Jersey proposal of Harris for Caron Butler, Mavs rookie Dominique Jones and a first-round pick.
|
Per Adrian Wojnarowski, Nets are adding $3M to this deal, but that's it. Harris/Favors for Deron freaking Williams.
Is Prokhorov an evil genius? He just pushed the Knicks into gutting themselves for Melo, and he got D-Will for basically nothing (considering how good Williams is). Incredible.

What are the chances Deron resigns with NJ?

Did the Nets just do what we would have tried to do after acquiring Devin? They packaged Harris with a talented player and got Williams for it. Too bad...

An hour ago, I felt confident that the Mavs could potentially land Devin with the hopes of flipping him for Deron, but both were traded for each other.
Feels like somebody just gut punched me while I wasn't looking

The Knicks could've gotten DWill and landed Melo in the offseason and had their superteam in a few months.
Ha-ha, Knicks!
Despite my laughter, I do have the punch in the face sensation happening.

Wow. This came out of nowhere. I don't know what to say. What did we get for trading A 24 year old Devin Harris again?

Yeah, maybe the Mavs shouldn't have let our intention of flipping Devin for Deron slip out publicly?

BG isn't the Mavs, he's the public - by the time he found out, it was probably already known within the Nets organization...

Interesting thing that Deron himself was caught by surprise as well
So don't know ... still looks like he will be a free agent in 2012

He wants to be a Knick doesn't he? I don't know how the Knicks can afford him with Melo and Amare under 20 million a year + contracts.

I also think this surely is an aftershock to what happened in Miami. Teams trade their stars if they are not sure if they will extend. Utah got a solid offer from NJ and took it after some rumors said that Deron wants to join NY.

STEP YOUR GAME UP CUBAN.
As much as i'm excited about Roddy B, you could've thrown together something like Roddy B/Stevenson and or Butler for the arguably the best PG in the game?
I also would be absolutely shocked if Deron bolted Dallas for New York or somewhere else, hopefully his time in NJ is so bad he leaves and never looks back.

2 young promising points, 2 first rounders and cash for a guy that will probably buy a house in New York and cross the Hudson after 2011/2012
At least he's got another guaranteed year ahead of him

It would be really interesting to know at what point the Nets approached Utah and whether or not the reports about us going for Williams after getting Devin eventually made them think that they should try and do the same now. If we unintentionally provided them with that idea, it would be even more unfortunate.
However, if the Nets had thought about Deron all along, then we probably wouldn't have gotten Devin with Butler's contract, Dojo and a pick anyway.
We'll never know, I guess.

The bottom of the West playoff picture got a lot more interesting with the DWill and Melo trades. Denver and Utah are 7 and 8 right now with Memphis and Phoenix right behind and New Orleans just ahead. I wonder if Memphis and Phoenix will see this as an opportunity and try to improve before the deadline.

Safe to say that Jimmer Ferdette will be drafted by the Jazz with their abundance of picks.

i don't know how one can claim that "for sure", especially in the case of d-will.
if cp3 ever becomes available, i want cuban to trade any mavs not named dirk or chandler to get him.
i did not pay enough attention to rose to have a concrete opinion, but cp3 is better than d-will.

A better player? Or are you saying he's better than Devin because Kidd is nowhere NEAR Deron's talent. NOWHERE. I'm guessing you are referring to Devin. I hope you are anyway. I'll say this. We got a more healthy player.

It did get interesting. I've seen people call the Nuggets the new Cavs because they no longer have a superstar but I like what the Nuggets and Jazz have left on their teams. With good coaching those teams both should be there in the playoffs. Even with trading their superstars their rosters are still superior to the Suns and Grizzlies. I have a feeling Nash might be the next guy to go honestly. Suns have to eventually get something for him. His trade value is still high.

I was thinking the same thing - given their recent play, both Memphis and Phoenix have a good shot at making the playoffs...

If Williams is pissed off and doesn't want to be there then that's good. Cuban can work his magic to get him here.(when available)
