Have you ever contributed anything worthwhile around here? It's a fair question.

Does this offseason seem slower than usual, or is it just me? There's so little to talk about that Allen Iverson's HoF selection has dominated the NBA headlines for the last couple weeks... Normally a story like that would cycle out in a couple days.

Well this year's team might actually be worth watching so it makes waiting more difficult.
I don't think this offseason has been slower than any other. September is always the hardest.

Yeah, my interest in this current squad is definitely making the wait more unbearable... This is probably the most intriguing collection of players we've put together since the championship -- they have a defensive-minded identity baked into them, which is much better than the last few years of searching for a team identity.

And we finally have enough young players that Rick has to play at some point. It will make this team so fun to watch if Seth blossoms and continues nailing those threes.

Yeah, our youth is what really excites me -- we have quite a few guys primed to explode. Even if just a couple of them grow into bigger roles, then this season could be considered a success... It's actually not so terrible rooting for a team that has the bar set lower than "championship or bust."

Day 83 since last game of NBA basketball.
Was looking at my leather boots and could have sworn I saw the black rings of a leather basketball form on them.
Actually read an article from beginning to end about an NBA player I don't even like.
Used the term "full court press" in conversation at the office to see if I could get anybody talking basketball. Failed. Everyone talks of that other sport.
48 more days. 48 days.

Yes its felt way more slower than past years. Im cautiously optimistic, which has been my feeling for the last 4 years. Not sure what is different.
EDIT: Well I am more anxious to get started because I plan on being in Dallas for a home game in December. But I have to wait to see that the big dogs will be healthy before I book my flights, buy tickets. Thats probably what makes this offseason feel slower

Can't wait! I know the projections have us low.... But I think it will be an exciting season. We actually have a shot at having a solid defense. I am hoping that Dirk will handle the rest

I'm looking forward to
1. Dirk breaking 30,000 points
2. Seeing young, hungry players
3. Seeing good defense at the start of the season and hopefully great defense at the end
4. Hard playing playoff series
If Dirk can maintain last year's pace, he'll easily pass Wilt at #5 and be on threshold of Jordan at #4 on all-time points. And Lebron will be right behind him given his current pace as well.

Yeah, it's strange but I see this Mavs squad top-10 in defense. If our centers stay healthy, we may be a really surprisingly good defensive team, which is what Rick always wanted-- even when he tried to stuff the 2001 Mavs run-and-gun team last year into a slow-it-down grind-it-out team despite the obvious problems with personnel.
Offense is going to be another story.

Health still concerns me with this squad. Good news is that when Harris, Williams, and Bogut inevitably miss time, then the young/Mejri guys will have to get minutes.

Speaking of injuries, Fish updated Deron and Harris....
Deron took 3 months off of basketball after his hernia surgery so he'll undoubtedly be out of shape for camp.
Harris has JUST been cleared to run after foot surgery. Said he'll hopefully be up to speed by the second week of camp.
Vegas odds of these two being healthy next season? 1000/1?

Bingo... It's nice that our depth is made up of younger guys for a change -- we can actually build toward the future when our vets get injured instead of wasting valuable playtime on spare parts like Charlie Villanueva.

It will be interesting to see what the FO does mid-season if this team struggles to score (which could easily happen) but we are PO contenders.
Will they be willing to give up some of our promising youth for proven aging vets to address any scoring woes or fill an immediate need which seems to have been the remedy in the past?

getting pumped for this season...
don't know where he got this quote but I love it!
Bobby Karalla @bobbykaralla 19 minutes ago
Dirk said he's impressed by H. Barnes' work ethic: "A guy that puts in the work usually always succeeds." That resonates w/ guy like Dirk.

Dirk also said he's had many players come through and talk about being a gym rat but that in his 18 years he hasnt seen many. Barnes is one of those few
Zing Parsons?

I anticipate the season quite a bit to be honest. After years of hoping and expecting that the Mavs might be able to pull off another 2011 it's the first season I feel a tad more relaxed. GSW is so dominant that a shitty offseason, Dirk's decline and whatnot doesn't even matter. In a way it takes pressure off everyone else but Cleveland. No matter what we would have done, no way would have been able to even remotely compete with them.
Let's play some ball, win some, lose some and hopefully at Game 82 we'll be a better team than at Game 1. Plus I might actually be able to watch more games at night again.
