Chandler MUST BE an All-Star starter!
Jason Terry: "Tyson’s an All-Star. I don’t know how many times I have to say it, but he needs to be in that game. He’s the best center in the West. I mean, you name another center in the West that’s better than him, night in and night out."
In my opinion, Chandler is gonna take Yao's place in the all-star game.
What you guys think about that?

I really do love chandler. He has been great. And if the requirement is to start a "true center", then he should be the guy.
But in fairness to those that deserve an all-star slot, i think it would be better that gasol slide in as the starting center. That way, someone like griffin or Love doesn't get the shaft just because the west has to start a "true center".
Don't see how Jefferson is a center, either...

Odds on favorite will probably be Gasol. I know the announcement for the reserves come Thursday, but when were the coaches' ballots due. I mean for the last week, Tyson's been putting up double digit poiint and board totals, but if you just pull out the stat sheet, it's a mere 10-9.

It's going to take an injury and Melo getting traded in my opinion.
Spurs HAVE to get 2 players on the roster. Carlisle mentioned that W/L record goes a long way in determining the reserves. Gasol could be Stern's pick for the center, makes sense since it is in LA. I just think a few things have to work out before Chandler gets a go...just a bad break for a good guy.
I hope I'm wrong though

thus the statement about "true center". Honestly, the only true centers mentioned so far are chandler and okafor. But gasol can play center, and i'd rather have love and griffin on the team than chandler and/or okafor.
And gasol is listed at center on his nba.com page. maybe that was just changed because of stern's upcoming announcement to have him start.

Gasol's going 18-10 thus far, regardless of LA, he's the best center....but that doesn't mean I trade Chandler for him. I think whats going to happen is the reserves will be announced and Stern will select replacements. So Gasol should be on the reserves list. Guesses
F-Dirk, Love
C- Gasol
G- Williams, Manu
WC - Duncan, Paul

Nice you just put the hex on Okafor, just announced he's out 1-3 weeks with a strained oblique.

From a PR standpoint, it makes sense to put Gasol as a starter.

Not only that, but it will help get another deserving forward in as a backup... which is going to be a huge issue this year.

Well if that's the case, I nominate the center position for the West to be played by a collective of Dwyane Wade, Chris Bosh, and LeBron James. And find some minutes for Ginobili there too.

The real question is if Tyson will be picked as a reserve. Gasol will get the starting center spot. Then you gotta ask.. is Tyson more deserving then Blake Griffin, Kevin Love, Lamarcus Aldridge, Zack Randolph because the Mavs have a much better record? How about Tim Duncan? He is having an off year but is on the best team in the league, and still has better numbers than Tyson.
The only chance I see Tyson getting in unfortunately is if they feel they need to have at least one legit center chosen.. instead of numerous very deserving PFs. Especially Love and Griffen.. those guys have to get in regardless of their team record IMO. They are just too dominant.

Like Dirk and Duncan. ASG isn't a place for this trio, but definitely Chandler should be there. Tyson is energy player, who makes monster dunks.

I'm selfish. I'm cool with Tyson sitting this puppy out to rest and not jack up his salary further.
Next year, I'm all in for you, Top Cat!

Anything can happen...Stern picked Kidd to replace Kobe in the All-Star game last season when both Brooks and Ellis where playing better than Kidd.
I agree that Tyson should be there but if Stern is gonna pick another Lakers player than it should be Odom not Pau because Odom was playing better than him.
The All-Star game is still a popularity contest and if the Spurs don't atleast have 2 players on the All-Star team that's gonna be sad but they might not even care.

It was in Dallas...that's why that made sense for Kidd.
I'm pretty sure the Spurs will get two guys. Like I said, Carlisle (speaking for coaches) said that W/L record goes a LONG way in determining who gets nominated.

Gasol will start most likely, then the reserves will be:
F- Dirk, Love
C- Duncan
G- Williams, Westbrook
WC - Griffin (or Aldridge), Manu
Tyson would have to get in there through the argument of being on a winning team vs a mediocre/bad team. That would put him there over Love or Griffin/Aldridge, but those players are playing too good this season, carrying their teams.

I would take Griffin, but I'm taking a stab at what the coach's will vote for. Love is a 3rd year player, Griffin will get his due....eventually. But he could be a Stern pick as a replacement.
If it was me, I'd go Dirk, Griffin, Gasol, Williams and Ellis, WC being Aldridge and Gay.

yes, of course. My comment was based more on the fact that he is listed as a center on nba.com.

I'm trying not to forget that TC is semi-injury-prone. The less extracurricular games he plays, the better.

Isn't there someone on nba.com arguing that Dirk shouldn't be on the all star team? If that's the case then Tyson's got no hope at all.

He has Lamarcus Aldridge on there ahead of Dirk.... but at least is reasoning is that Duncan and Dirk said they wouldn't mind sitting out the all star game to stay healthy, so it's whatevs.

As I understand it, Stern will pick the replacement but Popovich will decide who starts. At least, this is what I recall happening with George Karl and Dirk last season.

Wonder if the dirkster could swap his spot...But by all-star time I expect he'll be pretty much fully recovered.. And he doesn't play a lot of minutes usually anyway.
I am surprised that Timmah got in...maybe his last year I guess and the record made it happen.
