Seriously. Even if Murphy could do one goddamned thing well, why is he playing when James has 9-7-2 and has done more In 15 min than Murphy has done in the last three.

Crappy game.
Good game by Sarge, hopefully he gets more minutes from now on, we need that kind of effort to win some games until Dirk comes back.

If Troy Murphy can't make his wide open jumpers, I really think he should not play at all. Doesn't matter what else he's doing (which isn't much).

LOL @ people ragging on this team so hard. This is what happens when you don't have your best offensive player and best defensive player on the floor.
Temper your expectations of this squad until we are full strength and have a little fucking perspective.

It started with 50secs left in the 2nd qtr when they got a 4pt on one possession and it never stopped.
The PG's on this team are really struggling offensively with their shooting. It would be nice if they got some easy shots to take and didn't have to manufacture their own shots every time. One of my biggest peeves about the preseason was that the PF/C sans Dirk aren't known for their passing. So with that, there are no give and go or back door plays (easy layups) or kick out (uncontested shots) for the PG's to come out of their slumps. Driving to the basket isn't always going to work because they are smallish. Both have been blocked going to the basket several times over the last couple of games.

Kaman/Brand and co. are giving the ball up if there is an opportunity, i saw that quite often.
Still, the PG's are a problem right now...

You know god damn well Marion is and I'm not counting his first game back as being "back". You guys can stress and get mad all you want and throw little temper tantrums , I won't be one of those people. I actually get that when you put so many new pieces together it takes time to gel and figure it all out. I actually get that when your best player isn't on the floor it hurts a team A LOT!
We're 5-5 without Dirk did any of you actually expect anything better than 6-4 at this point? Like I said find some perspective, the goal still remains the same make the playoffs and take our chances there.

You should call Rick, because he seems pissed, too. Tell him, it is just 4 straight losses vs. Charlotte and co. No need to panic.

Well, if Rick is really that pissed he wouldn't be playing Murphy.

When Wright and Brand aren't rebounding then Murphy will get minutes. I'm not saying he answered that call by pulling down more rebounds, but Rick will have to try different guys who might. The Wright situation shouldn't confuse anyone. 1 rebound in 11 minutes is simply unacceptable. Now, if you want to argue about Sarge getting those minutes then fine. Otherwise, it seems pretty clear why this happens.

Not really. Wright would be a typical "white stiff" if he were from europe. All he does is shooting wide open midrange jumpshots.
how about ?
- creating his own shot (posting up smaller guys and forcing foul trouble)
- rebounding
- setting screens, picks
- fighting for loose balls
- passing
- stretching the floor
- help defense
- blocking shots (smart and consistent)
Murphy at least tries....

Yeah, because every "white stiff" in the league looks like this.
I'd rather have a one-dimensional Wright over Murphy, who can supposedly rebound and stretch the floor, but doesn't - playing that guy has been a zero-sum gain, at best.

With all due respect you are full of crap on most of those.
Passing?
Wright +1.4
Murphy -1.3
Shot Blocking?
Wright 6.9
Murphy 2.3
Overall Impact on team?
Wright +5.2
Murphy -7.5
PER at PF
Wright 26.3
Murphy 3.6
Net PER at PF
Wright 0.2
Murphy -12.7
PER at C
Wright 21.4
Murphy 0.0
Net PER at C
Wright 8.3
Murphy 0.0
As for 3pt shooting and spacing?
Murph is statistically shooting 19% from three and if you just watch him, his shooting has little impact on defensive spacing. If your argument is that he helps the rest of the team score better by spacing the floor, you are also proven wrong by stats. The team scores at a rate of 8.4pts per 100 possessions WORSE with him in the game (AKA with 7.5% less efficiency)
The only thing Murph does better than Wright is rebound and that is mitigated now that Marion is back as our best rebounder.

Wright is playing like roddy, a wuss. No plae on a team for a wuss unless you have a lot of folks fighting his fights, even then it's terrible. It's a mans game out there and you'd better get some physicality to yourself or you will never be a solid player.

@EricaLubarsky
Solid numbers, but allow me to take them with a grain of salt. Some players look great on paper but somehow it does not translate into wins.
And do not get me wrong, once Dirk comes back Murphy should play 0.00min.

A center has to be able to rebound. Kaman grabs 10, Sarge grabs 7, and Wright grabs 1. I'm less worried about Murphy getting minutes because he won't get those when Dirk returns. But I'm fully behind not playing a guy (Wright) who has no excuse not to rebound better. He can jump as high as anyone on the court. Effort, position, and want-to are not there.

Don't translate to wins? It's hard to have a +5 +/- compared to the other guy that is negative and not help the team "translate some wins". That's what +/- measures.

First 5 games: 108.4 PPG, 41-46 RPG, Wright 24.2 MPG, 4-1
Last 5 games: 92.6 PPG, 43-40 RPG, Wright 12.4 MPG, 1-4
We traded Wright for Murphy, scoring for rebounding and winning for losing - I'm not a basketball genius, but I'm starting to think that grabbing boards isn't nearly as important as scoring points...

The championship team outrebounded their opponent 6 times out of the 21 games in the playoffs.
Just food for thought.

Could be true.
But we should not forget Marion and Collison. Both played great.
