Considering Garnett's production and ability to play center...I'd say more like 2/25.

That would definitely be a test of their philosophy. The assumed idea by the front office, and their players, is that this is likely the last run. Looking at their age and style, they really do need a makeover of sorts. They could just see if they could sign their incumbents for one-year deals but that doesn't change the issue that they're eventually going to have to face.
They had about six years in the 90s where things just were ugly for them before they eventually started making headway. They had another mini-slump and then orchestrated their big three move. To me, Boston is a market that just doesn't stay crappy for very long.
To sum up a muddled post, I don't know what they'll decide to do, but they'll find a way to still be good.

KG is my least favorite personality in the whole NBA. I absolutely cannot stand him, and the thought of him in a Mavs jersey makes me a bit disgusted.
That said, if he plays like he's playing in this series...I'd be okay with it.

That does pose a good question for the board:
Is there ANY player in the league who you despise so much that you would not be okay with them being on the Mavericks. (Odom doesn't count)

I think KG will stay with the celtics, they will probably look for younger FA with allen probably leaving.

Manu.
KG is close to that level, but I could stomach it. Plus, think of how historical it would be to have Dirk and KG play in the same front court.

It would be interesting. They've been compared so much...I'm getting kinda stoked by that idea.

If Odom doesn't count, and Bruce Bowen is still retired, then the only guys that I don't want to see in a Mavs uniform are the untalented and overpaid ones...
KG is probably the biggest douche in the league, but I'd love to see him on this squad... Same with Manu... Or S-Jax... Or David West... Hell, I'd love to see flop-extraordinaire, Dwyane Wade, in a Mavs uniform (and he's my least-favorite player in the league)... Or even that psycho, Metta World Sucker Punch...
Talent is talent.

What would it take to get Nash then? And how could we even afford both without amnestying Haywood?
Nash at 2/20 (I don't really have a clue) and Garnett at 2/25 we'd need 22 million in capspace. We'd end up with 42 million coming off the books in 2014.
Who will be available in the summer of 2014? Will Dirk return on a smaller contract?

Wade would be a bitter pill to swallow. Honestly, I don't know whether I loathe him more or less now that we've won a title. I really would not like to have him on the Mavs ever.
Garnett never real did much against the Mavs. So I really have no problem with him. I will always remember Dirk slaughtering him back when 1st round series were only best of 5. (Dirk averaged 33/16)
Stephen Jackson and Matt Barnes are the same to me. Not good enough for me to completely forget what malcontent idiots they are. Although I did like Tim Thomas which might be a good comparison for them.
JR Smith and David West don't bother me. I was a season ticket holder in New Orleans when CP3, Tyson, West and Peja were good. JR Smith seems more like a athletic, not as talented passing Jason Terry to me. His streakiness bothers me more than his attitude.
All in all. Wade, SJax, and Barnes…. please never be Mavs.

Here's a guarantee: if Wade ever came to the Mavs in his prime, the second it was announced, every single Mavs fan would forget in a heartbeat about anything other than his being a top 5 NBA player.

Umm, no. How about speaking for yourself. I've absolutely sports hated some talented players in the past when they were here. I sure as hell would not make an exception for Wade.

Lebron James.
D-Wade
I absolutely sports hate those two guys. I would probably stop watching Mavericks basketball. I would hope for season ending injuries and/or drug related suspensions for either of those two fools.

I don't dislike LeBron. I more admire the way he plays. I've hated the style of Wade and his always acting like he's hurt. LeBron has had immaturity but not a rotten personality. Plus people hate on him so much it has gotten excessive.

That's your opinion. I don't think it's excessive at all. I think there needs to be even more of it... I think he needs to be booed off the court everywhere he plays. When he heads to the locker room after the game, fans should pull down their pants and piss on him as he walks by.

Wow, are you okay Murph? I've read you for a long time and you usually have strong opinions but that is either funny hyperbole but slightly true or a mostly true sports-hate of LeBron.*
What makes your opinion of him so negative. The decision? The fake coughing? The unclutchness? The giving up on the Cave against Boston 2 years ago?

You'd have to amnesty Haywood which, if Nash AND Garnett want to come here, is a no-brainer IMO.

All of it. It gives you a little insight into who the guy truly is. I'm usually not wrong about this kinda thing. Lebron's a sorry dude. Obviously I truly do not wish for people to piss on him.. that might have been slight hyperbole.
I would rather the Mavs play .500 basketball than win championships with either DWade or Lebron on the team.
To me, you have to draw the line somewhere. Winning isn't everything.

I said "every single Mavs fan." This stance shows you're more into hyperbole and hatred than being a fan. If you'd "rather the Mavs play .500 basketball than win championships" for any reason other than cheating or illegality, that pretty much says it all.

