Good trade for the Mavs, sad on missing out on Gafford, but to move down 8 spots and pick up two second rounders from a bad team is a must-do.

I agree we didn't draft him because of Powell, but this move may come to bite us in the ass if we can't find someone to rebound and defend at the 5.

Well....Pistons suck, so this future 2nd round picks could be in the early 30s range...

Stein says 45 but everything has been flying around so fast tonight there might have been a mistake made

Yeah it's 45 but then just says 2 future 2nds. And Detroit just acquired 4 2nds from Cleveland.

I'm cool with Roby. Good rebounder and defender. Pf. Not bad.

The first swap with Cleveland netted four seconds: one in 2020, one in 2021, one in 2023 and one in 2024. Cavs also paid cash.
The second swap cost the 2020 and 2021 plus tonights’s 45th.
|
If this is true we get Cavs pick in 2020 and 2021.

@espn_macmahon: Source: Mavs have agreed to terms with undrafted Penn State SG Josh Reaves
@DraftExpress: Penn State's Josh Reaves will sign a two-way contract with the Dallas Mavericks, a source told ESPN.
@bobbykaralla: Very strong defender. 6-4, 6-7 wingspan. Only one major conference player other than Reaves had a steal percentage >4 and block percentage >3 (M Thybulle). Big Ten DPOY, led conference in steals/gm and steal % three years in a row. Top-10 in conference in DBPM all four years.

All signs that the Mavs know they are going to suck on defense without upgrades.

Good call!
Reading the profile and from what little I've seen it appears Roby is basically another version of DFS with more strength.
I like the pick because we definitely need more defensive oriented wings/forwards but he'll need to work on that shot to surpass DFS and/or Jackson for PT.

I like what they did. I was secretly hoping we would take Gafford, but with Powell back and eyes on a longer deal, they went with a wing. Yes, I know they list him as a PF, but Roby plays more like an NBA wing.
Edit: do we know for sure if it's Cleveland with the second rounders? That would be solid given they should suck more than the Pistons. Either way, seems Donnie and Co. got their guy and added some future assets.

Yeah i thought that the Pistons cant be that stupid to send two early 30s to Dallas.
Still, they are solid throw-ins if they are looking to dump Lee (or THJ next summer)

If Roby was the guy we wanted at 37 and we ended up getting him at 45 anyway, then I'm fine with those late seconds as throw-ins... Like sefant77 said, if nothing else they can be used to sweeten a trade down the line.

3) Daniel Gafford - said it above, but his defensive versatility and rim-running is exactly what you need from a center
4) Brandon Clarke - undersized, but his motor, timing, and tenacity are all elite.. like Gafford fits the role of the modern 5 very well
5) Matisse Thybulle - elite perimeter defender with higher offensive upside than Andre Roberson

post-SL update on my underrated list
1) Herro - averaged 20 points in SL and is already considered untouchable (along with Bam) for the Heat
2) Johnson - dropped 29 on the Grizz in SL play (Grizz play in the championship tonight)
3) Gafford - averaged 14 & 8 to go along with 3 blocks a game on 68% shooting.... Mavs could have had him (sigh)
4) Clarke - averaging 15 & 9 on 57% shooting... made game winner to send Grizz to the championship... won SL mvp
5) Thybulle - showcasing all around game with 12 points, 4 boards, 2 dimes, 2 steals, and over 1 block a game
I was also extremely high on Carsen Edwards (20 ppg) and Roby (over 1 steal, dime, and block a game)... still wish we had taken Gafford, but I'm excited for Roby
