In the final game of the day at Rocky Mountain Revue, the Toronto Raptors defeated the Dallas Mavericks 84-80.
Toronto started and ended the first quarter hitting 3-point shots. Jermaine Jackson launched a 30 foot jumper to give the Raptors a 3-0 lead, while Derrick Dial hit the final basket of the period from 26 feet out, to make the score 21-15 at the end of one.
The Raptors made the first four baskets in the second quarter going on a 12-4 run, stretching their lead to 33-19. The Raptors were able to hold the Mavericks to only two shots in the first five minutes of the second quarter. Toronto took a 41-28 lead into the halftime break.
The Mavericks made an 11-0 run late in the third to bring the gap within seven, at 59-52. Rookie, Andy Ellis scored eight points while the veteran, Anthony Miller, scored six of the Mavs 24 third quarter points.
Dallas kept rolling in the fourth behind guard John Celestand's 14 points but couldn't break the deficit. With four minutes left in the game, Celestand hit a 3-point shot to bring the game to within one. With 41.9 seconds left and Dallas again down by one, Anthony Miller missed two free throws to leave the score at 77-76. The Raptors then went on a run to finish off the Mavricks for a final score of 84-80.
The Maverick's John Celestand was the game's high scorer with 18 points. He was followed by Tyrone Ellis with 16, Andy Ellis with 12 and Anthony Miller for 10 points. The Raptors Jermaine Jackson and Jerod Ward both registered 16 points while Michael Bradley and Robert Conley each scored 11.
Toronto has a bye on Monday and will meet the Utah Jazz in the 6:00 game on Tuesday afternoon. Dallas also resumes play on Tuesday when they take on the Phoenix Suns in the 8:00 game at Salt Lake Community College.
