A lot of shows have lost some steam... hopefully there will be some new ones this year that will be plesantly surprising.

Anyone not watching "Mad Men" is really missing something special.

I barely watch any TV at all...but completely stop down once a week for the genius of that show.

On the issue of new shows, I may give Fringe a chance, because of JJ Abrams and Lt. Daniels.

I should say that Lt. Daniels is a Hot...his overall demeanor made him sexy, plus he had/has a nice smile.

I can't say I thought much of him in OZ.

Entourage, Mad Men, the last season of The Shield, Terminator, Dexter, NFL and NCAA football, the end of Big Brother 10, the new HBO series First Blood (that I'll watch for at least the first few episodes)... All of a sudden I've got a heckuva lot to watch on the television...

Hell yeah! I didn't mention Survivor, but the new and improved HD African version is definitely going to be something on my not-so-productive TV-watching schedule ...

I think you'll enjoy Season 2 of the Wire a little more on second watch. At least I did. The first time I was so anxious for them to get back to the streets that I didn't pay much attention to the inner workings of the docks and how it fits in to the whole Baltimore scene. It was still the least interesting season but not by as much as I originally thought.

My wife asked me if I wanted to watch that new show "Fringe" last night, and I told her no, and that if it's any good, someone else would let me know about it.

But I didn't hear a single thing from anyone here or anyone else, so I guess not...

I recorded it, Flaco, (on a last minute recommendation from a friend who saw an early preview of the pilot) but haven't watched it yet.

I did read a TV Guide the other day (yes, they still make TV Guide. I had no idea.), and i may actually give a few of the new shows a chance.

1) Kath and Kim - I had forgotten about this one. The previews actually have made me laugh
2) Fringe - Not entirely sure what it's about...
3) The Mentalist - Sounds like Psych, except not funny
4) Worst Week - Not too sure about this one, but i'll at least watch the first one.
5) Surviving Suburbia - a Sitcom with Bob Saget? I'm there!
6) Testees - On FX, created by Kenny (of Kenny vs. Spenny fame)
7) Clone Wars - Didn't see the animated movie, but i'll record this.

and seriously, all of you need to be watching "it's always sunny in philadelphia" (on FX). Season 3 was just released on DVD, so you can watch the first 3 seasons. The episodes are all self-contained, so you're really not missing anything if you haven't seen the first 3 seasons, though.

I have season 1 in my netflix queue on your recommendation. Been trying time it so that I don't get stuck with it on a weekend. You don't seem to like Family Guy so I'm not certain that our tastes in comedies are aligned .

yeah, i heard it was awful. which is why i didn't see it. Didn't want top spend money on it.

Dirno, i actually really like family guy. I just love to make the manatee joke because i feel south park was dead on with its assessment of family guy. The cutaway jokes have nothing to do with the plot and are so unbelievably random. But I still think the show is funny. Any Brian and Stewie duo scene is instant gold with me.

"it's always sunny in philadelphia" is irreverent as all get out. And it's actually strange in that NOT ONE character is likeable as a person. But it's funny as hell.

I've always said that The Simpsons told a story with jokes and family guy tells jokes with a story.

Both genius...one is just far more narrative.

Ok, review of episode one of Fringe:

First of all, if you give me JJ Abrams, Lt. Daniels and Joe Toye (Band of Brothers) I'm immediately partial.

Secondly, if you give me paranormal mystery/thriller that's done even halfway decent, I'm probably in for at least a little while.

So..I'm in. I thought the first thirty minutes were kind of rough, lots of really heavy handed "I'm a super tough FBI agent" type dialogue.

But beyond that, I enjoyed it. There are a lot of Lost elements, the music ramp-up as they cut to commerical, as well as a mystery corporation that we already saw some a type of short commerical for at the end of the epsiode. But certainly don't expect Lost quality. And certainly not the grand scale of the Lost pilot. That may never be topped.

My only real fear at this point is getting into it only to see it not catch on at all and not have a full run.

I would say, for sure, don't even bother if you're not into sci-fi, because in the first episode it's already dealing with completely ridiculous concepts.

On a side note, this restores my faith in Ed Bark a little bit. I like to read his blog, and I tend to try a lot of stuff he recommends. Well he gave True Blood an A, and really gushed about it. And I'm here to tell you, that's the worst hour of television I've watched in a long, LONG time.

But his review of Fringe is why I gave it a try, and I'm happy so far.

Alright....I'm 'acquiring' it now.

I will give it a chance....I just don't know how many more shows I can watch with all the sporty sports sports I'll be watching sooon.

Alright...well...I agree with you somewhat.

I don't know. I don't know if it's gonna hold up...it's real iffy. The characters are the problem....the main girl and Charlie Conway (yeah, that's right, digging deep on that one)...I don't know about them. I like Denethor, and Lance Reddick is always good.

In this age of television, I need serialization. I need a heavy mythology, I need episodes that run into each other and are part of one story. It's just the way tv is now. LOST, Heroes, 24, BSG...all my favorite shows are like that now. I heard Chuck is going to be more serialized this season as well. It's just the way to go these days.

They showed us a little bit of background...well...they showed us that there is a background, that a bigger story exists, which is nice, but I still feel like these will be largely episodic in nature, with a different...weird ass thing coming to light each week.

We'll see... I'll give them a couple of more tries.

If it's episodic then I'm out. I hadn't really thought about that.

could be more like X-Files. Episodic, with a faint undertone of serialization with a theme that runs throughout the entire show... but this won't last as long as the X-Files.

I think I would need more than a faint undertone of serialization to stick with it.

We'll see.

Okay.... I watched the first 2 episodes of True Blood. I found something very odd though.... and if the Hispanic guy at the Bar turns out to be a Werewolf then what I found will be completely confirmed.... that Alan Ball is a reader of the Twilight series.

I've heard from 3 or 4 different people that it was terrrrible.

The Hard Line's endorsement of it the other day seemed to confirm this

I usually won't judge a show based solely on the pilot, but I have a hard time imagining myself watching another minute of True Blood.

Fringe....I was pleased to see that the overal mystery played more than just a bit role in episode two. Overall though, the episode wasn't real great.

It has potential.. I like the way they're going with the freaky fringe science.. I thought it was going to be alien related from what I had heard...
