Awesome Damp article there. We should definitely be hanging on to the DUST chip. I see big things next off-season, and bringing in Marion (possibly/hopefully) and Gortat would make us that more likely to lure another superstar. Not to mention All-Star weekend is in Dallas this year so everyone will get a taste of the Big-D! The stars just may be aligning.

What can I say...I love talking Mavs and NBA in general.

I might not be on the right track with my thoughts all the time, but you guys on here usually help me figure things out.

The Suns' trying to keep Hill and how Jared Dudley played under Gentry, it appears free-agent small forward Matt Barnes will not be back.

Barnes said his agent, Aaron Goodwin, told him Dallas, Cleveland, Orlando and the Los Angeles Lakers (before Ron Artest's signing) showed interest but the Suns have not.

"I guess they're headed in a different direction," Barnes said. "It was a hectic year. I don't think anyone was at their full potential on the team with the coaching situation (Terry Porter's hiring and firing). After the season, Alvin Gentry told me he wanted me back and that I fit his style and he'd always wanted to coach me. Steve Kerr was honest and said they might not have too much money."

Barnes came to the Suns on a one-year, $926,678 deal last year with the idea of a major role in a beneficial system leading to a better contract. He averaged career highs in points (10.1) and rebounds (5.5) but faces a tough market.

Admittedly my only real exposure to Barnes was his ridiculous year with the Warriors, but based on that, I wouldn't be opposed to bringing him in for the LLE at all. Also, the tax threshold's nearly 2 mil lower than expected. Wonder if causes anyone else to back out of their "commitments."

I love that the nickname 'Boobie' is starting to stick... I actually overheard someone say it on the radio last week (Ticket or Fan - not sure which station...)

'French Cuffs' is a stupid nickname anyway (why not 'French Kiss' or 'French Fries'???)

At least boobies are something we can all appreciate!

Unless we have something big in store, Barnes is probably the best guy we can get with the LLE (assuming we don't just hang onto it...)

Kidd/Marion/Barnes/Gortat/Boobie without losing a single rotation player (unless you count Bass, but Marion cancels the loss) - that's a pretty damn fine offseason!

(I'm happy even if we don't add Barnes, but he's good insurance...)

The options are pretty damn good:
-Save the LLE for next year when you'll probably get someone pretty good for the value

-Use it now and try to stack the deck in your favor.

He wore French Flag cufflinks to the draft and his press conference with the Mavs....

Not that it isn't a stupid nickname, but there was a last an actual origin.

And if Quinton Ross and Marion are added I think you can forget about a swingman for anything other than the vet minimum unless George and Wright are both dealt. Even then I think using the LLE on a swing guy is unlikely.

If it's not on a swing guy, it's gotta be a PF-like guy. I think it's wasting an asset if you try to go with a PG, the minutes won't be there IMO.

Antonio McDyess
Leon Powe
Joe Smith
Shelden Williams

that's my list.

It wasn't French flag cufflinks. That would be too bourgeois, for a cosmopolitan man like Beaubois. It was a custom shirt with the French flag colors on the cuff. It was very, very nice.

Remember when Donnie said this was going to be a creative summer?

-Turned pick #22 into Boobie/Calathes/Nivins/2010 2nd-rounder...

-Went after Gortat instead of Shaq, Kaman, Camby or Chandler...

-Re-signed Jason Kidd...

-Traded Stack for Marion (assuming it pans out...)

-Added a defensive specialist in Ross...

-Saved the Damp chip...

-Retained all core players...

It almost looks as if Donnie is playing in a contract season!

don't forget Nick Calathes and Ahmad Nivins. My guess is that one of those 3 turns out to be a real player.

I love this DUST chip idea. I guess we can also let damps contract run out and we get in the bidding war for all the FAs in '10. I also like damp/gortat combo for the season plus a run the playoffs. Damp off the bench would be interesting??

I think we are in great position for a starting caliber player added via trades this offseason and next.

I like barnes for the lle, but we'd have to make some room.

They CLEARLY don't love their boys in blue with all of these moves.

Looks like Dice is heading to SA, would be a great pickup for them.

I would add Diogu to your list, potential to be our next Bass.

Frye too, but i guess he will be more expensive and will find a real backup place.

Diogu seems alright but it seems like he's a LOT like Bass, but maybe not as great of a shooter...which made Bass incredibly valuable.

It's irritating as hell seeing a 6-8 or 6-9 guy trying to go up strong in the land of the trees.

True dat, playa.

Now, tomorrow is a big day. Let's hope that it all comes to fruition.

And...if you think that Donnie doesn't have something in mind for Damp, you are crazy.

Not a shocker since Beaubois came to us in the first round but...

Mavs sign draftee PG Beaubois

http://www.google.com/hostednews/ap/...z12cAD999R5T81

DALLAS (AP) — Mavericks point guard Rodrigue Beaubois is jumping right into the NBA.

Beaubois, who has played professionally in France, took part in his first summer-league practice Tuesday and signed his rookie deal with the club.

As the 25th overall pick, he's slotted to receive almost $896,200 this season and $963,400 next season, with a $1.03 million option for his third year.

Beaubois actually was drafted by Oklahoma City, then was sent to Dallas for the No. 24 pick (B.J. Mullens) and a second-rounder.

Beaubois has athletic ability but is considered a raw basketball talent. Whether he's ready to back up Jason Kidd and J.J. Barea remains to be seen, but that's why he'll be part of the Mavericks' summer league team in Las Vegas.

I take him for the LLE to be our 3. PF behind Dirk and Marion any day.

Last 2 RS games he averaged 30/12, 63% FGA

Maybe - Damp gains value between now and the day we sign DWade...

(Imma go take a shower to wash the dirty off me now!)

I'm not sure why anyone thinks DWade would ever come to Dallas. The only way I could see him willing to come here is if he feels guilty about being part of a conspiracy that awarded him a championship and took it away from The Mavs.

He should. He owes this to us.

Yeah. That is pretty crazy! wtf

Someone must have made him mad, but to have 2 GREAT games like that consecutively, at the end of the season is kinda weird. Especially after he got nothing in the way of minutes ever...

It would be similar to Singleton or SWilliams going off for 28 and 32 the next night.

Winning a ring with Wade would make me feel dirty. I prefer JJ or Bosh 2010.

@SMC: Check his other years, he always did 16-20PPG when he got the time...he can be a poor Millsap if he get a chance.

Always liked big Ike. He'd be a nice of backup if need be for cheap.

The Mavs are close to the point where they need to start figuring out how to get rid of players.
