So do short, snarky comments from someone who lacks both comprehension and perspective (EDIT: within the context of this debate).

So because disagrees with your subjective assessment of a TV show, they thus lack comprehension and perspective?

No - you'll notice that a similar assessment was not passed on jthig. Pourquoi? Because he made a valid argument, though one that played counterpoint to my own point of view. Nothing fundamentally wrong with that, if anything I highly encourage it. That's what this board is for - people having a slow day at work talking sh*t to one another. You my friend, on the other hand, contributed this:

Such an insightful comment deserved an equally insightful retort. You give a dollar, you get four quarters back. Well, in your case you give a nickel, you get five pennies back.

Back OT.

"Love crimes of Kabul" by HBO documentaries.

It really puts it in perspective, how some parts of the world simply have not caught up with the times, nor have any desire in doing so. More eye-opening than anything was how the prisoners' own peers view their punishment, and how they think some of it is worthy. Insane.

Found this to be a good read, though I have serious doubts about the movie itself:

And in keeping with the thread topic...recently watched Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid on a flight. What struck me during the movie was how hokey it seemed for extended periods of time (the musical numbers are just comically bad). At times I caught myself thinking, "if this film came out today, it probably wouldn't do well critically." I was devouring crow voraciously by the end of the film. Paul Newman and Robert Redford (Brad Pitt is a spitting image of a young Redford) do as good a job as possible turning two bank robbers into sympathetic characters. Recommend it to anyone who's a fan of the Western genre or any movie fan really...just keep in mind it starts off a little slow so be patient.

I got the "Cowboys & Aliens" graphic novel from the library. Cool idea, and started out great comparing aliens invading earth with settlers moving west into Native American land.

But quickly went downhill. Shitty story and even shittier artwork.

I've been a little more emotional and a little more sentimental since the passing of my dad and brother...just know that when I mention what was spinning in my dvd player last night..

Pay It Forward.

Butch Cassidy is a classic. Love the old school westerns. "A Fistful of Dollars", "Unforgiven", "The Good, The Bad, and the Ugly", and "High Plains Drifter" are probably my favorites.

Saw "Insidious" last night. First 1/2 to 2/3rds was really really good. Like, one of the best horror movies of that genre I've ever seen. Really fell apart in the third act. Just became goofy and nonsensical. Still, good horror movie for the genre.

I liked it, but I did notice a distinct change in, lets say, attitude towards the end of the movie, but I kind of welcomed it. I thought it was an interesting change of pace, though I can see how one would rather the movie stay the course.

I'm watching Iron Man for the first time... Uh, this is supposed to be good? I've seen a little more than the first half. It has been very, very mediocre up to this point.. one of the worst comic book movies ever half way through.

Oh, you're gonna hate the ending.

Recently on a WWII cinema kick.

A Bridge Too Far

Thought this was a good, not great movie, especially given the incredible ensemble cast - Olivier, Caine, Connery, Hackman, Hopkins, Redford, Caan, Gould. The issue with ensemble casts is inevitably you get the feeling that some of the guys are just there to collect a check. Though the movie was a little repetitive at times (plenty of footage of guys parachuting out of airplanes), I thought the interspersed reminders of humanity in the hell of war were well done - when the young infantryman made his doomed sprint to collect a ration drop that turned out to be hats, when Caan drove a jeep through a German unit then pulled a gun on a doctor to save his friend's life, Hackman's awful awful Polish accent that came across more as an Irish brogue. Enjoyed it, would recommend it, not an epic though.

Hell In The Pacific

Hell In The Pacific, on the other hand, is a movie that's right up my alley. The plot seems like it's out of a Twilight Zone episode. Two dudes - one American, one Japanese, stranded in the middle of the Pacific in the middle of WWII. Neither speaks the other's language. I thought it was a risky, but winning decision to not include subtitles for the Japanese parts, it helps punctuate for the viewer what it means to survive without being able to communicate. Their language barrier becomes a constant reminder throughout the film that no matter how close the two become - a wall remains between them, something that comes into play at the end. Predictably, I didn't like the ambiguity at the conclusion of the film (I guess I like closure), but nonetheless would highly recommend it. Great film.

I take it you've never seen Elektra, Super Mario Brothers, the first Hulk, Fantastic Four, Fantastic Four 2, Batman & Robin (Schumaker), etc?

That is VERY VERY cool that she was there to accept the "award".

blaming her manager for not reading the script (even as a joke) went a little far, though. You'd think she would read the script herself.

God, I forgot about "Catwoman"...that POS doesn't even count. Sharon Stone was the villain in that, wasn't she?

I don't see how you could hate "Iron Man". I liked it a lot, but I could see how someone might not love it (despite stellar reviews). But to call it one of the worst comic adaptations?

Anyway...I just got "Black Death" from Netflix, looking forward to some Sean Bean.

As I said, I didn't finish it. I still haven't finished it, but it did finally start to improve above the level of mediocrity that I was forced to watch the first hour or so.

The Fighter...very solid movie.

I'd be really gay for Marky Mark and Christian Bale if I was gay.

The Fighter should have taken best picture this year.

The Fighter was okay. I could not stand their mother at all, and her hoard of toadies always gathering around her kitchen/living room.

The Fighter was quite good, but I still liked Black Swan, The Social Network, Butiful, and Inception better.

Saw Horrible Bosses last weekend. It was hilarious, especially watching it with co-workers. I thought the sub plot with Jennifer Aniston (I don't see what is so attractive about her) became a bit too much, but the ending made up for it. Colin Farrell turned out to be pretty funny along with Kevin Spacey. I'd highly recommend seeing it with friends who really do have shitty bosses.. because after seeing that movie, one can dream

Just saw xmen at buck theatre, surprisingly good. Even the wife liked it.
