Cool Carlisle has got to stay

I'm sick of seeing the name of that other thread, so I decided to right the ship.

Plus, I haven't started a thread in eons.

I hope Rick is the coach here for another ten years, minimum.

Also, I'd like to take a moment to give props to Spiral, who was the first person I remember on this board pushing hard for Carlisle, long before Avery was let go. I liked Carlisle, but I wanted Larry Brown more.....

whoops....

Rick could be our version of Jerry Sloan...mixed with a lil more winning.

I've been a big fan of his mad scientist lineups that everyone hated (until it won us a ring) ever since he got here. Carlisle has a completely original approach to the game - he's not afraid to use all 15 guys on his roster if it can buy his team a win.

Like Dirk and Cuban, I think RC is going to be a regular fixture in this franchise for a long time.

Well, no one has a right to criticize him next year when he throws crazy lineups again on the court. He has earned every right to experiment every possible lineup during the regular season.

"Mr Right Now", which was one of the descriptions after Carlisle was hired, has certainly turned into "Mr Right." Right after the Finals, the infamous John Hollinger called Carlisle the best coach in the league besides Pop. There's definitely been a lot of praise for him during our playoff run and it's also extremely obvious that MANY fans of other teams would love to have Carlisle as their coach.

Personally, I can't remember ever being overly critical of him. Sure, the occasional lineup looked weird and there were games where his decisions wouldn't work out as intended. However, there's no doubt that this man knows his stuff, has a concept, and doesn't seem to have any flaws that would affect our chances in a negative way. Avery was certainly different in that respect.

Carlisle was a big part of our championship run. Just like Underdog, I don't see any reason why he shouldn't be a regular fixture for a long time.

So, when do we offer Carlisle the "lifetime" contract?

Did you mean, "just like Underdog said," or are you trying to imply that I should be a regular fixture with the Dallas Mavericks for a long time?

(because if you meant the latter, then you should pass that request on to Cuban for me - I want my statue right next to Dirk's!)

This reminds of what Bird said in that interview with GAC, that "Rick is not afraid to try anything in the playoffs." I'd imagine that a lot of guys coach "afraid to lose," or in the case of Avery Johnson, see monsters under the bed. Not Carlisle. The dude is going full-out to win, no matter what it takes, and he doesn't worry about consequences. I'm sure the players enjoy having him on their side.

And I'm sure that when he called his team "soft," it A) was very calculated, and B) had a large impact.

If I didn't love Carlisle enough already, I do after hearing this response to Gordon Keith (post Game 6 in the locker room). Not safe for work:

http://gordonkeith.wordpress.com/201...sle-interview/

(In case it's lost on anyone here, Carlisle was joking. Also, I love that Gordon refers to this as an "exclusive interview.")

Well, yes. Have him stay. Don't forget that this is largely due to the effect of winning a championship. Remember how most of us wanted him gone after the Spurs-Mavs series last year?

Not really. Only certain fans who love a certain player irrationally.