And that doesn't make me a Mavs fan? Did Cuban hire you to determine the definition of what Mavs fan should or should not be? Should or should not think? Let me know.

I'm not gonna sit here and say outright that you're not at Mavs fan. I'm sure you've been rooting for the team a long time.
That said, if you'd put something as petty as "I don't like this guy" over the success of the team at large, I'm not really sure what your priorities are in all this stuff. In the case of Wade or LeBron (versus maybe some of the other guys mentioned here), we're not talking about a player who might make the team arguably better but may not be worth the trouble. We're talking about two guys who are the very best in the league and don't do much wrong other than having certain personality flaws.
Sometimes I think having Dirk has really spoiled some people. Most top athletes aren't so perfectly likable. You're lucky to get one like him ever.

Don't be ridiculous. You don't need to be on Cuban's payroll to question an untenable "fandom" stance.

Even as a fan of a team, you are allowed to draw a line.... Lebron and DWade step over that line for me.

If Nash and Garnett took up all but 3-5 million our available capspace (after amnestying Haywood), what would the team look like? Would West be a fit with Nash is the backcourt? I really hope our team is able to get efficient consistent offense from someone not named Dirk. Wright and West were very efficient in stretches but you couldn't count on it ever night.
C- Garnett, Ian
PF- Dirk, Wright
SF- Marion, Carter
SG- West, Azubuike
PG- Nash, Roddy

Dirk needs to be the oldest guy on the floor next year, if we want to be relevant during the playoffs. Gotta finally learn from SAS how to build a solid team around an aging PF. Watching Dirk hustilng for the ball or attacking the basket (because the rest of our guys are too old to do it) makes me sick. It should not be Dirk's job anymore to do all that stuff.

In my opinion it would be entirely more palatable than keeping the "power dry" with only 1 year deals and giving Dirk no chance at another title. I can't stress how much I hated watching our offense this year.
On another note, Kobe, Kidd, Nash, Dirk, KG, Allen are all showing us how long skilled players can last if they don't have a major injury. I'm not a health freak, but I sure do like my basketball players that way. Nash looked 85% of his MVP self. It is quite amazing. I almost feel like KG could play another 4 years. He really did hit the genetic lottery.

I think trying young athletic minimum players is much better than overplaying a hyped up young guy like Landry Fields. With KG and Nash that is the only route we could go.
Another guy that I really like but he'll be overpaid is Brandon Rush. He would be great in the back court next to Nash.
Finding guys who will outperform their contracts is what I think Donnie, Rick and Mark will try to do. (obvious observation)

Pretty sure the direction the team wants to go is younger. The two themes brought up by Rick and Donnie are better and younger.
I personally would okay with reloading with Nash/KG for another shot or two. Go out off the Dirk era with guns blazing.

Cross Kidd off this list, Kidd had microfracture surgery following the 2004 season. In 03-04 was working on bone on bone that season, in and out of the lineup. Got the punctures in the knee that July and returned fully by late December. At the time it wasn't an every day procedure for athletes.

Duncan hates KG, this week's SI:
http://probasketballtalk.nbcsports.c...medium=twitter
Quote:
In fact, Duncan hates Kevin Garnett. Hates him the way liberals hate Sean Hannity. This information comes from very reliable sources, who talk about how KG has made a career of trying to punk Duncan, baiting him and slapping him and whispering really weird smack into his ear. They talk about how funny this is, because the worst thing you can do as an opponent is piss off Duncan. Then, as Malik Rose says, “he f—— destroys you.” Duncan’s lifetime numbers versus Garnett’s teams, by the way: 19.4 points per game, 11.6 boards and a 44–17 record, including the postseason.
Duncan is diplomatic about the topic. Asked if perhaps all those years battling Garnett have softened his feelings for the man, led to a Magic-Larry type of kinship, Duncan leans back on the couch in his hotel room and grins. There is a pause. A longer pause. Finally he says, “Define kinship.”

I don't see why Dirk would see KG differently than Duncan does. I see kinship possibilities between Dirk and Duncan but KG is just Stephen Jackson or Matt Barnes with HOF talent. Still a whole lot of attitude and barking. Easy to despise.
The short list of players I'd least want to see as Mavericks despite their loaded talent does include KG.
Would I live with it? Of course.

Even more of a reason that these guys are expanding my mind about what "prime plus" is for superstars who are skilled. Garnett turns 36 tomorrow and Nash is 38. They both are about 80-90% effective as there MVP years from nearly a decade ago.
Said another way….Durant could have a "prime plus" that keeps him productive till he's 37…. in 2025.
