I?d love to come out of this with Gafford and PJ. I really think PJ is on the verge of being legit but I thought Holmes was a good pick up too so there?s that lol.

I agree. No disagreement there. I guess i thought Kidd would like him too?.if he won?t play Gafford and PJ he needs to go faster then he already should.

Before:
Lively/Powell/DJJ/Holmes
GWill/DJJ/Kleber/Omax/Morris
After:
Lively/Gafford/Powell
Washington/DJJ/Kleber/Omax/Morris
I wouldn't say it was a homerun, but Nico had two strikes and three balls and somehow ended up hitting two doubles.

Giving up the first is tough, but Gafford makes that easier to swallow. Don't really have any holes anymore.

OUT: our FRP
IN: Two SRPs
Wonder if that is what we're trading for Gafford or if OKC is still involved (Hardy for FRP,etc.)

OUT
Richaun Holmes
Grant Williams
Seth Curry
2027 FRP
IN
Gafford
Washington
Two SRPs
The only question is what did it take to get OKC's middle pick (of the three they have this year). Lots of talk of it being a bust of a draft, but it can't just be cash, right?

Sounds like the Mavs woulda used that and the 27 to get both Kuzma and Gafford. Glad they didn't spend two firsts on just one player.

This feels about as close as you can get to a complete Mavs team. Starting 4, starting 5, SOLID backup 5.

One of the things that I love about PJ Washington in Dallas as well?
Mavs now have their first forward that can shoot off the dribble. Last year PJ shot 39.4% on 3s off the dribble #MFFL
|
My only fears with PJ:
1) He falls in love with pullup threes and we have three guys jacking it
2) He continues to suck defensively. His first two seasons he was well above average. Since then, he's given up. Hopefully he can get back the hustle.
3) At 6'7" he's not much bigger than GWill and can be abused by bigger PFs (although how many of those are there?)
What excites me:
1) Luka/Kyrie/Green/PJ can all score on the drive and can all pass and they'll always have Lively or Gafford to catch lobs so bigs don't collapse on the drive without consequence. Strangely lob threats make drives easier.
2) PJ Can put up 40+ pts and isn't as hesitant as GWill.

The last 3/4 we had that shot off the dribble was Harrison Barnes. And he didn't play well with Luka.
But Luka is a different player now. Him learning to play with Green is a sign of Growth.

PJ has several inches more WS and a he'll of a lot more vertical leap than Williams.
Also faster and more athletic.
IF he plays within his role he will be fine.

Grant is around 6"3 if you go back to his college days listing at Tennessee, not sure how he was getting listed at 6'6. He's unathletic and chunky. I dont have a doubt PJ can play better defense than Grant. He can also catch balls near the rim and dunk.
PJ does like the catch and shoot 3, I would expect a 36-37%. Im cautiously optimistic, i think he will do what we thought Grant could do

I have a soft spot for DSJ the same way people have one for DFS. Would love it if we could get him.

Why did Detroit hang onto him for so long? He's been awful ever since they drafted him.

I think they tried to get something for him he?s not that far removed from coming into the league. They started him last night I guess to showcase him and no one bit. Looked ok too. Sasser already passed him up he looks like a nice find.

DSj is honesty perfect here.
Elite defense on guards, which is something we struggle with. Rebounds well for his size and more than anything always brings energy which is something we?ve lacked. He doesn?t score that well but if he?s playing next to Luka, all he needs to do is contain the opposing guard and make teams pay for doubles/cheats

How we feeling with guards?
With Exum healthy and Green coming on strong (17-6-3 on 56/50/100 in February) do we need a guard? Will Exum ever be healthy again, though?

ThJ and Hardy are ok backups for now. Exum is icing.
Id love to move Thj and Maxi for a guard/wing who can do more thanj Thj. Bruce Brown woukd be cool.

I'd trade Hardy for Smith jr if I knew he could stay healthy, but he always seems to get hurt.
