If you've been following World Cup tourneys through the noughties, you'll have noticed that criticizing the official tournament ball has turned into something of an unspoken tradition. The latest offender of football purists' stringent standards is the Adidas Jabulani ball, which was introduced especially for World Cup 2010. That wouldn't be notable in itself, but this time it's apparently gotten bad enough for NASA to pipe up and drop some science on the subject. The aerodynamics experts (at least we hope they're experts) of the American space agency have said that the 440-gram ball becomes unpredictable when propelled at over 44mph, resulting in the unnatural swerves and deviations that have been plaguing footballers this year. So there you have it, England, Italy and France: a rock solid excuse to pin your lackadaisical exhibitions of mediocrity this year -- it was the ball's fault.

Wow...I was amazed at how Germany appeared unmotivated and didn't show very much desperation even after they were scored on. Did the team go out the night before and celebrate/partied too much? Very few significant runs, and what appeared (don't know stats) to be low possession time. Spain controlled the midfield and easily cut off many attemps by the Germans to begin running. I've been watching Spain throughout the CUP...I thought that they would have no chance....Wow...
Well, at least we will see a first time World Cup Champion. I like Holland's style a little better and hope they win. They are the NFL's Minnesota Vikings...always so close, but never closing the deal.

@ Mari: No, not unmotivated. the game went exactly the way, i predicted it( for myself ).
Attacking through the midfield with Pedro, who had a very good saison with Barca and Iniesta and Xavi (both Barca) to face Puyol and Piquet (Barca) + Sergio Ramos (Real).
So, they the Germans had to play over the wings, where our boys got stripped, and, of course, del Bosque, knew that.
But, hey. Barca looses 1 or 2 games per season. There is no chance.

I heard something about how the average 3rd place game averages a whole goal higher than the rest of the games or something. Teams basically take it off.
It makes a lot of sense. The four year cycle plus entry-requirements of the tournament leave no consolation prizes. There is no conference or division champion or all-star team. Second place is the first loser.

This spanish team is scary - their tiki-taka passing game is actually a way of defending rather than attacking. You just can't get hold of the ball, and if you try hard, harder, very hard, you get exposed even more. If they have a good day (which they certainly had) they are damned hard to play. Our team looked scared and gassed.

The ref tried really hard and made only very few mistakes. Don't blame the ref Franz, blame the Dutch players for the uglieness of the game.

How did Germany not beat Spain. Of course they play like Barcelona, is it 7 or 8 of their players Catalans? Puyol, Pique, Xavi, Iniesta, Busquets, Pedro.... (I wish Brazilian club teams had money like the Spanish to keep their best players like Spain do. All starting 11 for Spain play in clubs in Spain).

spain probably would have scored earlier if Iniesta could use his left foot. He had 2 great opportunities where he tried to set up his right and the defender closed.
it really is a shame that had Robben done the one thing i DESPISE about soccer (the flopping/diving), netherlands probably would have won. Obvious foul on Puyol, falling down would've gotten the PK. Another reason why soccer needs refs behind the goals (for seeing goals like in the England/Germany game, and for calling penalties in the box).
