Exclamation UPDATED: Site NOT Shutting Down

From the Mod Forum a couple weeks ago:

We were hoping it wasn't coming to this, but it looks like all attempts to save the site have come up short -- we'll be shutting down for good at the end of the month...

I'm kind of at a loss for words right now.

Looks like our final GDT will be Sun, Jan 31 vs. Phoenix.

Yeah... I know one thing for sure; I will not be joining Fish's band of idiots.

Right now we're rallying to the D-M Twitter account: @DallasMavsForum

Booooo! Anyone know of another forum to get Mavs news and updates? Where am I supposed to go when I should be working, but need to get my Mavs fix?

Twitter seems to be the preferred choice of all the people who used to post here.... It's probably the primary culprit for traffic slowing down over the years.

All the goddamn forums I use to be a member of are shutting down, for f*cks sake.

It's the END OF AN ERA! I may not post as much as I did previously but I lurk all the time. Definitely gonna miss this place. At least I have this to remember the old site by:

Hehe - I win.

It will be sad to see this forum end.
I had a few personal PM's that were very meaningful to me.
Coming here daily since 2003. Lot of great posters - you know who you are.

Ugh, shitty. Someone should start another forum. I just don't think twitter is a meaningful way to have any sort of serious basketball discussion.

Yeah, I was just going over all the stats for the site... Looks like I'm going to finish with the 5th-most posts:

I can't believe DocBio is still #1, considering he was banned back in 2007... dude1394 could have taken the top spot, but he mostly posts on Fish's site these days.

As far as rep is concerned, I definitely finished #1:

You can't see the actual rep numbers in the above picture, but I topped-out at just over 83k, with L-Dub coming in #2 at almost 71k.

Not sure what everyone else's rep is -- I'd have to go through each profile manually in the Mod tools to find out.

Twitter actually works as a solid GDT, but yeah, it's hard to share any sort of meaningful conversation in 140 characters or less.

Definitely going to miss this place a lot. I haven't been around as much lately, but for awhile there, it was (by far) the most important and used bookmark on my browser.

I hope everybody from here who's not already on Twitter will join us on there. UD, maybe we should get a separate stickied thread going (or move the existing thread from the other subforum) where everybody posts their Twitter handle? Keeping it in this thread is fine, too, but it may be a bit less obvious.

*EDIT* My bad. Just saw that we actually do have a separate stickied thread for rallying to Twitter. Awesome.

Yeah, the RALLY TO TWITTER thread has been stickied to the main forum... Everyone feel free to add their Twitter handles to the list.

This is still a true statement, despite the decline of excellent posters over the years... I just took a look at Fish's site for the first time in a long time to see if it had gotten any better, and long story short: nope.

Actually, the sad thing about the group getting smaller is that it distilled out a lot of the wasted words of mediocre posters. There wasn't that much here. but it was all pretty damned good.

As I no longer live in the DFW area, I no longer have guys at work to talk Mavs with, so the site has filled in that void. Oh well. We'll always have 2011.

It's true. The last truly bad poster was Cadbane, and that was ages ago. Since then, the quality of posting has gone through the roof. Unfortunately, the quality posters aren't showing up much anymore.

Agreed. Hopefully there's a remedy for this. Need another forum.

I will miss this place tremendously. Don't post much but lurk daily.

I suggest lonemavsfan.com as a replacement. I am also interested in donating to keep this place afloat.

This thread is proof that it is time for the end. It was started five hours ago and hasn't even reached page two....and the thread is about how the site is shutting down permanently.

I had some great times on here. I lurked more than I posted, but this place definitely consisted of the best Mavs fans period.

How much could the costs possibly be for the amount of activity the site gets? Seems to me shared hosting could work? Even if the traffic was high, there are multiple ways to monetize.

Could someone send me or share details, because I'm confused as to why someone else couldn't easily take over hosting. I have hosting space myself...

Not to mention, growing user engagement and monetizing web traffic is my profession. http://linkedin.com/in/robmcarpenter

At least I have the most rep with the lowest post total. My PER numbers are off the charts.

You're pretty damn close, but ribosoma owns the record for ridiculous PER (he's the dunking/rebounding/defending off the bench type...)

1) ribosoma: 19,510 rep in 1,189 posts = 16.4
2) G-Man: 20,786 rep in 2,189 posts = 9.4
3) DirkFTW: 45,426 rep in 5,016 posts = 9.0
4) rmacomic: 18,666 rep in 2,244 posts = 8.3

But yes, you are off the charts... I'm far above average at 3.3 (over 3.0 = top tier).

This place is classic. Much better than how MavsMoneyball is as far as discussions. IMO Moneyball hasn't been the same since 2011. Reason why I discuss on here. Well, guess I'm a go see if Mike Fisher's site is still up...

This is going to be a bore cause Brian from the Mavs media updates on here. Once in a while.

Are you talking about Bryan Gutierrez (BGMaverick9)? He slipped off into the night -- got a job working for an OKC Thunder blog a couple months ago (because money).

I'm number 2. Somehow that doesn't sound so good when you say it out loud. But I doo appreciate it.

I get on here way too much. Sad its all going away. And like someone above said, where we live theres NOWHERE to discuss Mavs.

Heck, I talk shit to my 8th grade prealgebra students after a mavs game, and they rib me back if the Mavs lose. Thats how desperate I am lol. Ill even show the class the highlights every once in a while.
