Default What's the deal with Josh Howard?

I know he's rehabbing from surgery but... it really seems to be taking abnormally long, far longer than all estimates were before he had it.

Now they're saying he won't even play in the season opener, and nobody seems to know when he'll ever play at all.

Strike anyone else as odd and somewhat disheartening?

Not really. The Mavs are stacked this season to withstand injuries. Ross is the real deal on defense and will be a nice guy to have when injuries hit. Just as long as Marion doesn't get injured at the same time. That is the biggest concern. This roster and season will be a waste if both of them can't overcome the injury bug. Otherwise, no point in rushing Howard if he isn't 100%. The season is too long to worry about such things right now. You could even argue that the Mavs are better than last season's team even with Howard on the sidelines. So a 50 win team without Howard? Can't complain about that.

We saw how rough last season was without Howard for a good part of it. If our goal is to win a championship, we make sure we're healthy come the postseason. As long as we think we can make the playoffs without rushing players back from injury, then it is only logical to keep Howard out until he's completely ready to go.

You guys can talk about that we need a healthy Josh...but wer fine without Josh at this point , which is why I believe we should have traded him as soon as we got Marion. I am sure we could have gotten a good starting SG and possibly a "good" C. But once again hes just sitting around, and taking up a roster spot. I give him credit for playing thru it in the playoffs, but IMO he hurts us as much as he helps....and I dont understand with the guys we have now, why he wasnt moved.

Thank you for your fine police work, without which someone might want to reply to a thread.

I do however agree this team can win 50 games without J-Ho. if we are still waiting for him to be the missing link to a championship we are wasting our time. This team is stacked and if an upgrade, or even filling a role consistently with a J-Ho trade, is possible, then this is a good year to make that happen.
