Blair is the bulldozer who's fearless to make contact on anyone. Dirk can have a decent pick and roll guy to work with that's like a wall in setting screens.

The only problem with this is that now he plays for the team that he plays best against.

I'm curious. Is this the first move our new GM made? Or has Blair been thought about before they hired Rosas?

So the Mavericks now have 15 players on their roster?
Jose Calderon
Monta Ellis
Shawn Marion
Dirk Nowitzki
Samuel Dalembert
Devin Harris
Wayne Ellington
Vince Carter
Brandan Wright
DeJuan Blair
Shane Larkin
Gal Mekel
Jae Crowder
Ricky Ledo
Bernard James
I wonder how they'll do. Also I wonder who will be on the IR at the beginning of the season. Prolly Shane Larkin and Ricky Ledo.

Ledo won't even be with the team (IMO). He will be in the D-League. Larkin and/or Mekel will be the ones on IR.

I forget how severe Devin Harris' toe injury is. Should he be available by the beginning of the season?

Harris hasn't signed yet.

Blair can fight with the best Centers. Good finisher at the rim. Big Motor. Good @ Pick&Roll.
No shot at all, but not really needed in that team.
Rotation could look like this
Calderon/(Harris)/Mekel(Larkin)
Ellis/Ellington
Marion/Carter/Crowder
Dirk/Wright
Dalembert/Blair/Wright

I think Mekel starts the year as the back up point guard, depending on Harris's foot.

The Texas Legends usually don't start their preseason until mid-November, so Ledo will likely stay with the Mavs for a few weeks in the regular season (still likely an inactive).
You can still dress 13 players, so there only really needs to be one more who needs to be made inactive.

I've always liked Blair. If you need a rebound, he'll get it for you. A real fighter. His vertical is probably about 1.5 inches so he's not a rim protector, but he's a great position rebounder and wide body.

True. The only time he plays defense is around the buffet table.

I like the signing, but its beginning to look like we are picking up guys who played well against us, but not necessarily as well against the rest of the league. Blair and Ellis have had great games against the Mavs.
I think Pop would have continued to play Blair, but Tiago emerged as a taller, better option.

I suspect that's just a coincidence. Blair and Ellis both: a) play positions of need and possess needed skill sets, b) were arguably (I'd argue, inarguably) the best options available at their respective positions when the Mavs reached agreements with them, and c) are getting paid at a level that is well below what they'd be getting if they always played like they've sometimes played against Dallas, and is at worst (from the Mavs' perspective) consistent with their average level of production.

Looks like it's not a done deal after all:
Quote:
@JaredZwerling Contrary to reports, free agent big man DeJuan Blair hasn't reached deal w/ Mavs. He's still weighing opportunities.

*edit* I see this was covered by the link above (I make it a point not to click links that say "San Antonio" in the domain). Apologies.

Dejuan may be a swell guy but, I'm fine with him not sitting at the end of our bench or taking minutes from a taller, or more athletic guy with more potential. Bruiser or not.

This would be pretty bizarre if he didn't sign here now after him clearly saying Dallas on his twitter account. Oh internet. I wonder if a team snuck in at the last minute with a better offer to muck things up.

Not much difference than Dallas finding an out with Harris once Ellis signed. You look out for number 1.

Except that was because Harris didn't pass his physical, and we're still signing him anyway.

I think the Dallas tweet from Blair might have been more about his visiting Dallas than a confirmation of sorts.

I doubt he would tweet that if he didn't think he was about to sign. Something happened. It may well have been one of those other teams (NO, WAS) offering a second year.

If it does end up derailed, my money is on SA all of a sudden deciding to work with another team on a S&T once they saw that Dallas was in the lead.

Offer a river water purifier, Carlisle's notes from the 2011 Mavs-Heat series, and cash considerations of $1.
