They just said on 105.3 that Rick and Luka weren't at the summer league game because they flew to Slovenia to meet and hang out with Lukas family. Good to see they are trying to build a relationship. Pretty sure Rick did something similar with DSJ last year. I'm not sure if this is common for coaches to hang out with their top draft picks?

Rick also went to germany in 2008 to meet with Dirk after he signed in Dallas.

Skin interviews Doncic, doesn't ask any stupid pop culture-based questions (although he does seem rather interested in whether or not Luka's mom is coming to Dallas): https://twitter.com/FOXSportsSW/stat...59320534970368

Just to keep this hype train on track... Kevin Pelton of ESPN (prob my fav basketball analyst after Zach Lowe) said the summer league performances by the top picks affirmed for him that Doncic was the best player in the draft by a mile.

Do you have a link to the podcast or did he say it on the radio?

Nevermind, found it...
Pelton: Without even playing a game, Doncic solidified his position as the best prospect in the 2018 draft in my opinion. Ayton was as physically dominant as anticipated and would have performed far better had his teammates been better equipped to set him up. Yet Ayton's performance reinforced my concerns about how much impact he'll make defensively, which goes double for Bagley, who shot 33.3 percent between Vegas and the California Classic. And while I wouldn't overreact to Trae Young's poor shooting early in summer play, I feel even more strongly that I wouldn't have passed on Doncic for any of those three players.

We might be getting pics of Rick and Luka soon - there were a couple of pics last year of DSJ and coach visiting his hometown and family.

Even ignoring his hectic last two years, it doesn't do anything to play Luka in the summer league, it's like making a chess grandmaster sit down and play checkers. Just doesn't make any sense.

As the article talked about - its all about the number of wins the Mavs have. If we are roughly 500 and he's having a good year stats wise then I think he will win

So much pressure. If dude doesn’t come in and have 15-20 pts in game one people will talk about him as a failure

IMO Wendell Carter will take the award. He is plugging in to an established young group with a stretch four that will give him a lot of space to work.
Ayton has a lot going on around him in terms of establishing a dynamic with Booker and incorporating all their new guys.
Bagley doesn’t have enough spacing around him in Sacramento to make a significant impact.
Doncic will progressively get better but will struggle with his shot at times. This first year he’ll be a much better passer than scorer.
Knox is too raw. Sexton is the only perimeter player you have to defend in Cleveland. Trae Young is going to get cooked on defense.

@bobbykaralla: Luka Doncic has played 208 professional games since the beginning of the 2015-16 season. That's more than a lot of NBA players. He's definitely going to learn, adjust, face challenges, grow, etc. but it's going to be weird to watch such an experienced rookie.

I think people should absolutely temper expectations. I've been one of his biggest skeptics, and it's still going to take time for him to be what people think he'll be right off the bat.
That said, he most certainly looks like a euro version of James Harden in so many aspects that it's kinda scary. Add 3 inches to that and we're likely in for a treat.
We just have to hope that the talent will make up for the lack of quickness and athleticism. I think so since the talent is pretty yuge.

Luka is a very good athlete, actually, you will be surprised DWS. He has elite level coordination and good lateral speed, it's just that he is not vertically explosive, but since he has a surprisingly big reach for a Euro guard, even that won't be much of a problem. The second half of the season he was slower than he usually is, he was very tired in 2018 because he played basically non-stop in the last 2 years. I expect him to be much "springier" this fall.

I saw some vid clips a while back before we drafted him that showed some of his better defensive plays. Obviously the foot work is sub-par but he has decent hands defensively similar to Kidd and Dirk. Seems to have pretty strong hands which isn't so surprising and seemed to get his hands on a lot of passes...probably great anticipation skills.
Certainly won't be an elite defender but I don't think he will be a defensive liability that some seem to think he will be.

Nice 5 year plan. We better be hearing some Jennifer Aniston news so that we know he's on track.

Is it news that Jennifer Aniston is 7 years older than Luka’s mom? Someone needs to tell this kid that Friends aired back before he was born...

And? Ashton Kutcher was married to Demi Moore. They got married when he was 27, and she was 43. Heck, I think my aunt and uncle were 24 years apart. My aunt is the same age as my uncle's oldest from his first marriage. Also she's currently separated. The kid's got a shot!

Overseas players dish on playing against Mavs rookie Luka Doncic: 'It's similar to Manu Ginobili'

"I doubt 99 percent of this year's draft class could do what he did in the EuroLeague this season," Jackson said. "I think he is super talented, man. The sky's the limit for the kid. To do what he's done this entire year on the EuroLeague level is big time."

I think it's the dominance what's being compared here. Ginobili became a Euroleague champion, Finals MVP, and was the leading scorer in the Finals in the 2001 Euroleague season. He also became the Italian league MVP that year. Super dominant performance. But he was like 23 years old back then.

I am not sure what Murphy is referring to but a comparison to Ginobili is more that height praise. I think because he has gotten older and his role has diminished its easy to forget how good he actually was and at times unstoppable.

He topped out as a 20ppg scorer in his peak, but I think on a weaker team he could have even averaged 25-27 points. Fantastic scorer.

Pretty amazing he did that in just a month. Just shows what you can do physically when you put your mind to it.

We did a podcast with Marvin Williams (English talk starts at around 2:40) and he talked a little bit about Luka towards the end.

Murphy is referring to Donnie’s (Little Whistle) comment about what position “if any” can Luka guard.
