Just heard that pops will get sanctioned by Stern for not playing his top 4. Heh...This is after the spurs had a 4 game in 5 nights (all on the road) and 6 of last 9 on the road.

Hope pop gives Stern the big finger.

Would laugh so hard. Its a joke because the Heat rested the Big3 last year against Boston. National TV. Stars get rested before the playoffs all the time. Even if the opponent still battles for the playoffs etc.

I think this is more a credit to Pop than a slight against the Mavs or RC, but I agree with the sentiment. It would be really nice.

The most impressive thing about Pop, in my eyes, is that his guys on the floor almost always play with total confidence. They may not be super talented, and they may not win (like tonight), but they move themselves and the ball with such incredible purpose. Their offense tonight was more fluid and confident than the Mavs' starting lineup has been for ~80% of this season.

It's always a power issue for Stern. Same reason Cuban got all those fines because it was in his view a struggle for power. Pop sending the stars home has a perception that he can do what he wants, when he wants. Why not just have it where a team has a choice to sit their stars 1-3 games a year, but it can't be a showcased game? There are simple solutions to such quibbles that don't have to involve ridiculous sanctions.

You kind of negated your own comment there. The Spurs never need to have a team full of rentals because they grow their own talent.

I've always admired Pop and his ability to consistently bring in and develop talent. They have such a talented core that they can make only incremental changes in strategy and have a "beginners" guide thats easy to pick up and hard to master.

It also means that they can hand pick guys that aren't the most talented, but guys that fit the system of theirs instead of molding talent to fit their system

Agreed, he wouldn't. But I would be interested in seeing how he handled them. I think he's just fantastic.

Lawl Charlotte. They are so embarrassed by so many seats at the end of games that they offered fans a SECOND ticket if they are still in the arena at the end of the fourth quarter.

The Charlotte Bobcats are in severe trouble with attendance and the only way to get fans into the seat are by giving tickets away; and that's just what they decided to do on Friday night. At the beginning of the 4th quarter the announcer presented the following: If anyone of your Charlotte Bobcats players hit a 3 pointer in the 4th quarter then we will give everyone in the arena a free ticket for Monday nights game vs the Portland Trailblazers. With 9 seconds left to go in a game that was out of reach with the Bobcats about to lose Nick Young [Kemba Walker, actually, with one second on the clock] hit a 3 pointer which lit up the approximately 9 thousand fans in attendance.

Then again, first prize may be seeing one Bobcats game.
Second price may be seeing two.

Dwight Howard at the free throw line. Double ouch. If I were Kobe I would totally not like it. Giving up the ball to the big man, big man gets fouled, big man cannot make free throws. Howard would make a significant higher percentage of his free throw attempts by just shooting a bit higher. Don't they have a shooting coach? It's like Shaq all over again. Unbelievable.

Lakers blew a 17p lead against the Rockets. Hack-a-Dwight until the two min mark and Dwight total 8-16 from the line. Lakers, beer and popcorn are a great mix.

Btw Kobe blew a layup in the last minute and missed the last shot (of course). But i hope he trashes Dwight and his team mates.

When Mike Brown was the coach earlier in the year, The Lakers defense was porous as well. The team is just put together poorly.

Stern was quick to point out that the league has instituted a rule that successfully stopped the tactic in the last two minutes of games: Foul a player away from the ball, and after the the free throw, the fouled team gets the ball back. The penalty is so steep that the tactical advantage of fouling is gone.
Stern said he wanted to make that rule last all game.
"I would have liked to have seen the rule changed to make the last-two-minute rule the whole rule," he said. "It was getting to a point last year where, [in the] first period, they were just grabbing players. I think that's ludicrous.
"We tried to change it to any time in the game because last year I guess it was everyone was fouling Tiago Splitter early on and the committee didn't want to do it. And so that's just the way it is. It's an issue that won't go away anytime soon, and it puts the purists in an awkward position defending a set-up that prevents actual basketball play.
