Default FC Dallas 2010 Season Thread...

Hey, just noticed that FC Dallas won!!!

Let the beatdowns begin...

Like it or not, Soccer is a great sport and for this fan, I enjoy being a fan and supporting my local team...

Hopefully someday, the MLS will develop into a Major Professional League that rival the greatest Soccer leagues of the world...until then, I simply enjoy the game at the level it's currently at.

I hate to call attention to this tree falling in the woods, but Paul of StadiumJourney.com is looking for someone to do a review of the FC Dallas experience...I don't know if any of you ever head out there for games (he asked me, since I did the Stars review) but I don't and don't plan to. PM me if you're interested.

Visit Stadium Journey to see what they do there.

It's never too late to jump on the Bandwagon...FC Dallas to play for its first ever Championship this Sunday!!! These guys beat the hated Yankees of the MLS...you know the LA Galaxy who have Donovan and Beckham on the team.

That's right, FC Dallas tapped into the Rangers "Claw & Antlers" Mojo and could be the next team to hoist a League Championship Trophy for the Dallas/Ft. Worth Metroplex!!!

What a year for Dallas sports!!!

Watched the Game Sunday night......Dallas was bad a** that night. LA had no answers even though Buddle, Donovan and of course Beckham were right there all night.

I haven't really been following, but I switched onto the championship game by accident just now.

FC Dallas 1-0 after the first half...

FC Dallas own goal decided the championship?

Someone who was watching explain what happened.

FC Dallas loses 2-1 on a Colorado goal in overtime. Not sure if the stats bear it out, but it looked to me that FC Dallas dominated much of the game despite losing.

The go-ahead goal in the second half of overtime was a desperate kick by a Colorado player that wasn't even headed in the direction of the net, and it ended up deflecting off the side of a FC Dallas player into the goal.

FCD completely dominated about 25-30 minutes of the first half, 40 minutes of the second half and 20-25 minutes of AET, and still lost. That's soccer for ya.

What is FC Dallas? I chose to watch Giants-Eagles instead.

I have to say I was surprised at the poor level of play by these two teams last night. As a big fan of soccer in Europe, let me tell you dear MLS that you have a long way to go, or maybe just give it up.

Officiating was questionable at best last night.

The first Dallas goal was probably the best play of the entire game. Clean. Of course this came after a very questionable series in the box on the other end. Two players locked up, in the box, another comes over to help. Casey - the Colorado player pulls the defender down, then the defender kicks him and trips him.........no call.

The second goal - one by Colorado had a crossing kick in front of the net. Hartman and the Dallas defender crashing into Casey in front all going down -- Casey long toe, played the ball while he was on the ground and tapped it in the net - with all three in a pile in front of the net. Ugly, and illegal in younger leagues as you can't play the ball while on the ground -- but allowed here........the tying goal.

Third goal was an even uglier play where a crossing ball from the left side all the way to the right side out -- which I still don't get why off-sides wasn't called -- went to a new guy. The defender got there and cut him off. He sent the ball between the defenders legs, and then reached around him and pulled himself around -- the defender pushed back so he only could get one foot to the ball -- John was rotating over - Hartman was in position, but his toe flip brought the ball up and as John was coming across, it hit his thigh -- which deflected it away from Hartman and in the net. (typical hockey stuff)

Dallas for the most part dominated the game everywhere except in the physical department. The official kept warning instead of giving yellow cards. Dallas could have easily had 2 reds and at least 5-6 yellows. Colorado wouldn't have enough players to play the game with all the yellows they should have received. Casey should have gotten his second yellow LONG before his goal at 57'. Even obvious stuff like Colorado not trying to move on a free kick and being with 10 yards - but trying to block the free kick at 2 yards -- which has always been a yellow or if flagrant (which it was) a red.......no call.

I don't mind a physical game, but the play last night was shaky at best on both sides. Very little crisp passing. Basically a thugged up ugly hockey game more than a precise passing controlling soccer match.

Ugly game for the most part. Not really good soccer.

Having watched soccer in different parts of the world it was refreshing to see the improved play within the MLS. 5-10 years ago, the MLS was no doubt the worst league in the world in terms of quality of play.

What was nice was seeing good team play with several passes strung together that were actually close in passes as well as one touch passes. Once in a while, you would see the hail mary pass going the distance of the field, but for the most part, the teams kept a good ball control style of play.

It's clear that the league still has a good ways to go before reaching the EPL level, however they are not as far behind as some might like to say. The beauty is that we are seeing a new generation of youth gravitate to the game and this is creating a larger pool of skilled players, which in turn is serving to develop more players by better competition.

That being said, the great play had a damper put on it by the cheap goals given up by FC Dallas and to lose on such cheap goals shows how far the league has to go.

Kudos to Colorado, after all they won the game and that is what you are suppose to do. You don't get points for looking good, just for getting the ball in the net.

Clearly FC Dallas played with better team skill and pretty much dominated the game...but as stated, they lost the game and thus in reality they got owned.

As for the officiating...the MLS needs to decide if they want to have a clean graceful game or a bunch of thugary on the pitch. What you saw in this finals is the result of a "Let them play" mentality, where officials let players bend through the rules. The players played the way the referee let them and thus you saw some very physical play that took away from the grace of the game. It created some ugly moments and ugly play which is what will turn fans away from the MLS.

That being said, this referee was consistent as he allowed both sides to be physical, which in the end favored Colorado.

Again, overall, the MLS Finals was an improvement from previous years...perhaps none of the "Sexy" names, but the quality of play was outstanding for this league and a marked improvement over previous years.

I'm looking forward to the next campaign and more success for FC Dallas and the MLS!!!

Congrats to us local Dallas fans for seeing a Western Conference Champion and an American League Champion...two sports two champions!!! Now let's see if the Stars and the Mavs can make it a clean sweep...or is there another team in the area...oh that's right, TCU FROGS!!!
