GDT: Phx Suns vs Dallas Mavs January 27, 6:30 p.m. central
Portland and Houston won last night. Mavs need to keep pace if they want to make the playoffs.

Beating the Spurs would have been nice, but these are the types of games the Mavs need to win.

Mavs aren't much better off than the Suns. Not sure of the point of making the playoffs only to be brutalized by Spurs/OKC/Clippers and swept away in first round.
Just play the young guys and really find out what they can provide for the team and figure out if they're worth keeping.

I'd like to see Sarge get some meaningful minutes. Carlisle is probably right for not playing him as he'd know much better than I but I'm hard headed and need to see for myself.

I'm right there with you in playing Sarge. He's raw, for sure, but brings so much energy to go with defense and rebounding.

He's consistently been a positive. I know he usually doesn't come in until we are down 30, but his entry always sparks a run and he's one of our best rebounders and defensive players. You have to discount his stats slightly because of when he plays, but he's 1st in rebounding and blocks, 2nd in defense, and has a pretty decent net PER.
Among centers (and Dirk):
Rebound rating
30.6 James
27.9 Brand
26.8 Kaman
18.5 Dirk
17.6 Wright
Net defense per 100 possessions (lower is better)
-4.2 Brand
-2.8 James
+2.7 Dirk
+3.0 Wright
+4.6 Kaman
Shot block rating
10.5 James
7.3 Brand
6.6 Wright
6.0 Kaman
2.9 Dirk
Net PER
7.0 Wright
5.4 Brand
1.9 James
0.2 Kaman
-13.8 Dirk (at center)

4 wins in their last 14. Yup really turned the corner with the two game win streak! It's over, Looks like it's a lock between LA and Miami.
Mavs should win this one but I can't see a blowout.
I have to agree with a cpl other posters about seeing what the hell we have with the young guys. Sarge, Roddy, DC, Mayo. Who is gonna climb the wall and get their career going on a consistent high level...if any. I think it's clear that we aren't making waves if we eek into the playoffs. We'd be extremely lucky to get one game vs any of the top 4. *Without a trade

Stop setting up Marion for three pointers. I don't care if he takes one every now and then, but that isn't efficient bball.

Sarge has to go up alot stronger than that vs Gortat.

Collison just needs to get more into it. You can't lolly gag in the first quarter. Focus, man, focus!

Sarge with 3 rebounds in 6min-- no blocks but he's been playing well-- just needs to go stronger when he's against a bigger guy.

VC isn't a perfect player, but he is such a luxury coming off the bench.

Sarge needs to learn the Brand mid-range jumper. Dude rebounds like Brand and blocks shots like a champ-- even has some inside game-- just no mid-range to spread the floor a bit

Funny how Roddy always expects to bring the ball up the court but never gets it.
Teams pushing it right now and it works.
