we have enough veteran leadership with Dirk, Barea and Wes.
Dont need to waste a roster spot with a 35y old Harris, who will miss at least 20 games with some toe crap.
Roll the dice with any other young SG...

6’3”. Motly plays shooting guard which is what Yogi would have done. Slashed well and can hit the three. Strong defensively. Seems fine mentoring youth and taking limited minutes in parts of the season and playing extended minutes in Games when needed (and healthy)
|
Now there's a twist we didn't think about that solves both the center and shooting guard position. Just play Motley at the 2. Problem solved.

34% from downtown on a few selected shots is borderline crap...
Yogi shot 37% at a higher volume as a mini SG

34% from 3 is eFG of 51%. Not terrible
Harris can also defend unlike Yogi

I won't hate signing DH back cuz it's DH. But I'd personally rather give a 1 year prove it to a guy like Shabazz Muhammad. At least he shoots 41% for his career on corner 3's according to nbasavant. Which is more than what i can say for dodo atm. Besides a little competition might do him some good.

Thoughts on Jalen Jones?
6’7” swingman who can play 2 and 3. Tough nosed defender. Showed he could hit the three in summer league. 36% for us last year in regular season too. No one played harder in our summer league squad.
Could be nice to have a bruiser next to Smith and Doncic

I really like David Nwaba, but I think he has a few suitors.

Farrell is a really nice player that is 4-5 inches too small for his position. That means your worth is very low. Just look at what Isaiah Thomas got to know how much guys that are too small for their position are worth in today's league. The idea that you're going to strong arm Cuban for more money is hilariously misguided. Go get your extra 500k per season to play in Sacramento. Have fun with that.

I'd much rather have Jones than Dofin. Hes slightly better at everything and way more aggressive.

Put me down for Nwaba. Defense and rebounding, athletic, improved 3 point shooting, potential for some playmaking. What’s the most we could give him? Room MLE at 4.4? Does he want a multi- year or larger one year to dip back in next season? Guarantee of playing time?
We need defensive minded wings in the worst way. I love Devin but would rather have a guy that could develop into a true 3&D type

Is Dirks deal done? If we gave him the 4.4 what’s the most we could carve out?

Honestly, I'm good with any of those. Anything they bring at this point with our roster is pure bonus. I just do not want another undersized player at any position. I guess going back to all of the draft comments, Devin is a high floor and low ceiling guy. Nwaba is a low floor and medium ceiling. Jones would be a bottom floor and medium ceiling.

$6.2m to back up Fox... Makes sense for Yogi -- the extra money goes a long way for a guy of his caliber, plus he'll get more playtime if he's not contending with Barea/Brunson for backup minutes.

Can't blame Yogi for that money. Quite the pay raise from what we offered. Wish him the best except when he plays against us!

No its not, its also a two year deal. i read its a 70k raise after taxes.
For that he plays for a garbage franchise, he can backup Fox but they are loaded at SG...so not sure if there are more minutes for him.
Edit: 2nd year is guaranteed....okay there is the difference

Yogi shouldn't have accepted the first offer if he wasn't aware of the full details (either it's his fault for getting cold feet, or his agent's fault for not ensuring the second year was guaranteed prior to accepting the deal). Either way, best wishes to Yogi. He deserves to ball out and get paid for real after two years. From the Kings perspective, Yogi is basically what they were hoping to get out of Frank Mason III who looked overmatched on offense and defense. I suspect he will be cut or traded by the end of next season.

Excellent point. I wonder if it was a guaranteed second year that made Yogi choose the Kings

Yeah, not blaming Yogi for taking more money is moot in this case. Nobody forced him to agree to terms with the Mavs and then suddenly reneg. I never thought we'd keep him coming into the offseason anyway, but it still doesn't look good when players back out of contract agreements.

I for one am glad that we dumped a dude who mostly played SG (and even got SF minutes) who needed shoes to get to 6 feet
Love his fire and his story of making it. Other than that he was just totally mediocre and killed our rebounding and defense while honestly playing pretty selfishly
That experiment is over. Now let’s find another 6 footer to backup Jordan

If we could get a solid backup shooting guard who is 6'6" or so that would round out the roster
That and a backup power forward with 3 point range

Other than Dirk (41%) Barnes (36%), Kleber (31%), and Spalding(*)? We also have Kostas to round out our group of 5 PFs, although dude has zero jumper.
We also have 14 guys on roster with Yogi standing us up. Only 12 guys can be active at any one time. We have tons of either natural PFs or guys like Barnes who can play PF well enough while we basically have zero natural SGs (Smith is more a PG, Doncic and Matthews are more SFs)

Last night he was saying how glad he was to be back with the Mavs.
Really is a blessing in disguise. Might be biased, but I prefer Harris anyway. Hopefully they target someone else though.

The money definitely doesn't go as far in California. Everything costs more. However, I'd rather be there if I could afford it.

I am pretty upset about this news. I feel like Ferrell had really shown growth already as a player. Last year he almost put up numbers as good as J.J., and that's saying a lot since J.J. had his best season yet. The good news? The Mavericks are not as undersized as they would have been with him on the team. Also Brunson is bound to get more playing time.
Now I just hope the Mavericks can sign Devin Harris or a true 2. If the Mavericks can make the right trade to get rid of Matthews that'd be awesome, but why would a team take on his expiring contract unless they can dump a contract that we probably don't want. We don't need another situation in which we're stuck with a player like Tariq Abdul-Wahad.

If the money works, I'd like a Wes-for-Courtney Lee trade. He's a few million cheaper but his contract lasts through next season.

What does it even mean to "play with stats" lol?
I'll always be a Yogi fan just because of the excitement he was able to bring in as a 10-day guy. Always hustled on the court, which I appreciate as a fan. Best of luck to him.

So who gets that last spot? I imagine that if we were going to call up Devin it would have happened by now...

I think it’s the opposite.
Mavs are probably holding off on signing him to see if anyone else can be had for cheap. NBA teams are basically fishing with finer and finer nets to catch smaller and smaller fish, but still some decent deals out there potentially.
Celtics just waived Nader. Nwaba probably will get a contract bigger than 2-3 mill like we can offer but it would be dumb to sign Devin with a couple of potentially medium-sized fish out there.
If the guys we like more than Devin fall through, then we call him up if he doesn’t have a contract or maybe we even bring him back as a player development guy and let him semi-retire.

I kind of think they go into training camp and the preseason without filling that final spot. If they do fill it it wouldn’t shock me if they fill it with Vince Carter. He’s obviously a vet which we all know Carlisle loves and he’s a wing which the Mavs need. He’d be cheap and for marketing reasons could make Mark a lot of money with him and Dirk going out together. Plus he’s friends with Dirk. Not saying he’s the best choice (I’d prefer Hood or Alkins) but he just seems like the kind of guy they’d sign.

GSW need to do the right thing and sign Vince for a ring.
