Just a few things I heard on the radio or saw on TV today
From SportsCenter, the Mavs have won 14 of the last 15 games against teams that are more than 5 games over .500.... Let that sink in for a second..
Dirk's one of the best in the NBA at crunch time when it comes to assist to TO ratio at 7 to 1. (I'm not sure how crunch time was defined by the USA Today...I know it was in close games in the final two minutes..not sure how close though)...
Dirk is also one of the best rebounders in the league in the clutch.... Terry is one of the best three point shooters in the clutch.

As we know the Mavs are one of the best teams in the clutch. What other team so consistently kicks ass in the fourth quarter. How many times have we blazed back from a deficit this year?

I was only half awake at the time - but I think Ben and Skin said the Mavs are 8-9 when falling down by double digits.

They defined clutch time as when the teams were within 5 points of each other at the 2-minute mark.

The clutch stats are nice...but the thing that blows you away is the Mavs record in the last 15 games against teams that are more than 5 games above .500... That's much more impressive than any individual numbers that you could post.

That's quite impressive, they have been whooping the good teams in the NBA like nothing. I have said this before, though, about 4th quarter execution. No matter how many points the Mavs are down by, they're NEVER out of the game. There's a confidence about the players on this team that shows even when they're down, like last night against the Grizzlies. I can honestly say I was sure the Mavs would win that game, and the Grizzlies opening up a big margin in the first half did nothing to make me doubt it. The only game I knew we were going to lose once they started playing was the Memphis game earlier in the season, due to the body language of the team. All other losses I feel the team was right there.

Hopefully when it comes playoff time, we won't be involved in clutch situations. And our offense is executing so we don't have to rely on our defense so heavily in the 4th quater.

Cooperstein had an interesting stat in his recap of last night's game:
Quote:
Over the last 30 games, the Mavericks have held their opponents in the fourth quarter to under 20 points and somewhere around 35 percent shooting.
|
THAT is impressive. The Mavs are locking people down in the fourth quarter.

It's funny, because most fans around the league still actually believe this. I remember reading around on spursreport the other day and some guy kept referring to the Mavs as "_allas"
I was tempted to sign up and try to set them straight, but if I did that I'd be no better than the dumbasses who come and troll on this board. I decided that it's even sweeter that the Spurs', Pistons' and Suns' fans live blisfully in ignorance for the next month and change. Then it will be that much sweeter to see the looks of shock and despair on their faces when the Mavs destroy their teams.

i don't think that particular poster you were referring to actually believes it. i'm pretty sure its just schtick that he has. he's admitted it as much in some other posts.

Perhaps, but I think it did reflect the mindset of a good number of the people on that board; most them (from what little I read anyway) were writing the Mavs off like everyone else. Really, I read one post where someone suggested that the Mavs don't stand a chance against the Spurs because we have nobody to guard Duncan whereas they can put Bowen on Dirk... I mean, I know Dirk had a lousy game the last time we played the Spurs, but honestly... Bruce Bowen may get under Ray Allen's skin, but Dirk? Not so much.

Held the Raptors to 14 points in the 4th quarter, while scoring 31 points themselves.
