Good luck today Mavs fans...should be a heck of a game.
I know that the Can will be full of energy today. People are certainly fired up. A Nuggets team hasn't generated this much excitement in nearly 15 years.

Some early thoughts before the game:
Transition defense has to be solid. Make or miss, transition defense is big...Denver will want to run.
The bench has to be a factor like it was in Round 1. Parker and Duncan were superb so that helped mask the fact that the bench sucked. They were so good that they held up their end and did stuff in place of the bench. Our bench needs to match the energy and production of the bench of Denver.
Everything seems to say Denver is going to leave Martin on Dirk alone, Dirk has to make them pay one way or another. He can get them in foul trouble, make shots, drive the lane...he just needs to keep Denver working.
If he, or anyone else, gets in the lane they just need to not over-penetrate. That was a problem for Jet specifically in the Spurs series. Denver has a lot of bigs so they're ready to protect the rim, if Dallas gets in the lane too deep they might get stuck with not many options. They just gotta be ready to throw up some floaters or guys need to flash in the passing lanes and be ready.

I feel bad for K Mart today. Dirk is going to light him up. K Mart will need a burn specialist and a proctologist after Dirk is done with him.

I was listening to the radio just now, and Stein thought the Mavs would start Barea. Any word yet on starting lineups?

J.J. Barea will be in the starting lineup when the Mavericks take the floor against Denver later this afternoon.
That decision was Barea's offense or Antoine Wright's defense. By going with Barea, the Mavericks are saying they need his offense to help keep pace in the first game of this series.
Even though he won't start Game 1, don't diminish Wright's importance in this series. He will be the defender the Mavericks use on Carmelo Anthony, J.R. Smith and at times, Chauncey Billups. Don't be surprised if Wright gets a start or two before the series is over.

You can look at that a few different ways:
It's gonna force Carmelo to guard someone now. If it was Wright then he might be able to rest while Jones took Howard. Whoever Jones is guarding is going to have to work their butt off. They also need to make sure Jones doesn't get in their head. He's gonna be like Bowen, pestering and chipping away at you...he's a pest.
Howard gets the first crack at guarding Melo.
Maybe they didn't think JJ would be able to get things done with the 2nd unit...I dunno
Wright will get primary work on JR Smith now
It's a trial and error for Game 1, see if it works and adjust when necessary

I think it's kind of funny that some folks on this board were saying JJB shouldn't even play at all, and now Carlisle is starting him.
We'll see who's right. I have no idea, personally.

Well the Mavs will lose today (IMO). Dan Crawford is reffing. The Mavs have won one playoff game in which Crawford reffed. That was the 50 point game that Dirk dropped on the Suns' pumpkin heads back in 06.

In this series? That's pretty unrealistic if that was the thought of people on here. He might be touch and go...but would that surprise anyone on here? You've gotta use who you can, and he can bring a lot of value to the roster.
The only question I have is he more valuable starting or coming off the bench? We'll start to find out today.

A couple folks said he should get about 10 MPG, which I'm not sure I necessarily agree with, but it's not an unreasonable thought in the least. A few others thought he just shouldn't play.

I think it is well past time to consider JJB some sort of gimmick. The kid is a flat-out legitimate NBA player.

I can see 18-20 minutes for him...I dunno about a lot more than that thought.
Wright needs to get his fair share of minutes too in the shadow role. He just needs to remember what he does well, don't try to play any bigger than you are. Get into the lane when you can and make the right decision, get in the corner and shoot the 3 with confidence...and above everything that was just mentioned, play great defense.

JJ is great and all but he will get destroyed on the defensive end. The Nuggs are all big players. Who is he going to defend?

Danny Crawford is no bueno.
Got to beat the Thugs and him. We're up to it though.

Dirk's already scored 4 points against K-Mart's suffocating defense!

K-Mart clearly owns Dirk. Dirk should just head to the locker room.
