Official Mavericks @ Knickerbockers Game Day Thread - 01/11/06
The Celtics game didn't exactly work out like many of us expected, but a Stack attack made sure we walked away with the win. Now we encounter a New York team that is suddenly 4-0 after being pathetic for all of 2005. Really didn't think they'd beat the Cavaliers last night. That said, the Mavericks are much much beter.
Will Dirk hit thirty? Will Terry remember he's a point guard too? Will Keith van Horn make more shots than he takes? Will DeusDeOmini again give me negative rep for "appauling" ignorance? We'll find out tonight!

knicks have been playing better as of late. young players have a lot of energy and hustle. they keep it close first half, but mavs pull away in 2nd.

The Mavs build a double digit lead in the third, but the young Knicks hang around and pull to within two in the closing sixty seconds of the fourth quarter before Dirk drives to the basket for an "and one" and seals the deal.

How many games can the Mavs play close before the other team bites them in the butt? Let's hope it's not NY.

This is a trap game. The Mavs need to be careful. The Knicks backcourt is going to give them fits, and the Knicks are playing really well in the past few games (4-1; won in Cleveland last night).
I've got the Mavs winning, but it'll be another fairly close one.

I don't think a back-to-back will phase a young team like the Knicks. The Mavs should win because they are the better team, but I don't think the back-to-back gives them that much of an advantage.

Well okay we had a lot of injuries ... but we also have a relative young team and had a lot of probs in our back to backs
I think it will be close until the mid of the 3rd and then we prevail.

The back to back will hurt them much more BECAUSE they are a young team.
You don't see that amount of action in the NCAA,it takes a great deal of NBA to build the endurance and mentality of 82 games a season and back to backs.
Mavs will run'em down through the third.

For the NYKs, three games in four days, back-to-back tonight, after travelling to Cleveland yesterday. You'd hope it would create some advantage for the Mavs, but also hope the Mavs aren't counting on it.
LB has the NYKs playing with a little bit of grit for the first time in a long time--some stretches of effort on D, but they still suck defending the 3. At least the three rooks are producing. Nate Robinson started against the Sonics on Sunday, David Lee hit the game winner. Will be interesting to see Frye match up with Dirk.
Curry is finally starting to show some signs of life too...Brown has been feeding him early and often and he's been fairly productive. His stamina really wanes about midway through Q3 though, and he still has a knack for really dumb fouls. Speaking of dumb fouls, I hope Damp can do a number on him tonight.
Would love to see a blowout, but I'll settle for a 99-91 Mavs win.

For whatever reason (I guess Walt Frazier is out of commission)...
Kenny Smith is calling this game for the Knicks tonight.
Kind of weird.

Another fine start. Thankfully Eddy Curry seems to score 90% of his points at the start of the game most of the time, so I guess we're getting that out of the way.

Jason Terry absolutely sucks at dribbling the ball with any type of pressure.

Dallas's offensive is disgusting today.
Their defense has not been that bad. NY is getting a lot of free throws

Dallas can't rebound tonight and they can't take care of the ball. That's pitiful.
And at some point they are going to have to stop putting NY on the line.

The Knicks will have 70 by the end of the first half. The TO's speak for themselves...these guys are listless.

This feels so like our game against Minnesota ... they get all the rebounds they want on the offensive end for 2nd chance points ... but still Dallas will win in the end =) It's not even half time yet .

Chum... what's going on is Dallas can't get any stops because they either foul... or can't secure the rebound. And offensively they turn it over every other trip down.

Good lord we're shooting 50 percent, but are getting outhustled for boards and making stupid mistakes. Is Dirk in the doghouse?

They need to pick up the aggression in the second half. The FT discrepancy is really killing them right now.

That was a man-sized drive by Dirk. He took that one in with purpose.
I think the scowl afterwards may have been reserved for his teammates.

This is the "toughest" I've seen Dirk play in a long while.
Granted, it's only been a couple possessions, but still. They'll be timely ones if we come back and win.

Well, I excpect them to play better in the second half and at least make a game of it.
Regardless, this has made my "should I record Lost" dilemma a non-issue
I'll have to catch the comeback on a torrent or something or other.

i can`t see the game live on tv but the stats suggest to me that the mavs are tired and not rested enough to outhustle the knicks? is that right?
