According to The Hollywood Reporter, Jason Statham (Crank) is likely to star in the Universal Pictures remake of the cult classic, Death Race. The new version will be produced by Tom Cruise, Paula Wagner, Jeremy Bolt and W.S. Anderson, who is also writing the screenplay. Shooting is likely to begin in late summer or early fall.

The original 1975 movie, titled Death Race 2000 starred David Carradine and Sylvester Stallone and depicted a brutal future where the U.S. president oversees a violent cross-county road race in which competitors get extra points for running down innocent bystanders.

Death Race 2000 also inspired videogames, including a 1990 version from Nintendo.

I found myself watching this before the game last night....just the last 20 minutes. I didn't think much of it. It's probably mildly entertaining. I was really only watching bc I'm a big fan of Nathan Fillion, of Firefly fame. http://imdb.com/name/nm0277213/

I highly recommend it.... Drive, not Death Race.... don't mean to hijack this thread....

But that's why I gave it a shot (dude from Firefly)... and the story is pretty entertaining.
