The problem with Open Range is Kevin Costner. He is one of the worst well paid actors today. Still relying on a role he played in Dances with Wolves, he still thinks that he can charm the audience with his deep cognitive acting style. You can only get away with that one or two times before audiences cringe at it. I actually completely disagree about Costner.. I think he's gotten an unjustifiably bad rap because he put out a couple of stinkers (critically) in the 90s like Waterworld and The Postman.. I wouldn't say he's one of the greatest actors of all time but I certainly think he's consistently good in most of his movies (although rarely overwhelming).. I think he was great in Open Range..

Anyone watching? It's so tedious.

BTW, the more I think about, the more I can't believe Children of Men only got 3 nominations. It was easily as good as Babel, I thought...

It was very funny. In no way was it the best movie of the year. It may be the choice de jour though.

This thing would be waaaaay more reasonable if they wouldn't do a 5-min video feature on every single aspect of film every year. Goodness.
