Yup... More good news - it has been decided that when Jones returns, it will be as Murray's backup.

Dayyyyum. Check out the big football brain on sike!

I would tend to agree wholeheartedly with him, in principle (and not just because he threatened to "pull a Sandusky" on me if I didn't). Fewer of those first-down runs between the tackles, more of the sweeps and tosses and such. I don't know that the difference is large enough to make the comparison entirely insignificant...but yeah...it's really impressive that Murray has been ripping off the YPC he has lately, given that he is taking all the tough runs, too.

Let's also not lose focus on who the line was for Felix's first 100 rushes vs. the mesh of untalented flesh being thrown in there against opposing front 8s these days. Don't get me wrong, I believe in Free despite his rough year, thing Kosier is underrated overall, and believe that Smith will eventually turn into something special. That said, Smith regularly gets beat inside, Free has been inconsistent as hell and Kosier has been too banged up to do much. The other two positions are beyond weak with horrible, horrible inside push. Sure, they have turned things around over the past 2 weeks, but again, don't forget that Felix had Adams, Columbo, Davis and Gurode to go along with Kosier. That line was MUCH larger and, while they had their own issues, back then they were MUCH better overall than this year's line.

This line has an opportunity to turn into something special with a couple more tweaks, but right now it doesn't hold a candle to the line that Felix started so well with.

You guys are awful dismissive of 7ypc . Different skill set but still pretty impressive. And that doesn't include the kick returns.

I have my doubts that he's still the same player but we can hope. I'd definitely let him return kicks again with Murray in the fold.

True. 7 ypc, over a large enough sample size, is *never* anything to scoff at or reason away. I hope he does come back strong and that the coaches find the best way to employ him. He's an explosive player that I love to watch. And my goodness...if we could sustain threatening play from BOTH backs? Yeah...that would be fun to watch. Not to mention how it should open up the rest of the offense, too. Imagine the Texans with Romo at the helm, Dez playing opposite AJ, and Witten manning the TE. I drool, I drool.

Do you forget that with Felix as starter the cowboys didnt have a run over 15 yards for the first three games?

Yeah, I'm more concerned with Felix's last 100 carries than his first 100...

Well said...

Bottom line, you need a back you can depend on. Not one that gets injured every 2-4 games. Felix = Reggie Bush. Sad to say it, but that is what he is turning into. Obviously, Bush can be dynamic (has played GREAT recently for Miami) but that is what he is. A big play guy with injury concerns that can and will NEVER be a 20+ carry back.

Don't underestimate the effect of Tony Fiametta. Felix's best game (14 carries, 115 yards against) came in, i believe, the only one he played with a true fullback.

Brian Broadus brought up a really good point about Fiametta a few weeks back and since then I've been paying closer attention and have noticed it myself. Because he's not a big hulking fullback he's able to adjust really well on the fly. There was a play in Sunday's game where he was leading Murray on a sweep when a linebacker shot through the gap and threatened to blow up the play in the backfield. Fiametta had the awareness to double back and picked the linebacker, allowing Murray to turn the corner. I think he'll help Felix too.

His game log shows he played in the SF game up through the Buffalo game. Regardless, I guess we will see. I don't doubt that Fiammetta helps, but let's give some credit to the way Murray runs. He looked up to Barry Sanders as a kid and, while I'm not trying to get crazy with comparisons, it shows.

Star in the making.

I wouldn't go anywhere near that far, with Murray. As a one-cut back who can hit the hole and make something happen, he's nice. As an artist, like Sanders? Look out that window...there's a long line of NFL running backs who never sniffed that.

Fiametta is a big player in our running game. He's doing the work that gets the back to the next level. Please, please let him keep it up.

Did you miss my comment about me not trying to get crazy with comparisons? I realize that Chum - just saying that he himself said he idolizes Sanders and he is NOT just a back that can hit a hole. Have you watched this cat? He is very shifty and he has actually embarrassed some guys with his cut backs over the past few weeks.

Well, I guess we're going to see just how much of a role Fiammetta played in Murray's success. Tony is out this week with a strange sickness that has lasted all week. Odd.

Wow. Crappy ass game so far. Hopefully the offense will stop sucking in the second half.

I'd waive Scandrick after that poor excuse for an attempted tackle. Horrible.

...and the penalty there. Certainly wouldn't waive him, but he needs to get an ass chewing and a helluva lot of running as his present for this 4th quarter play.

Shit... Wish he would have just gone ahead and got in. This just means it becomes luck of draw in OT instead of Romo/Bailey having a chance to win it.

I hate playing this god awful team. Despite being horribly, horribly less talented than us, they almost always play us WAY, WAY too close. Just disgusting that we are going to have to get lucky to beat this team given the way they are moving the ball. Really need to win that damn toss.

For the record, I would have Felix back there right now.

This is sickening. Dante Stallworth...

Got lucky with that pass interference call.

Well, they had every chance in the world of controlling their own destiny and sitting pretty at 8-4 and instead if they blow that chance and end up losing to one of the absolute worst teams in football - well, that shows that they are what they are. A .500 team.

6-4 and definitely in position to go 4-2, win our division and make the Playoffs after a very, very close scare. This will hopefully bring this group together and know heading into the next two contests that you can't take horrible teams lightly.

For the record, Romo, despite being very off in the 1st half (missing many open receivers), has played brilliantly overall for numerous games in a row barring a couple of bonehead plays that all QBs have from time to time. It is very nice to see him not doing too much and keeping the ball in the hands of our team.

GO COWBOYS!

Romo now has the vest off and no pain shots before games. Clearly injuries were the main thing holding him back. He has had a coule of "almost" interceptions but nothing like early on. He is the best in the biz at evading defenders IMO.

Yup, because he cracked his ribs and punctured his lung week 1 before he lost his Fing mind against NY... Wait, nope, that was against SF.

Clearly my ass. He fights weekly with his lack of intelligence. He is winning that battle currently and I am super glad and super impressed. But no, injuries are not clearly anything. Remember, his resume is more than just this year regarding bone-head plays.

The big difference for him is that we have been running the ball and the fact that defenses have to account for that now helps him a ton. The offensive line has also been playing much better giving Romo time to throw down field. Those 2 things have done much more for Tony than his ribs healing ever could.

I will add that I completely agree about him evading pressure and making something out of nothing. The guy is super impressive in those situations. The sad thing is that half of his stupid throws come from that situation too. Take the good with the bad I guess.

OK well other than the Jets game, this season it does seem to be injuries. I'm not saying Romo doesn't make stupid decisions, but the guy gets a ridiculous amount of flack for how good he actually is. Could he get three ints in the next game? Sure, but that is how football is. Things change quickly. He's just the type of QB that can play flawlessly for three and a half quarters then blow it. But he didn't blow it today so hoorah!
