Nutrition question...
Let's say we have two different items of food. Each has the same amount of calories, fat, and carbs, but food #2 has tons of sugar in it. As far as weight loss goes, would it be harder to lose weight eating food #2, since it has sugar, or are both equal on account of them having the same calories, fat and carbs?? Let me know if I need to explain this better...

RE: Nutrition question...
Sugar is a refined carbohydrate, thus "empty" calories. "Empty" meaning no nutritional payoff.
As far as losing the weight gained either of these foods it would be the same. But given the high amount of sugar, the "good" choice would be the food with less sugar.
When your body burns calories, it will always burn the carbohydrates first. Carbohydrates have 3 calories per gram (on average), so it takes less energy to metabolize. Fat has 9 calories per gram (on average).

RE: Nutrition question...
on a related note, would you say ketchup is a food?
one of my friends said that his favorite food could be ketchup. i disagree, because i don't consider it food, although i even have to admit that it is something you eat, and it is made from tomatos.
basically, are condiments food?
whoops, guess this isn't so related after all.

Well, according to this article, it was once attempted to pass Ketchup off as a vegetable; however, that didnt happen. Ultimately, I think it is not considered an actual food; however, if Kerry makes it into the White House, the failures of Reagen could very well be the successes of the Heinz clan!

Technically, food provides nutrition to the body. Ketchup does have nutritional value (although it is slight - unless you drink a bottle of it). So I would reluctantly say yes.

RE:Nutrition question...
let me add my (unqualified as usual) comment. if losing weight is the objective I would opt for the sugar-free food. I think sugar is addictive and the more you eat the more you want to eat, hampering any efforts to lose weight.

RE: Nutrition question...
good work U2, but I would've just said "sugar=bad"
Ketchup=condiment.
