Gooden, Smith, Swift
All of these guys are available now and there is talk that Smith is going back to the Cavs and that Gooden is leaning toward the Spurs. IMO that would improve the Spurs a lot because for the first time they would have a good back up PF that can score well.
Any thoughts????
...would the Mavs have any interest in any of these guys??? I would like to see if we could get Gooden in here, but I dont see how we will have the minutes for everyone.

I would pick up any vet that just got bought out, then release Green/Stack/George

With the emergence of Singleton and the consistent play of Bass, I just don't think there's room for any of these guys. They're too similar to what we already have.
Gooden would be a good player for the Spurs though.

Wrong wrong, wrong wrong.......... wrong wrong wrong wrong! You're wrong, you're wrong, you're wrong!
Stack has been in every offseason trade talk as our main bargaining chip, and you're saying we should release him? And green? How about Shawne Williams?

These guys are 6' 8" and 6' 6" respectively and are undersized even at the PF position. Gooden is a true 6' 10" guy who we can use at the center position. He also can play in the low post. It would be great if the mavs signed.

It sounds like the Spurs are the favorites according to various articles. He's not the brightest tool but he's 6'10, loves rebounding, and has a legit low post game. Pair him next to Duncan and you could mask his defense. Or when Duncan's out of the game they'd still have someone in the post as a threat.
Not fair if he goes there. I don't necessarily think he puts them right over the top but I think he definitely helps even the playing field.

I agree. You can never have enough bigs. And even if Gooden is just sitting on the bench you're keeping him away from the Spurs. Get out your checkbook Cubes and pay the man. BTW, waive Williams.

Gooden-To-Spurs Nearly A Done Deal?
The Spurs aren't saying anything on record about free agent Drew Gooden, but many around the league believe that he'll definitely join the team as soon as he clears waivers.
San Antonio coach Gregg Popovich has only acknowledged that the team is approaching the waiver wire "professionally."
In addition to Gooden, veterans Joe Smith and Stromile Swift received buyouts from their respective teams on Sunday night.
"We've got to do our work, just like everybody else," Popovich said. "So when there's a trade deadline, or waiver wires, we pay attention to it, like any other team would, because you're always trying to upgrade your team if you think you can."
Do you think the Mavs FO thinks this way???

Looks like Swift will join the Suns tomorrow night in Miami.
Some realiable posters on spurstalk said this morning that Gooden was already on his way to SA and his deal should be done by Thursday.

I think that Mavs wouldn't have any interest in these guys because Smith is practically a Cavs, Gooden couldn't help them to improve their conference position and Swift isn't a good player, maybe.

Gooden will join the Spurs later this week after reaching an agreement with the team.

What could we have offered Gooden that the Spurs couldn't? A puppet show by Mark Cuban?

Yea San Antonio is a perfect fit for Gooden. Pop likes to sit his starters so this move will definately allow them to sit Duncan some nights and limit his minutes. Or the games where Bonner isn't shooting from the field. I like Swift to the Suns too. They just need big athletes. Not sure what it does for the Suns but its a move they needed. As far as Smith to the Cavs it can't hurt. Cavs get deeper. I remember when that team was pitiful and only had Lebron. Whoever is making moves for them has somehow managed to add Mo Williams, Delonte West, Ben Wallace and Joe Smith without giving up anything significant other than Larry Hughes.
